[opensuse-project] How we will use the GSoC money

Hi, (let's see how a public discussion about money goes :-)) The Google Summer of Code brings us great students, but also means that the openSUSE project will get $8000 (if I'm not mistaken) at the end of the summer. That's $500 per student. A while ago, I requested comments on my blog about what to do with the money, but didn't get any feedback. So I take this as "do what you feel is best", and this mail is about the plan. As a reminder, the main issue is that we will likely not have the openSUSE Foundation created in time for this. For instance, Google would like us to get some form filled before the end of June; this is not a mandatory timeline, but I think it shows that we won't be ready with the Foundation for that. The current plan is to give that money to another organization we feel close to, and I have two candidates in mind: - the Software Freedom Conservancy (http://sfconservancy.org/) it's a really nice org that provides a home for various cool projects (see http://sfconservancy.org/members/current/) and those projects help make openSUSE a great project. - the Desktop Summit (https://www.desktopsummit.org/) it's one of the biggest event this year, and this would help us have some more visibility (since we'd be sponsors, I guess). I'm sure they would welcome this to secure their budget. Note that an alternative solution would be to leave the money to Google for a future GSoC or similar program, but I feel it's better to use the money where it can make a difference today. Now, it's not too late to change the plan. If you have a better suggestion, please tell us. There's no need to argue forever about it, just explain why you think it's good. Keep in mind that if we cannot receive the money ourselves, this also means that we cannot use it to buy stuff for openSUSE. Pavol and I will take the final decision since we are the GSoC admins for openSUSE. Leap 15.5 retrospective feedback is now seeking action items

Hello openSUSE! I would like to share categorized openSUSE Leap 15.5 retrospective results with all contributors, team leads, and individuals who directly or indirectly contribute to openSUSE Leap! https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:15.5/Retrospective Feel free to review relevant sections for you or your team and see if you could help to address some of the issues. I already started making action items for the obvious ones, however, It would really help me if you'd share any suggestion or ideas. Feel free to link action items to the wiki, such as links to github issues, bugs, progress-o-o, trello, jira, code-o-o feature links. I promise that I'll try to help driving "reasonable ones" to the completion. I already agreed with the review round that Leap 15.6 retrospective will have explicit "written" suggestion in the "what didn't go too well" section to open a bug and reference it in the next. I'm aware that might take away the anonymity aspect of the survey, however, as it is now it's impossible to react to some of the feedback without an effective feedback loop such as discussion in bugzilla. Problem sending message to gmail account

I got a message from a gmail account to my opensuse.org address and tried to send an answer on that message with this opensuse.org address as sender. I configured my email client to send it to my provider, who accepted the message and did send it on to GMail. However GMail refused to accept the message and requires a proper SPL or a proper DKIM signature. A proper SPL would mean that I should not send the message via my provider but via a system that is authorized by SPL to send message with an opensuse.org address as the sender. Most likely a server owned by (open)SUSE. I am working to enable singing certain messages with my own DKIM signature, but I don't know if GMail will accept such a message, because there is no relation between the DKIM signature and my opensuse.org address. Signing the message with a DKIM signature of opensuse.org would mean that I should have the secret key of that signing certificate. Updating dutch wiki

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is th right venue to ask my question. I trust you'll put me in the right direction if needed :-). I'm trying to edit some pages on nl.o.o . however some seem to be locked and have rather outdated information and links. To whom should I turn to get this resolved? I sent an email to the most likely person, who edited the page some six years ago. However I did not get a reply. Any help to get this sorted would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Natasha

OBS & openQA classes for bootstrap.academy

Hi all, In the community meeting on June 15, the topic of creating classes for the Open Build Service and openQA on bootstrap.academy were brought up. I had the action item on line #38 https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/weeklymeeting20230615 to see if bootstrap.academy would be willing to accept any community members efforts to create classes for that platform and be willing to collaborate and work together on content. bootstrap.academy were interested and are willing to provide detailed courses on usage, implementation and configuration. there is also in interest to offer a certificate to show those who take the courses are experts. If you are interested in helping to create content and working with bootstrap.academy to get OBS & openQA courses online, let me know or join the Thursday community meeting. Hello team, I've uploaded ods with a raw dump from LimeSurvey into https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:15.5/Retrospective I would like to start processing the results 1 hour prior (that means 8pm-9pm CEST) to today's weekly community meeting slot. Details at https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/weeklymeeting I expect to continue the next week again on Tuesday, again 1 hour before the weekly meeting at (means 15:30-16:30 CEST). I'll be doing screen sharing on https://meet.opensuse.org/meeting and will be categorizing output from the ods into categories on the previously mentioned wiki page and start to create action items. Everybody is welcome to join and help to create action items, go through the raw data on his own, or simply re-read the page later once the data is categorized.
