Hi!
Somebody knows a .po file editor for windows?
I have some available free time, which I could use to translate, but the
only computer I have on those intervals runs windows. Installing or even
running a linux live is out of the question, forbidden. But I might
install some editor, standalone if possible.
Ideas?

Hi,
"The server uses &TLS." shouldn't have & ← it's not a shortcut in that case.

Hi all,
in about 10 days the last round of translations should start (MS 3) but
at the moment there are essentially no new/fuzzy strings to translate.
Since I do not think that there are no string changes, is it possible to
have updated strings in the repository?
Moreover, is it possible to induce developers to update/regenerate the
POT files? so we are sure that translations are still good.
Best,
Andrea

Hi, fellow listmates.
While working on stats counting script I met a few issues in our SVN
that need to be discussed. This is mostly about lack of maintenance.
Issue 1: Unmaintained languages
At leasts 7 languages are totally unmaintained:
am:Amharic
jv:Javanese
lv:Latvian
my:Burmese
ne:Nepali
sq:Albanian
sw:Swahili
They have ZERO translations for quite a long time. Also I want to
specifically add sr@Latn:Serbian Latn to this list — even though it
has a few lines translated, svn log shows no translators activity
since at least 2006 (only «external maintenance» commits from keichwa,
a_jaeger, cihlarov and myself). Those are the most obvious examples,
but I'm sure there is more.
Issue 2: Lack of translators
It was already mentioned a few days ago, but it gives us a good
example of what's happening: webyast-example-ui.pot was not merged
automagically. The thing is that 48 "teams" still don't have it
merged. This leads me to a conclusion that a number of active teams is
severely lower than a total number of language directories available.
So when the marketing team will look at the toplist and see 60+
languages listed, it is far from true.
What do you think, should we define a way to determine really
«unmaintained» langs and drop such languages? Or at least do something
about them?

ATM, I (again) merge _all_ yast files.
Some days ago, I talked to coolo and coolo explained to me that even in
the openSUSE context translations for all yast could be useful (because
all these yast modules are in the openSUSE:Factory repository). We just
do not ship all the modules on the installation medium and thus we can
and must not package those unneeded translations for the installation
medium.

Hello,
During review of the files of 12.1, I was translating also the SLES
SP1 files using the meld program.
Now that there's SLES SP2, I don't know where the files are so I'll
translate them the same way.
Can someone point me where those files are, please?
Thanks
Stathis

Hi,
I try to commit three files. One has known syntax problems, I haven't

Hi all,
I have just noted a strange thing about translation statistics: the
overall number of strings is not constant between languages.
For instance, German contains 34991 strings, Spanish (and some other)
35001, and Italian (and several others) 34998.
The difference seems to derive from lcn (I have not checked all other
languages): 14783 (de), 14793 (es), 14790 (it); in particular from
snapper (115 for es and it, 108 for de) and zypper (720 for es, 717 for
de and it).
If I "grep -c msgid\ \"" snapper.pot and zypper.pot, I obtain 116 and
718 so the right number of strings is 115 and 717 (since pot file
contains msgid "" in the beginning).
Is it correct this difference in the number of strings? May it be caused
by the source of the statistics (berlios instead of svn.opensuse since
links associated to the single po files lead to berlios)?
Just an aesthetic thing, there are two missing tags, </tbody> and
</table>, at the end of the table that hide the last row in the table
(about zypper).
Best,
Andrea

Hi everyone,
I hope this will not be seen as spam, but I thought some of you might profit
from that offer:
The agency I work for from time to time is currently looking for new
translators, namely for those languages:
- French Canadian
- Romanian
- Slovak
- Czech
- Polish
They usually work in pairs of two, mainly translating from English in your
mother tongue. Their topics usually cover commercial open source products
(websites, manuals, presentations, ...).
Only real requirement beside the fact that you should be able to at least read
English and be able to write your native language in proper grammar is that
you must be able to issue invoices (or else you won't get paid :P).
This probably isn't enough to make a living by itself, but it's certainly some
nice pocket money if you are a student.
Please send further questions and applications directly to eric@bureau-
cornavin.com (no word resumes please :-) )
Hi,
http://i18n.opensuse.org has some bugs / lost features.
If you go to i18n.opensuse.org you can see that if you click on a package name (after you choose a language and a project) you will be redirected to berlios SVN which is no more used.
You just have to replace:
https://svn.berlios.de/wsvn
By:
http://svn.opensuse.org/viewvc
in the link.
Moreover, some features are now missing like the sort to get tables sorted by name, most strings translated, etc. AFAIK, those features was present in previous versions of i18n.opensuse.org. Could it be possible to have them back?
Cheers,
Guillaume
