Subject: [FOSDEM] Call for participation: lightning talks and stands
Date: Friday 19 September 2014, 20.47:51
From: Wynke Stulemeijer <wynke(a)fosdem.org>
To: FOSDEM <fosdem(a)lists.fosdem.org>
We now invite proposals for lightning talks and stands.
There is still time to submit main track presentations. The deadline for
proposing developer rooms has now passed. Please see our previous call
for participation for more information on submitting main track
proposals.
Lightning talks
Lighting talks are short — 15 minutes — talks on a wide variety of
topics. Anyone who has something interesting to say about an open source
topic can apply. We particularly encourage topics that do not fit in any
of the developer rooms.
Proposals for lightning talks should be submitted using Pentabarf:
https://penta.fosdem.org/submission/FOSDEM15
Please be sure to select "lightning talks" in the "track" field.
Questions or remarks? Contact us at lightningtalks(a)fosdem.org.
Stands
FOSDEM offers open source projects the opportunity to display their work
during the event. At their stand, a project can share information, demo
software, sell merchandise, give away goodies, and so on, and personally
interact with the visitors.
What we offer:
- one 180x80cm table, positioned in one of the buildings with developer
rooms, for the entire duration of the conference. In some cases, a
second table may be possible, if you have a good reason to need two.
- two chairs per table
- one power socket type C/E (if you require adapters or additional
sockets, please bring them yourself)
- fast uplink shared wireless Internet access
Further practical considerations:
- The offer for stands is open to open source projects and communities
- There is no cost or fee for the stands
- The stand should be occupied by at least two people for the duration
of the conference.
Submission details:
Send your request via email to stands(a)fosdem.org. Please include at
least the following information:
- Project name
- Stand description
- Project URLs
- Your name and relation to the project
- Why should FOSDEM accept this proposal?
- Optionally, if requesting two tables, motivation for the second table
Questions or remarks? Contact us at stands(a)fosdem.org.
Key dates:
- 1 October
* deadline for main track proposals
* accepted developer rooms announced
- 20 November
* deadline for stands and lightning talks
- 15 December
* accepted stands and lightning talks announced
Kind regards,
Wynke Stulemeijer.

"ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK " are seeking all professional drivers and all car owners above 20 years old to go about their normal routine as they usually do, only with a big advert for "ROCKSTAR ENERGY DRINK"plastered on there cars.
The ads are typically decals of a mini (logo), also known as "auto wraps," that almost seem to be painted on the vehicle and which will cover any exterior small portion of your car's door surface, It's car wash and sunlight proof, does no harm to bodywork and can be removed at any time without damage, this promotes our professionalism with a perfect touch, so you need not worry about insurance.
What does the company get out of this type of ad strategy?
Lots of exposure and awareness. The auto wraps tend to be colorful beautifully mini wrapped, eye-catching and attract lots of attention. Hi openSUSE folks,
we're going to update the openSUSE bugzilla from ancient version 3.4.3 to
version 4.4.5. We do this mainly for three reasons:
- to get new features and better speed
- to get better customization support
- to get all security holes fixed
The update will happen on September 20th, aka this weekend. From a user
experience, Bugzilla version 4.4.5 is not very different to 3.4.3, but
there are some incompatible changes to watch out for:
* NEEDINFO is no longer a state, but a flag. This has the advantage
that a bug can have multiple needinfos set.
The UI still offers the needinfo checkboxes, so you should not notice
this much.
* Some states got updated to sync with upstream bugzilla:
ASSIGNED has been split into CONFIRMED and IN_PROGRESS. CONFIRMED
means that you acknowlede that there is a bug, IN_PROGRESS means
that you work on the bug.
CLOSED has been merged into VERIFIED.
The standard bug life cycle is thus:
NEW -> CONFIRMED -> IN_PROGRESS -> RESOLVED -> VERIFIED
* Partner IDs are stored as "See Also" URLs. There are shortcuts
to add them, e.g. "FATE-2222" maps to the id in fate. There's
also "CVE-XXXX" to map to the mitre server for the security
inclined.
With the update come per-business unit bugzilla styles and product
filtering, thus navigating to "bugzilla.opensuse.org" will get you
to openSUSE's bugzilla instance in a friendly green look instead
of the old wiki page.
Note that this is just a different skin for the same novell.com
bugzilla, you can even configure it in the bugzilla preferences
section. (In case you're wondering, there's also bugzilla.suse.com,
bugzilla.netiq.com, and bugzilla.novell.com.)
Cheers,
Michael.

Years ago I was running a Bulletin Board System (BBS) which used
software written by a particular (U.S.A.) individual and who was quite
openly proud of the international enterprises which had his system
installed for communications (for example, SIEMENS was using his software).
Occasionally I have the opportunity to try and influence an
organisation/individual to switch from you-know-what to Linux - but
openSUSE in particular, my argument here being that since I am using
openSUSE I can be of more help should assistance be required.
At such times it would be MOST helpful if I - or anyone else in the same
situation for that matter - could do some "name dropping" and mention
that "openSUSE is being used by, for example WWWWWW, XXXXXXX and
YYYYYYY! just to mention a few companies".
Does the Board know which organisations - local or international - use
openSUSE and can this information be made available and be referred to,
or is this information not known or not important enough?

Hey guys. I've filled up the Gnome and Xfce columns, let me know if everything's ok.
Who's intended to proofread & publish the article? So I know what else should be done on my part :)
