[opensuse-translation] SVN Branches in suse-i18n

We are in the process creating branches: https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n/branches/SLE10SP1 For SLE10 SP1 https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n/branches/openSUSE-10_2-Branch For openSUSE 10.2 Thus far, none of these branches is open for check-ins. If you want to fix anything 10.2 related, just use the trunk as during the last months. In case of serious ("critical") issues of which you want to see an online update, create a bugzilla entry as well. Most of the translation iusses are by definition not "critical", so do not be disappointed if we cannot release on official update. [opensuse-translation] Translation Update for SLE10 SP1 and Forthcoming openSUSE 10.3

We (Novell Globalization Services [Dublin]) are working on translation updates and several new translations for SLE10 SP1. We will submit these translations to the SLE10SP1 branch of the forge repository at https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n . For SP1, we cannot accept additional translations done but community members. So I'd like to ask you not to touch the SLE10SP1. When the SP1 translations are done, we want to promote them to the trunk of the SVN and thus they will become available for openSUSE 10.3. This will be a strong push for languages such as Arabian, Catalan, some Indian and South African languages. This also mean that you should save your time now to avoid work duplication. You don't want to translate files such as zypper, rug, or zmd twice. Thus far it is undecided, whether we should just add the new translations the trunk or whether we also want to override existing translations with those done in the SLE10SP1 branch. In update-desktop-files we now use the new enhanced PO file format: #: /opt/kde3/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/zoom.desktop msgctxt "Name(zoom.desktop)" msgid "Setup..." msgstr "" "msgctxt" is an additional field that contains context information. It is read-only, you must not translate it. Just translate the msgid and enter the translation into the msgstr field. Some tools do not understand this format (Emacs/po-mode). [opensuse-translation] OpenSUSE 10.3?

Hello list, I have been "out of circulation" for a while and I have been reading the list backlog. I understand the official 10.3 translation rounds have not started yet. Will someone confirm this? I will be back in business in the beginning of August and hope this will not be too late to do the Norwegian 10.3 translations. I ask this because i checked under some languages, and there are different interpretations. #. [opensuse-translation] Call for Translations

There have been several requests from community members on the mailing lists to join language teams for the languages Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Traditional Chinese. We have now decided to open up the translation process completely and not put any restrictions on it. Therefore I invite you to create language teams for those eight languages mentioned above, join one of the existing teams or start a new language team for a language we currently do not support. If you're interested, please mail on the opensuse-translation mailing list which team you like to create - or join! We currently have 55 languages - and I would like to thank everybody involved with these. It's impressive to see those translations, especially for those languages where I would not directly expect that many openSUSE users! Thanks a lot! Additionally I propose to have during the installation slide show a slide with the following content: openSUSE Localization The openSUSE project is a community project and many individuals are involved in bug fixing, packaging, testing, documentation and also localization. Localization for openSUSE specific software is done by different language teams and the localization portal is reachable under http://i18n.opensuse.org/ . Each translation teams should then add a new sentence to this parargraphwith e.g. in German "Die deutsche Übersetzung wurde durchgeführt von Karl Eichwalder und Andreas Jaeger " (translated back to English: "The German translation has been done by Karl Eichwalder and Andreas Jaeger" - assuming Karl and myself did the work). What do you think about this? Should we add this slide? Should we do it differently? We're a little bit late with this announcement - sorry about that. We will try to stretch every deadline to get localized packages into 10.3 and especially Karl Eichwalder and Stephan Kulow will help you to move this forward!
