Hi all,
We are in desperate need for 2 or 3 additional volunteers for the Travel
Support Program.
The Travel Support Program team decides on allocation of funds for those
contributors requesting travel assistance to attend FOSS events, this
includes our own events of course ;)
There is a general process in place, the guidelines are written up and
it is a job of helping to administer the requests, follow up with
requesters and SUSE every now and then to see that things are moving.
Izabel and Kostas are currently the only TSP administrators and
obviously when Kostas disappears to keep Greece from going up in flames
Izabel is alone. This is not the best solution, thus we'd like to add a
couple of additional people to the team.
Please step up, this is an important function to the project and has
helped many people in the past to attend events to represent openSUSE
that they could have otherwise not attended.
If you are interested and want more information about what's going on
your best source of information are Izabel and Kostas.
Please consider stepping up and helping out.
Thanks,
Your openSUSE Board

Heya all,
The release is nearing. If you want to help in the marketing area, be sure to
check out the article about that [1] and help out with our social media plan:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Social_media_launch_plan
The idea behind the social media plan is that we have a list of people
responsible for certain accounts and they send out the messages we prepared on
the wiki page above. If, of course, there is no account for a certain language
it is pointless to translate...
Help is welcome, both in finding who can and will send those messages and in
translation!

I'm pleased to inform our beloved Geeko's community about my intention to run for one seat at the openSUSE Board.
For those who would like to discover a bit more about myself and what I published, I've collected a bunch of links at the bottom.
I would like to engage the green blood inside me to "serve and protect" our great community.
I will have to learn a lot, and hope to be inspired and guided by former and actual board members, in a hope to get the things done.
What can I promise? Well I will do mistakes and success, make people happy and other grumpy. I will manage illusions and frustrations.
What I want? Get our community stronger, increase the raise of our project and associated tools.
How, well, I'm a big dreamer about team cross-collaboration, and the high values we share.
What else? Prepare our product's future.
Paint all people around us in Green (whatever the kind of green it is)
More during phase 1 ...
Rendez-vous after the 17th November.

Hello openSUSE
After some serious thought I decided that I want to run for the board.
My name is Kostas Koudaras (a.k.a. Warlordfff) and I am a man of
action, serving the openSUSE Project for the past 5 years as an
ambassador(among other things)...
I was in the lead of the openSUSE ambassadors for many years and
mentored a lot of ambassadors. Along with Richard Brown we made the
new ambassadors program. I am also part of the Travel Support Program
with Izabel Valverde. I write articles on news and am part of the
openSUSE Marketing team. I am an openSUSE translator for the Greek
language. Along with Stathis Iosifidis we started the Greeks openSUSE
Community and this year I was in charge of organizing (along with
Stella and Henne) the openSUSE Conference 2013 in Thessaloniki.
Over the years I think I have proven that I am a man of action and I
just make things happen. I run because I want to pass this to the
board. I know that community is strong and people just have to realize
that anything is possible around the openSUSE Project.
Beyond all that I am a firefighter and August is always a bit hard
month for me when it comes to time since most of August I am on some
mountain without wifi, nevertheless if I get elected I will find some.
I am also engaged to a wonderfull woman and I have a small hairy dog.
All that said, I ask for your trust and your vote.
Have fun
Kostas 'Warlordfff' Koudaras

I am seeing this with an openSUSE 12.1 system at home, and also a
Factory system at work:
% host download.opensuse.orgdownload.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134
download.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2001:67c:2178:8::13
And then, when running zypper patch or zypper up, I see
Retrieving: repomd.xml [error]
Download (curl) error for
'http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Failed to connect to 2001:67c:2178:8::13: Network is unreachable
Alas, my provider nor that network at work support IPv6. Still, my
system has IPv6 enabled since roaming around on different networks,
IPv6 may be present, or even necessary there.
(This does not happen all the time, sometimes if I retry a bit later
the system uses IPv4 and everything works.)
Now, is this just a setup problem and I should simply and
unconditionally disable IPv6?
Or are some parts of our update or network stack in need of
some adjustments?
For the time being, unless this is just me running into this,
should we disable IPv6 on download.opensuse.org?

Hello folks,
I am Nitin Sookun, also known as Ishwon or Ish, from Mauritius. I work
as an Application Management Engineer at Orange Business Services & I
am openSUSE Advocate since 2010.
During the past years I have evangelized openSUSE by participating in
various Linux Festivals\Seminars & presented the project. Since a few
months I'm also organizing weekly Linux meetups where junior penguins
are popping in. That way we had 5 new advocates from Mauritius & they
are doing a great job promoting openSUSE in their workplace &
university. I've also encouraged them to start their blog & write
about their experiences.
My openSUSE related blog posts can be found here :
http://hacklog.in/category/linux/opensuse-linux/
Well ... That was a quick intro about me & activities in Mauritius.
Being on the board, for me it'll be a chance to liaise with people &
empower the Advocates. The geeko should rise everywhere, on stat
pages, distrowatch, benchmark reports etc ... I have only recently
started liaising with developers & graphic designers locally. As a
board member I'll try to be the listening guy who can channel requests
& ideas to the correct destination, bringing also new people into the
project.
I hereby submit my candidature to be considered :)
Warm regards
Ish Sookun
