Hello folks,
I have updated "zypper" instruction for Cinnamon installation on
openSUSE 13.1 : http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Cinnamon#Zypper
I've also included some screenshots here :

I do not necessarily disagree, but changes to that effect would possibly
require a change to the rules and that is a separate discussion.
Implementing a change to the election guidelines right before the
election is probably difficult and thus may be best addressed after the
current elections have concluded.

Hi,
I'd like to announce that I started to work on bringing openSUSE
Factory to powerpc64 little endian architecture.
This is the real architecture and not compatible with ppc64. I already
sent pull requests to several projects. You can expect more patches,
submit requests, pull requests coming for your project.
Core have already support for that (gdb, gcc, libtool, binutils). Our
build workers are capable to run little endian guests, plus third 7R2
machine is on the way to OBS network. That should help with increased
build number.
Have fun,
Dinar

Aloha fellow Geekos!
I was fortunate enough to have been elected to the Board two years
ago, and as always when you have fun time flies. As such my current
tenure on the Board is due to end this year.
As the openSUSE project is something that I value, believe in and
enjoy I would like to stand for re-election. I will not present my
campaign yet but will do so as of the 18 Nov, but what I will say is
this:
As an existing Board member I believe I can add further to what we
have done over the last two years and help continue the forward growth
of the project. Being on the Board is not all Unicorns and Bunnies,
there are some painful and somewhat ugly things thrown in there which
can be daunting; but as I have experienced them already I feel I am
better prepared to deal with any future gremlins and ultimately better
serve you.
The Board is here to represent you the community and not any corporate
entity, yes I work for ARM Ltd. but ensuring ARM is a well supported
architecture is not why I am running for re-election. I am running for
re-election because I believe that I am one of the right people to
help openSUSE prosper as a project and become a shining example of
what an open project can achieve.
Many thanks for your vote of confidence over the last two years, and I
hope you continue to trust me with your votes in the near future.
Kind regards and thanks for all the fun,
Andy

Hi,
First we would like to thank the Election Committee for getting the
election process rolling and announcing the time schedule. [1]
For those of you considering candidacy for the openSUSE Board we thought
that the following information may be useful to you.
As a member of the board you obviously volunteer your time and we know
you will do the best you can in making a positive contribution. While
the future is unpredictable it would be great if you can take a peek
into the crystal ball and see if you feel comfortable with making a 2
year time commitment. During your time on the board you are expected to
participate in most IRC project meetings and the board calls that take
place every other week (currently scheduled for 1 hour on Mondays.) You
are also expected to participate in a face to face board meeting that
usually takes place in Nuremberg at the SUSE office over a weekend
shortly after the new board is formed and you are expected to
participate in the openSUSE conference (end of April 2014). Last but not
least you need to form opinions about project related things that are
brought to the boards attention and volunteer for board activities.
All of this is doable while working full time, obviously, but it has to
be a priority.
Just some food for thought,
Your openSUSE Board

Hi,
On November 1st, 2013 Richard Brown will start to work for SUSE. This
will create an imbalance of SUSE employed elected board members over non
SUSE employed elected board members. With Will's resignation we
currently have 3 elected board members as opposed to the expected 5
board members. Two of the 3 will be employed by SUSE, thus constituting
a 66% position on the elected board in favor of one company. This does
not meet the guidelines for board composition.
In order to meet the guidelines two additional SUSE employed elected
board members (Richard and Robert) would have to step down leaving the
board with 1 elected member, Andrew. But hen 1 company would hold 100%
of elected positions on the board, also violating the guidelines. Thus,
we do not consider this to be a workable solution. Another option is to
appoint two new members that do not work for SUSE in short order. This
has it's own complication with the ongoing election process.
As we write this, we also realize that we have been violating the 40%
rule for some time. Ever since Raymond decided to step down and his seat
was not filled. The seat was not filled due to concerns regarding
favoritism with respect to closeness to the election. Both concerns are
valid now as well, of course. The past violation of this rule was an
honest mistake and we apologize for the oversight.
With the election pending we propose to continue as a 3 elected member
board, with 2 seats held by SUSE employees (Richard and Robert) and one
seat held by a member not employed by SUSE (Andrew), until the end of
the year. The new board will take the reigns in January and the
percentage rule will once again be upheld.
Collectively we can jump through a number of hoops to move all the
puzzle pieces in the proper location, the "what-if" scenarios could
probably fill multiple pages. However, with the election period upon us,
it is the board's opinion that this is not necessary. The decision
ultimately rests with the community and we will follow the guidance
provided in the discussion of this topic.
Regards,
Your openSUSE Board

The time has come for me to step down as an openSUSE Board member. I
ran for the board on a platform of realistic goals for the Board but
over the last years several factors have reduced my time for the
openSUSE project considerably. First, I became a father for the second
time last September (which while a very happy event, has proved rather
more demanding than anticipated) and second, I left the openSUSE Team in
April this year for an internal team at SUSE without any involvement in
openSUSE. Thirdly, changes in how the openSUSE project is handled by
SUSE shifted many new tasks to the Board. So in the last few months the
time I have to meet my responsibilities to the Board has approached zero.
As a result I would like to tender my resignation to my fellow Board
members so that they can get on with organising the upcoming Board
elections with a clear idea of who will be running.
In closing I would like to thank my colleagues on the board, Vincent
Richard, Robert and Andy for their work in facilitating the project's
smooth running and most importantly in sincerely and determinedly
representing the interests of the independent openSUSE project.
