Hi All,
Google Code-in will come to an end in a few days. I would like to take
the opportunity to ask feedback from people. We can discuss it from
here. Personally for me, the questions that I had like to ask are this
1. How do you think Google Code-in helped us?
2. Where are the areas we can try to improve and how can we improve?
A very special Thanks to Matt, Vincent, mentors and students who made
this possible.

Eight US lawmakers have withdrawn their backing from anti-piracy laws,
amid "blackout" protests on thousands of internet sites.
Two of the bill's co-sponsors, Marco Rubio from Florida and Roy Blunt
from Missouri, are among those backing away.
Online encyclopaedia Wikipedia and blog service WordPress are among the
highest profile sites to block their content.

Let's pay attention to other daily people comments from
https://features.opensuse.org/312946
> "It is like Gnome Desktop Environment developers are now working
against Linux...
> Pure Gnome3 is just a BIG & major regress on Linux desktop, it makes
Linux desktop productivity more difficult and bring useless features.
Even the bars are frozen, you cannot interact, neither visual customize
or configure anything.

SUSE just because Linux Mint 12 have some installation bugs on HP d530
desktop, if no Mate repo I will leave open SUSE."

I have the following information recently received:
The LinuxTag 2012 will take place from 23.5. to 26.5.2012 at the Berlin
Fairgrounds.
The call for papers ends at the 31.1.2012 and we need the papers up to
that date in the virtual conference system of the LinuxTag:
https://vcc.linuxtag.org/
Anyone who is in the area and wants to represent openSUSE as well as
possibly assist at a booth, please send in your papers quickly.
Contact the openSUSE marketing team to help organize a booth as well.

Subject: The openSUSE Board invites the openSUSE community to begin planning an openSUSE event in North America.
Earlier today, SUSE delivered the exciting announcement of SUSECon, a SUSE annual conference, to be held in Orlando on September 18-21, 2012.[1] Additionally SUSE has reserved the conference venue through September 23rd and is offering the site to the openSUSE community for a multi-day openSUSE community planned event.
A North America openSUSE event would not replace the openSUSE conference! The annual openSUSE conference continues to draw an increasing number of attendees, but many from North and South America have been unable to make the trip to Europe and have voiced the desire for an event a bit closer to home. SUSE, upon hearing of interest from several USA community members, was able to extend the availability of the September venue to the openSUSE community to develop and plan an event in North America. Creating an openSUSE event, co-located with SUSECon, creates an exciting opportunity to engage and further build the growing openSUSE community in the Americas.
Volunteers from the openSUSE community are needed to plan, organize and staff the event. If you can help out in September, please attend the next openSUSE Project meeting on January 25th.[2]
2012 is an exciting year for openSUSE.
Have a lot of fun!
The openSUSE Board

Apologies for the continued abuse of a much abused acronym, but a recent
long-winded debate on opensuse-factory made me think that perhaps the
opensuse project could do with a steering committee? I have not
thought much about it, I would appreciate any and all opinions.

Hello everyone!
Unfortunately, nobody has been taking care of the #opensuse-es IRC channel in
Freenode for a long time. Ask ChanServ for info ;-)
I propose giving the appropriate OP rights to an openSUSE channel maintainer
in general (perhaps darix?) so that this kind of situation doesn't happen
again, plus three or four long time contributors/active #opensuse-es users,
such as:
karlggest (long time contributor, he isn't always online, already forum
moderator)
SkavenXXI (long time contributor, always online in #opensuse-es)
davmont (long time contributor, already forum moderator)
javier (me, long time contributor, always online in #opensuse-es)
Greetings,

In case anyone hasn't noticed, the Augsburger Linux-Infotag event has a
CFP deadline for January 22nd. If anyone is planning to go or would
like to set up some booth there, please make arrangements and let the
Ambassador team know what you have planned.

So, FOSDEM 2012 is almost there, and I know that quite a bunch
of people from openSUSE will be there.
I'd propose to collect and sort of coordinate everyone or at
least chunks of people to
* exchange some phone numbers (if wanted)
* propose and organize some place to meet and eat and drink on
Friday and/or Saturday evening
So if anyone is interested in joining, please send me an email
(off-list, no need to spam everyone beyond this email).
I'll collect names and email addresses, will quickly create a
short-lived mailing-list @fosdem.org which we can use to
coordinate.
Please also mention if you're interested in going to a
restaurant+bar on Friday evening and/or Saturday evening, in
order for me to know how many people we'd be and where to make a
reservation.
Alternatively, we could also have a page on the wiki, but that
wouldn't quite be as appropriate to broadcast some private phone
numbers :)
cheers
