[opensuse-project] Introducing myself for GSoC 2013. Idea - Discussion System for the Open Build Service

Hello All, I am Shayon Mukherjee. I am an openSUSE member and have been contributing to openSUSE on and off mostly. I started with openSUSE when I was 16 and have been a FOSS and an opeSUSE boy for a long time now. Whether its school, college or a bar I try to spread the word as much as I can. And if I can, I try to contribute some code to openSUSE as well. My recent contributions to openSUSE has been towards the openSUSE summit and conference websites (although they are much better now from what i started :). Feel free to look up the openSUSE github repos. Moving on to GSoC 2013. I am really interested in contributing and hacking on the openSUSE's GSOC 2013 Idea - Discussion System for the Open Build Service. I share the same belief as my mentors, that having a commenting or a feedback system implemented to the roots of OBS will very much help with people working with OBS. Now a little about me- Age - 20 School - California State University Majors - B.S Computer Science Year - Junior (3rd year) Languages and Frameworks I work with but are not limited to - Ruby, Ruby on Rails, MySQL, PostgreSQL ,SQLite, Jquery, JS, Git, HTLM5 and CSS3. Also, I hold the ability and passion to learn new things. Since one of the major requirements of the GSoC idea is Ruby on Rails, thats what I will talk about now. I have been coding for a long time and have moved to Ruby and Ruby on rails recently. I have created custom content management systems from scratch with Rails, have had experience developing real time apps with rails, plus I have helped couple of startups built their MVP with rails as well. One of my recent projects on rails is http://tagport.herokuapp.com. Feel free to check it out, it helps user monitor hashtags from twitter and Instagram under one hood. On a side note, I have had experience working with MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite along side the apps I mentioned as well. As for my work experience goes, I have worked as a student technology assistant at the Learning Technology Center of University of Wisconsin Green Bay (October 2010 - December 2012). I have also interned as a Web Application Developer at the Richard Mauthe Centre, USA. That is all for my introduction if the mentors or anyone else have any questions or queries please feel free to get in touch with me. P.S This is just an introduction. Proposal, comes a little later ;). Cheers! Shayon Mukherjee -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-project+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, email: opensuse-project+owner@opensuse.org
