Hi again, I have checked 11.1 beta 4 release and found that Georgian language is included in boot menu, all fonts are OK, but when i start installation or livecd - it's still english, in KDE4 this language is not included and it's ok, but all opensuse... Only thing I can say is that only RC_LANG is set to ka_GE.UTF8, so all programs all running in english instead of georgian... Can you please check what's wrong? [opensuse-translation] Has anyone managed to download the beta DVD, to have a look at it?

Hi, I'm trying to download the latest beta DVD, so I can have a look at it for real. It's only available as a torrent, not over FTP or HTTP, and moves... well, not at all. Zero progress. Just wondering if anyone else here has managed to get it, or if I should just forget about it (which would make me wonder why it exists at all). Hi there, can anyone explain me what "Invalid Trust Account" means? (pam_windbind.po MID:15) It's right between some account lock and access denied messages, so I guess it has a similar meaning, but since it's the only instance of 'Trust' in the whole file it's not easy to guess... Regards Michael

Hi Karl, (hi List) I tried the latest version of lokalize a few days ago, it has greatly improved and I can really recommend it! (still some finetuning needed, but works stable for me :) ) Amonst other new features lokalize offers a "original diff"-function. This is quite useful since you can see exactly what changed (especially in the long help texts). While this feature works quite well with the po files of the KDE project (not the suse ones), it doesnt work with the openSUSE-po-files :/ KDE seems to put the old(now marked as fuzzy) message in a comment[0], therefore lokalize is able to compare them. Here I've an example (thanks to Martin Schlander): http://websvn.kde.org/trunk/l10n-kde4/de/messages/kdebase/kcmkeys.po?view=m… There's basicly a change of the capitalization of "Scheme", but enough to show what I mean, the old text is marked as #| msgid "foobar". Hi, As you might be aware, we changed the way openSUSE is built from an internally developed toolset to the external build service reachable to everyone. Now that caused some problems with the way we extract the desktop files - and I only noticed after returning from parenty leave. I fixed the underlying problem, but now you will see tons of new strings. But good news is: the desktops will now purely rely on the po files, so we can easily do online updates if you want to polish a string after 11.1. Most of these new strings come with upstream translations already merged in, but I noticed that e.g. gnome-screensaver does not have upstream translations for the screensaver comments. So please check revision 40841 - we're talking about a complete rewrite of the mechanism. [opensuse-translation] Certain things never changes

Translation breakage keeps to be a problem for community translator due to the lack of respect of freezes and of the tendency to include upstream translations in the openSUSE tree. Hanging around in the translation channel, I have just found out that even for 11.1 things didn't change: - Packagekit translations are still there, while the product is upstream. Again, if it is untranslated, it doesn't really matter. OpenSUSE decided to go with it when not ready, and it really seems you are asking the community to make it ready for SLE with this behaviour. - KDE 4 backports and fixes added hundreds of strings after freeze, in the desperate attempt to bring KDE 4 at a usable state, when clearly it is not ready yet, and the planning of 11.1 release doesn't match KDE 4.2 release plan. - YaST fixes, improvements and development added about other 100 strings to translators again. While fixes are welcome, you should really stop changing hundreds of strings when fixing a bug, which is often cosmetic (don't tell me that changing comma positions, or dots or using synonyms is not cosmetic, please). I know I pointed out this issue many times when I was a translator myself, but I consider it a real problem when working in a community. It is a real form of lack of respect for those who invest their spare time in translation work, to see it partly destroyed by the lack of care of developers, who repeatedly misbehaved on this side. If a freeze is decided, it _must_ be respected as strictly as possible. And if you need to fix a plasmoid at the last minute, or to change one hundred of strings in yast, it simply means you planned it wrong, and that functionality _should_not_make_it_ in the distribution. I asked in the past, without seeing any improvement, for a better planning in this field. It is _the_ condition to attract new contributors and to _keep_ them involved. Frustrating people with the current way of doing is not really working, and is demotivating them. Hi, I need to talk ;) I noticed today a problem, that I thought is specific to my current work, but I figured it's a general problem we have since ages and never noticed: We have msgctx "Name(konsolehere.desktop)" msgid "Open Terminal Here" msgstr "" Looks harmless. Problem here: kde3's german has a different translation than kde4's german. And it's not just one example, it's almost everywhere. And I have no idea how to solve the problem - I need to write _one_ translation. Splitting into even more pot files is no solution either as then somewhen later we have to pick - and all we have is "konsolehere.desktop". Anyone a brilliant idea? At least the good news: by now I can sort by package name, so I can define which package should win. But will this be good enough? Hello Everybody, Calling you from 11.0 beta3. Nice beta indeed. I was wondering where were taken the translations from back-ported features from 4.2 in openSUSE's 4.1 for next release (factory). Example: The folder view is not the one from 4.1 but the one from 4.2. Same for auto-hide panel, etc. Does oS takes the translations from the trunk branch from KDE's SVN or is it in one of the lcn po's? If yes which? Because despite having translated the "update-kde4..." po file, a string as "Desktop Folder" in folder view still appears in English in my locale (wa). Thanks in advance for clarifying. [opensuse-translation] Mean bug in desktop-translation files

Hi, Martin Schlander noticed that upstream fixes wouldn't be picked up even though they should have been. Due to this I investigated and noticed a mean script bug that must have slipped in while splitting the desktop po file into several smaller. Now I fixed it and this means you'll see tons of "upstream fixes" that might suprise you. You can review commit 39213 to check, but be warned: you can not fix them yourself - if the translation is really bad you have to get it fixed upstream (or in tough cases file a bugzilla.novell.com to get it patched out of the desktop file). Hi everyone, can someone tell me what the -L means: "A full file list using find from the root of the filesytem. -L, fs-files.txt" The one option I'd imagin is that it stands for an "find / -L" but then, the . before it is incorrect?! Regards Michael

[opensuse-translation] Mysterious syntax errors

Hello list, In zypper.nb.po, the commit command returns syntax errors in two strings, as does indeed kbabel, complaining that msgid and msgtr do not both end with \n. However, as far as I can see, they both end with \n. I have even copied source to target as an experiment, without solving the problem. I have a feeling that I'm missing something obvious here, just wantet to check if there are problems with this file in other languages. Hi! For the translation of the opensuse manuals, there is any .po repository or the process is download the source, translate the .xml files (using xml2po) convert to .xml again (po2xml), create a build service account and package the opensuse manuals in your language to distribute it? If this is the process, is that hard to do something like KDE does?
