Hi,
The openSUSE conference starts next week, but I still could not find any
practical information about it. Here are just a few things I miss:
- address of the conference building ("Dubrovnik University" gives too
many matches in Google...)
- how to reach it by by car, public transport, etc.
- how to get to the city from the airport
- can one use Euro or needs the local currency (if local, where are
ATMs, good exchange rates)
Bye,
CzP

Hello,
this topic affects all openSUSE users. Therefore, I turn directly to the
responsible person of the openSUSE project. I think this is very
important for all those users, who saves bandwidth and time while the
openSUSE installation.
In the past, there was an officially openSUSE Remastered DVD. [1]
Unfortunately this was only the first and the last remastered DVD.
I know that downloaded delta RPMs can a bit smaller as the original RPM
but the creating of an RPM from delta RPM costs many time. Another
example: If there is an update for zypper/libzypp or something relevant
packages for the installer, the YaST installer has to restart itself
after a zypper update. This is not wrong but it also costs time.
Sometimes the openSUSE user has not an internet connection (e.g., WLAN
or a special Ethernet card) but he needs the latest updated kernel from
update repository that fixed several issues like graphics card driver
(e.g., distorted screen) or network driver or something hardware related
issue. Just as an example.
Can we repeat this success story?

Hi All,
thanks for your answers. :)

Thank you very much, I am pleased to see that someone of the Board is
following my little summary of "problems". Actually those are not big
problems that could make not working openSUSE, but small things that
users notice in the every-day use, so they make difference between one
distribution to the others.

Yes, I agree. Actually searching in the wiki is very "difficult"
because by default not all namespaces are enabled in the "Advanced"
panel. For instance [0], why "openSUSE", "SDB", "HCL" are not enabled
by default? However this problem is mitigated by the fact that most
people search through Google and find directly what they are looking
for.
Furthermore, some pages are not so well written. Take a look, for
example, at How to migrate from Windows [1]. That page doesn't explain
how to really migrate, is just a set of old informations about Linux,
openSUSE and OpenSource stuff... I think that it should consist of
simple paragraphs each of them linking to complete articles, something
like:
- Introduction
-- What is FOSS software, underline that "migration" means also change
some habits...
-- Suggestions: always backup all your datas, do scandisks/defrags on Windows...
- Some example of FOSS software for different case of use...
- Pros of Linux over Windows
- Pros of openSUSE over other Linux desktop/server distributions
- oS Edu Li-f-E, Build Service, Zypper, all DE equally supported and so on...
That's just a short summary, I don't want to go off-topic here. We can
talk about it in a different thread.
Thanks for your help and attention,
Bye

Hi all,
$DAYJOBs have us scrambling and thus it took a bit longer to get the
minutes out the door and the wiki updated. The skinny of it is that the
board meeting on Feb 24th was canceled as we couldn't manage to get
enough of us on the phone at any point during that week :( . The
following two board meetings took place and the meeting minutes are now
posted to the wiki.
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting#Meeting_2014-03-10http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting#Meeting_2014-03-24
As always if you have any questions, comments, or concerns feel free to
reply to this thread or send a message to the board mailing list, board
at o.o
Collectively we are currently spending a good chunk of our time to get
the booth box stuff bootstrapped and figuring out where to send this
first batch of 30 boxes that is almost ready to go. For those interested
in representing openSUSE at an event please speak up. We are trying to
get the list at https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Advocates_events#2014
back into shape and get the contact info updated as well as sorting out
what events are of interest. Please help out. We received a great
proposal from Jos for LinuxTag (May 8-10 in Berlin) and some volunteers
will be needed to help organize, give talks, and man a table. Please get
a hold of Jos, remember to use his opensuse e-mail address ;) .
There will be a presentation of the booth box at oSC 14 that will show
the content and present some thoughts around the expectations of
material usage etc.
Don't forget at the end of April we will have oSC 14 in Dubrovnic. If
you have not registered please register soon to allow the organization
team to get good numbers for planning the welcome reception and the
certainly to be awesome conference party. CfP closed a couple of days
ago, thus if you didn't submit, you missed out.
