I just noticed today that the gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.user group is
missing from gmane.org - did the project request the list be removed from
gmane?
Just wondering if it was intentional or if something went wrong somewhere.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi,
As my call to action on opensuse-factory was soooooo well received, let
me add this list too.
This is *your* chance to become famous without being "a programmer".
Greetings, Stephan

Hi,
I need a volunteer to update the slide show texts to somewhat
more fresh - now that the current state was collected for the
announcement, it should be basically prosa. See and grab
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=897929
Greetings, Stephan

Dear openSUSE Developers,
since 1974 researchers and software developers try to ease software
debugging. Over the last years, they created many new tools and
formalized methods. We are interested if these advancements have
reached professional software developers and how they influenced their
approach. To find this out, we are conducting an Online Survey for
Software Developers. From the results we expect new insights into
debugging practice that help us to suggest new directions for future
research. So if you are a software developer or know any software
developers, you can really help us. The survey is, of course, fully
anonymous and will take about 15 minutes to fill out. Feel free to
redistribute this message to anyone who you think might be interested.
The survey can be reached at:
http://www.uni-potsdam.de/skopie-up/index.php/689349
Thank you for your interest,
Benjamin Siegmund

Hi,
as you probably know our initial commitment to support 11.4 within
Evergreen was until July 2014.
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Evergreen
While I was hoping that we can keep 11.4 alive for some time longer this
is currently not possible from what I would call the "core team" which
is Stefan and myself. We are too busy nowadays to be able to scan and
patch every issue we get aware of.
Thanks to you all who contributed to the success of Evergreen/11.4!
The important message is:
openSUSE 11.4 Evergreen is not actively maintained anymore!
So if you can, we recommend to switch to openSUSE 13.1 as soon as
possible which is still planned to be an Evergreen release.
Some more details below:
The repository already got and will most likely get more updates from
package maintainers who care about 11.4 and/or their packages though.
You noticed that with recent releases of patches for the bash and NSS
issues already, BUT this is _no_ guarantee that every security issue
will be fixed.
We will accept contributions from anyone though and I will try to take
care about "my" packages.
Some numbers from 11.4 Evergreen (as far as I was able to get them easily):
Evergreen lifetime: 21 months
11.4 overall lifetime (incl. Evergreen): 41 months / 3 years 5 months
Evergreen lifetime numbers (w/o official maintenance period):
Released update source packages: 804
Unique touched source packages: 177
rough number of patches (based on incident counter): 320
Let me also quote Marcus' numbers from official maintenance lifetime:
Total updates: 723
Security: 416
Recommended: 306
Optional: 1
Thanks,
Wolfgang

Dear all,
today we've had our first IRC meeting regarding the organization of
openSUSE Conference 2015 (in The Hague NL on 1-4th of may 2015)!
Minutes of that meeting can be found here:
http://community.opensuse.org/meetings/opensuse-project/2014/opensuse-proje…
One of our highest priorities at the moment is the creation of artwork
(logo's and website theming) and composing announcements to raise
awareness about the conference.
We hope that we can stand on the shoulders of the Geeko giants and
re-use what has already been used (and worked) in the past and create
what isnt there yet.
So here is some general info and trivia about The Hague and The
Netherlands that might be of use in creating the materials needed:
- Official flag colors NL: Red - White - Blue in horizontal stripes
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Netherlands )
- Official logo of the city of The Hague:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_The_Hague
- Semi official sign for the city of The Hague is the Stork bird
- Colors of The Hague are green (Yay!) and yellow:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Den_Haag#mediaviewer/File:Flag_of_The_Hague.svg
Of course The Netherlands are famous for their:
- cheese
- windmills
- wooden shoes
- the fact that most of our country is well below sea level
- the Delta works
- cows and farming in general
- the best soccer team in the world that has not ever (yet!) been
worldchampion
- throwing awesome conferences
- and more cheese
Hopefully this will provide some inspiration!
Regarding the marketing announcements, i will contact warlordfff
separately and get back on this later.
If we are going at this the wrong way, then please tell us so we can get
up to speed with the openSUSE way of doing things!
Best regards!
Hans de Raad

Hello openSUSE,
I'm happy to share that openSUSE now has its own bugzilla frontend at
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org
No more battling through long lists of Novell and SUSE's products to
find openSUSE when filing bugs, (assuming you leave the default
settings on) this new frontend automatically filters the available
products when filing bug to those relevant for openSUSE
The details of what changed are best covered in Michael's post on the
topic, here: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2014-09/msg00057.html
I recommend any questions on the changes are sent as replies to that thread.
For this mail thread, I have a single request
Can some people please step up and update our wiki to reflect these changes?
The most important page that needs changing is
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Submitting_bug_reports
Any URL reference to bugzilla.novell.com should be replaced with
bugzilla.opensuse.orghttps://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Bug_reporting_FAQ
is another page that needs to be updated to reflect the new changes -
NEEDINFO is no longer a bug STATUS, but a flag, so that changes a
bunch of stuff in the FAQ.
Also, the change that has removed ASSIGNED and replaced it with
'CONFIRMED' and 'IN_PROGRESS' should probably be described
There are also a bunch of old and outdated information on those two
pages - I'd be quite happy for whoever steps up to be brutal and rip
out anything they suspect is invalid or wrong - as long as the core
information about the Bug workflow as described in Michaels recent
email is there, I think that's a good place to start.
Any takers? The wiki is always open for editing, but I figure given
this huge change, we probably should get this important information
fresh and ready, especially as we're preparing the release of 13.2
Regards,
Richard
