BACKGROUND OF PROJECT
I m Anurag , BE First Year Student Of CSE at Bangalore. I m currently working on an android app of mine and I m looking for some opportunity to work for open source community.
I can design the UI of opens SUSE News/Planet on Android in such a way that it will be highly responsive , fluid and attractive of course. I can also do the coding for the app as I can use Intents,Services,BroadcastReceivers,Handler ,thread,Fragments, etc .
IDEA (DEVELOPER CONSOLE):-
I came up with an idea that this app must have a separate column for the suse developers where they can login with their username and password and post some thread or they can discuss some ideas with other developers on the go as android device is common tool of any developer.
IDEA (COMMON USER LOOKOUT):-
I would also like to add login support for common user of suse. They can login with their own unique username and password synced with their suse pc. After they are logged in they could be able to see all the packages installed in their system, any update available for any package or not .This android app should also show the top, most downloaded package on suse.
IDEA (BRINGING NEW USERS):-
There must be another column that reflects the brightness of suse to a person who haven’t used suse till now. This app will demonstrate the remarkable features of suse who are unknown to suse and it will surely attract them towards suse.
MY WORKS
As I mentioned above I am currently working on my own android app , I would like to show you the glimpse of my app .Since my coding is still going on ,it have some bugs and lacks some function but it is a matter of time I will make it complete.
My app is a FileManager type app which is capable of taking backup of installed apps and can perform some basic file operations like deletion, etc. The whole app of mine is being coded on FragmentActivity And Fragments. My app can run on Android 1.6 to Android 4.1.2. I have also used the external library for my current project.
** For Best results Use android device having screen size 4 inch and resolution 480x800.
I have included my apk link , if you wish you can see my work. http://hotfile.com/links/202179406/ab7d94e/UltimateTasker.apk
BENEFIT
If I get a chance to work with suse community ,definitely I am gonna to be benefited as suse is open source community and they are always ready to share knowledge with others. I will try my best even if it takes the eternity to benefit suse community with my work somehow.About 2 years back I started to work on Ubuntu and then onwards I totally migrated from windows to Linux OS.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
The person should have knowledge about Android API’s,Java,XML. If suse is impressed with my idea of “Developer Console” and “Common User Lookout” , then to implement them in an android app ,suse needs to provide their own API for android or any External Library , that’s what I believe.
WHY ME
i) If I am having a mentor guiding me throughout this course of 3 months I will surely complete this app .
ii) I am great fan of open source terminology and I always wanted to work with them anyhow and I will myself make my app open to all.
iii) Whatever project is proposed by your side ,it is within my limits of coding .
iv) If get a chance to work with you I will gain something and again I future I will come up with more ideas and more programming skills.
LONG TERM PLAN
I am really excited to work on long term basis with suse of any other open source community if I get a chance. After the GSOC 2013 I would like to continue this project own my own for suse until it becomes the ace . Even though if GSOC ends I will continue working on android and if I work on an android app of suse for long term basis I will definitely get the support for your side and will boost my skill as well as I will be able to contribute more.

Hi,
12.3 is out!
For most of the people out there this is "just another Release". For us in the
openSUSE Team it has been an extraordinary one for several reasons.
What we understand as Release is fact formed by two different phases:
* Development phase (integration)
* Release phase
During 12.2, openSUSE Team at SUSE documented and executed the last few
milestones of the Release process[1]. This effort allowed us, together with the
work done in the Development phase done by coolo and the one done by the
formed Release Team (coolo + ismail) and your continuous effort, get a Release
with good acceptance.
Even though 12.3 was a shorter Release, we were better prepared for assuming
the responsibility. we improved and extended the documentation of the Release
process[2], we reinforced the management effort, lead by Ludwig, we introduced
the Hackathons in the process, we introduced the content/communication tasks
earlier in the process and we added a significant amount of effort in designing
and introducing QA as a relevant action of the Release process.
These actions allowed us to improve the engagement with community members in
several areas, increase the impact and the quality of our communication,
include complex features like Secure Boot in the distribution, increase our
efficiency significantly despite we have integrated new members in the team,
improve several new features introduced in 12.2 (translations, social media
campaign) and correct several weak points detected during the previous
release.
In general, from our point of view, we improved as a team and we improved the
Release process. It will take time before this internal improvements have a
clear impact in the quality of the distribution but those of you who are close
to this effort might confirm or not this internal conclusion.
Now that the Release is over, the team goes back to other tasks and the
Release Team focus on factory. As you know Ismail is no longer in the team and
we expect during this year many SUSE employees helping us in the openSUSE
development so we are now studying new approaches to the Release Team. we
expect to have a solution soon so factory goes back to a normal state.
A consequence of our new approach related with QA has been the detection of
several limitations in the main tool we use, openQA. Together with upstream
developers, we are currently dedicating most of team resources to this
tasks[3].
There are some other tasks that we are currently working on (April):
* Event organization: openSUSE Board Meeting, Joint Desktop Meeting, Plasma
Frameworks 5 Sprint. Now that the Release is over, we will also put energy in
openSUSE Conference.
* Travel Support Program Management application[4]: as you know, the
involvement of SUSE in the TSP program committee is now zero, which means that
is the community who now run the program. Our support is focused on the
administrative, financial area. In order to increase the relevance of the
Program, we have detected a need for a tool that allow the TSP, the Board and
SUSE to coordinate better to become more efficient.
* At SUSE, we have been preparing several proposals for the Board that we are
presenting this weekend to better coordinate the following areas:
** Event/Merchandising area
** Infrastructure
** Financial
* SUSE strategy and Action plan in openSUSE. we are currently discussing what
are we going to do in openSUSE the following years as part of the community.
In a few weeks we expect to count with a new artist for the team and, during
summer, a new hacker will join the team. As you know, we are also looking for
a senior KDE developer since Will Stephenson has moved to another department
(thanks Will for your work in openSUSE, see you around).
In order to follow our activity please check our management tool[4]. I think
it kind provide a good overview of the complexity of the Release process.

Dear All,
this week two projects dear to me and I hope a lot of other users and devs got
releases out: kde 4.10.2 and kde telepathy.
both provided in community maintained repos KDE:Release:410 and KDE:Extra.
Unfortunately if some curious, tester or old time user wants to try the
packages he/she will not find them... why? simple.. obs was not really usable.
I see two issues with the situation...
1. Users get frustrated cause they cannot find the latest announced versions...
We fail to capitalise on the wave of interests that usually gets created when
a new version is released.
2. packagers/testers get frustrated... The community did the work for these
packages to be ready on time for the release... just to discover we did not
have enough steam to build the official tar balls. Shall we understand that the
community work is not really important for opensuse?
To make things ever more annoying... my home projects build and published
faster that packages in KDE:Extra... so I can conclude it is simple an issue
of policies and priorities on obs...
Can we have a discussion on this please? Let us try, as a community, to
establish and implement a set of rules on using obs build power in such a way
that gives the community repos some advantage over home and branch projects in
order to make opensuse shine.

Heya,
A while ago we published an article about 'openSUSE for non-geekos' with
tips for those transitioning from other distro's to Green:
https://news.opensuse.org/2013/03/22/opensuse-for-new-geekos/
Again, thanks to all who contributed to it and spread it around!
This was a rather popular article but some people commented to me that
current users are left out a bit. So, how about doing an article with some
'pro' geeko tips?
I'd need tips for that, however. Anyone having ideas can dump them in this
piratepad:
http://piratepad.net/opensuse-for-ubuntu-refugees
Thanks,
Jos
