I just noticed today that the gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.user group is
missing from gmane.org - did the project request the list be removed from
gmane?
Just wondering if it was intentional or if something went wrong somewhere.
Thanks,
Jim

I am seeing this with an openSUSE 12.1 system at home, and also a
Factory system at work:
% host download.opensuse.orgdownload.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134
download.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2001:67c:2178:8::13
And then, when running zypper patch or zypper up, I see
Retrieving: repomd.xml [error]
Download (curl) error for
'http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Failed to connect to 2001:67c:2178:8::13: Network is unreachable
Alas, my provider nor that network at work support IPv6. Still, my
system has IPv6 enabled since roaming around on different networks,
IPv6 may be present, or even necessary there.
(This does not happen all the time, sometimes if I retry a bit later
the system uses IPv4 and everything works.)
Now, is this just a setup problem and I should simply and
unconditionally disable IPv6?
Or are some parts of our update or network stack in need of
some adjustments?
For the time being, unless this is just me running into this,
should we disable IPv6 on download.opensuse.org?

Hi,
Here are the meeting minutes from the board call this past Monday. As
always you can find the minutes in the wiki
(https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting#Meeting_2013-03-25) and
if you have questions, or concerns you may raise them on this list or
contact the board directly on the board list.
Regrads,
Your openSUSE Board
Board Meeting 2013-25-03
Present: Richard, Andrew, Robert
Excused: Raymond - Company Meeting
Vincent - Customer call
Will - MIA
1.) Review Action Items
- No board report :(
- CLT issues followed up
2.) Face to Face Meeting Agenda
- Items collected, ready to post first draft of the agenda to the wiki
3.) Accessibility issue
- The proposal raised on the board list is to add a new category to our
Bugzilla to clearly mark accessibility issues as such.
There are two main concerns, one is that this is a technical issue and
thus the board should keep its fingers out of this issue. The second
concern is that creating a specific category may make it easier for
people to "pass the buck" by expecting someone in the non existent
accessibility team to fix the problem.
Having a separate category for accessibility (a11y) on the other hand
will send a clear message that we as the openSUSE community care about
people with disabilities. While we have no specific resources to address
a11y issues it is important to acknowledge that an a11y issues can
easily make the system unusable for a handicapped person.
While adding to the bug category list is definitely a technical issue,
the a11y topic has a very large community component and thus the board
thinks it is appropriate to act in this area. We can certainly not
dictate any action, however a message will be sent to the -factory
mailing list asking for consideration of the topic by the developers.
The argument was made that a11y bugs should fit into the categories we
already have and that we might easier fall into a "pass the buck"
situation with a new category. It is the consensus that we should be
able to address the "pass the buck" issue with a policy/procedure. As
far as using existing categories is concerned the problem might be that
we get into a priority flip flop situation if we do not have a separate
category. A person with a disability might mark a bug as Critical, but a
developer not fully understanding the consequences might relabel it as
category 2 or 3. Having an a11y category would address such priority
flip/flop issues.
The board will, after additional discussion on the board list, send a
proposal to the -factory list for consideration by the developer
community. The proposal will recommend the addition of an a11y category
to Bugzilla and a proposal on how to handle the bugs.

Hi all,
Thanks to the response of my urgent call for volunteers, we've been
able to go ahead and arrange a booth for LinuxTag, which this year is
happening May 22-25.
We could still do with more volunteers to help with the booth. Anyone
who volunteers to commit a significant amount of their time helping at
our booth is eligible for a FREE pass to the conference (a saving of
€50 for a 4 day ticket)
I have to be the one to book the Exhibitor pass for you, so please
*email me* if you're able to attend and in need of an Exhibitor pass.
I intend to book the first round of tickets for volunteers on Friday
12th April - if you do not volunteer by this date, I cant be sure if
I'll be able to arrange an Exhibitors pass.
Once you've let me know you're volunteering please update the wiki
page here https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:LinuxTag
This page is where we're keeping all the event information together so
everyone can be sure what's going on.
For those community members who might need additional financial
support in order to attend, I suggest you consider applying to the
Travel Support Programme:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Travel_Support_Program
Please make sure you get an answer from the team before booking any
travel or hotel, but don't delay in letting me know you're willing to
help :)
Many thanks, and here's hoping for a typically great openSUSE presence
at LinuxTag in just under 2 months! :)

Anybody in the Louisville, Kentucky area? I won't be able to make it,
but I was in Louisville last year. A fun city to visit, and since this
is a new event, a great opportunity to evangelize openSUSE awesomeness
to a new audience.

Hi,
We are close to the deadline for submitting our applications for GSoC.
We have till March 29th. We have prepared our application, and will be
submitting it day after. Also, we have many projects on the Ideas page
which dont have a mentor, but have interested students. Those who are
willing to mentor these projects, please add your name to the list by
tomorrow, as we would be cleaning up the wiki, and removing the
unmentored projects by 27th March.

A few things:
1) I've put effort in using Portuguese that would be easy to
translate; if you pass through Google translate you will notice that
it's easily translated to english in a clear way, except in one
sentence. Sure some minor fixes are needed, but for the most, it works
fairly nice. Do the same with other pages and see the differences. Now
I understand why I had to learn the language for 12 years.
2) I have also a few scripts that I use for some tasks (ex: scanning
directories for media files and create NFO files for with 'mediainfo'
(already on the distro) for easy library and artwork downloads on
XBMC). I have also a few other scripts for cron to integrate with
transmission-daemon, but those are custom made for my own use case...
but I can share. I've submitted a few time ago an update to run
transmission-daemon as system service. So it's just a matter of
editing the script and changing one or two path's.
3) I haven't mentioned on the article, but people can also enable the
HTTP server on XBMC and use the an Android App as remote control for
the laptop.
4) I have the xml files to make a bootable iso with XBMC, I can share
those if needed, but in that case a few packages need to go to OBS
since I create the iso based on a local repo with a few packages I
made (ex: XBMC plymouth theme, which integrates nice) and a few addons
I've built RPM packages.
If any of this is wanted, let me know I can share them.

In recent discussions on a foreign forum I participate there were some
references for running XBMC in Kiosk Mode; I've written a tutorial
(very minimalist) to run XBMC in Kiosk mode using openSUSE 12.3 in an
old laptop (as discussed in the original thread in the foreign forum).
The tutorial is here: https://pt.opensuse.org/SDB:Tutorial_XBMC
Any translators willing to translate it to other languages, feel free
to do it; it's currently written in European Portuguese (the language
spoken in Portugal and all former colonies except Brazil).

Hello Geekos,
As the oSC13 is gonna take place in 4 months , we started (the Android
Team for oSC13) working on the Android Application for the Conference
[1]. Inside the application there is the option to choose conference
(oSC , openSUSE Summit) and download the conference schedule.
I would like to ask , this year openSUSE Summit is gonna take place?
If yes , would you like to include the openSUSE Summit in the Android
application for this year as well?
Furthermore likewise the last two years we will organize the "openSUSE
Collaboration Summer Camp" [2] , so we will include it inside the
current Android Application.
Let us what is going on,
Thanks a lot,
Geekings ,
