After I, and my three team members have invested a lot of time and emotions in
translating 10.2 into Danish I was shocked to find out that no tier-2
translations were included on RC1 dvd5, since they were there in beta2.
If my information is correct, this is what happened. There was no room for
translations on dvd9, noone knows why. Since it was planned to not include
the language addon cd in the box, again noone understands why, this meant no
tier-2 translations in the box. To avoid hurting the feelings of paying
customers the tier-2 translations were removed from dvd5 too.
Maybe I'm too emotional about this, but I'm literally in shock.
This will make things pretty difficult for all non-english, non-german,
non-french, non-spanish, non-czech, non-italian, non-<certain asians> to get
a localized product.
People already complain a lot about the download size of openSUSE.. now they
need a dvd _and_ an addon cd, and people buy a box and they don't get a
localized product.
Furthermore I think this is disrespectful to the volunteer tier-2 language
translators, that noone will use now. Because if the MS-deal and FUD didn't
scare 'em the download size and trouble involved with localzing the stuff
will.
And the solution is simple I think.
Put the damn language add-on CD in the freaking box or _make_ room on the
DVD9. And then put the translations back on the damn DVD5. If necessary raise
the price for the box with €1 or €2.. or make a special box for tier-2
countries that costs €2 more, so only those of us who've made the mistake of
living in small countries will bare the costs, without others having to
suffer.
Martin
PS. How does one instruct zen-updater to use a different language? I have
installed the Danish packages in the Language filter in YaST, but zen-updater
remains English.

Hi,
I just wanted to take a look at the Swedish files, and tried downloading
them from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/noarch/i18n/yast/
This doesn't seem to work, neither via Firefox nor with Total Commander
(has worked before).
Does anyone know what's up?
BR,
Gudmund

Hi,
After I installed openSUSE 10.2 RC1, I saw the problem with kickoff
translation and button size . Because in Khmer some translation string are
cut off, this is maybe the button size are limited. And one more thing is a
shortcut key is assigned with extra consonant for Khmer.
I have searched for the kickoff file in both lcn and yast folder, but not
found.
I would like to know where the file come from? and I want the file for
updating the translation?
Thank you very much for your reply!
Sokhem

On account of bug 220855 I just remerge the yast translation files.
scanner.*.po is affected (4 messages). Translation updates are not
required. It isn't even sure whether I can update the yast2-trans-*
packages once again.

The last three weeks I have been busy updating and translating the pages in
the openSUSE Wiki in the language Dutch. I am willing to keep these pages
up-to-date and to coordinate further translations in the Wiki.
There is already another person that contacted me to help me with this job.
This message is about getting the Dutch openSUSE Wiki (nl.opensuse.org) and
mentioning this on the new frontpage of the openSUSE project. Unnessary to
mention that all required pages are translated and up-to-date and other pages
as well.
In the language Dutch the language is called "Nederlands".
Please be aware that this language is used, apart from in The Netherlands, in
Belgium, Surinam, the Netherlands Antilles and South Africa.

Sorry for such a late answer, we were busy working on openSUSE and GNOME
translations.
Today we have submitted GNOME translations to cvs.gnome.org (targeting
2.16.2).
I know from Andreas that the deadline for submitting openSUSE
translations was Friday, Nov. 17.
Is there any possibility of including these GNOME files in 10.2 final
release? Maybe just a few of them (like evolution, sabayon, gedit,
gnome-volume-manager, gnome-utils, nautilus-cd-burner, orca).
I'm aware this could be a rather hard thing to do, but is it possible at
all?
If not, maybe we could have these files included in some early update to
openSUSE 10.2?
Best regards,
Stanisław Małolepszy

Hi
I was thinking I might translate some software for the opensuse project
to give something back to the best os available.
I've been using Linux since -95, so I consider myself quite experienced,
although my programming skills are mostly down to "Hello, World" in 20
or so languages ;)
Since no team is available for the swedish translations, who did the
translations before?
I just realized 10.2 is in a freeze now :(
Anyway, here it is:
Language: Swedish
Name: Tomas Broström
Novell login: tbrostrom

We finally tracked down why progress bar messages were missing from YaST
dialogs; if possible, please update zypp.*.po.
