I unfortunately forgot about raising this item at the status meeting, so I'm
raising it here.
The current setup with use of domains for openSUSE things seems pretty curious
to me, and it seems to me like things are all over the place. A quick
run-down:
* openSUSE.org is the main openSUSE site with the wiki and Build Service, but:
* novell.com used for the bugtracker, a lot of SVNs (artwork, various
documentation, etc)
* suse.de used for openSUSE email addresses and random other hosting
Now, I understand that YaST and Zypp are moving to a public svn, which is
awesome, and it'd be nice if other things followed too, like artwork svn
(which I'll raise on the -artwork list once it's up too).
So, I'm just wondering if there couldn't be more centralisation on
openSUSE.org for some of the above items. Any comments?
Kind thoughts,

The newest version of Ubuntu does make it simpler to work with proprietary
multimedia
formats. It includes a new guided wizard for automatically installing
multimedia codecs/restricted
formats not shipped with Ubuntu, which gives users a safe and easy way to
experience proprietary
music and videos
It could be something like this in new openSUSE.What do you think?
It's only my opinion:-)

Greetings all,
For the past few months I have been providing an openSUSE package
search at http://benjiweber.co.uk:8080/webpin, It has been providing
search for over 100,000 packages and 16,000,000 files (buildservice,
factory, official, thirdparty). I had hoped to be able to show off
some of the newer features, like the one click install integration but
that will have to wait for now.
Judging by the fact that it was getting well over a thousand search
requests a day I suspect it has not gone unnoticed that it has been
unavailable for most of this week. Thanks to all those who e-mailed to
ensure that I knew.
This is unfortunately out of my control, it was hosted on an aged
municipal server with dozens of active users, and now the inevitable
has happend and the server has died. It is unlikely to be back within
the next week.
The system is designed (http://en.opensuse.org/PKGSearch-design) to
allow multiple groups to provide search results, as well as multiple
uses of the search data. So if legal issues of indexing repositories
such as packman are a problem those indexes and web-page frontend can
be held elsewhere.
It would be nice if Novell/SUSE could provide the facilities for
indexing the core repositories and build service, but having spoken to
several employees it sounds like they do not have the resources. So if
anyone else does have the resources and willingness to do so then
please let me know.
The requirements at present:
- Shell access for running the trawler and maintenance (although
someone else could be taught to do this)
- mysql (with capability of customising server settings)
- A few gigabytes of disk space to store the xml files while indexing,
and the database + indexes themselves.
- Java 6
- Tomcat 5 or Glassfish for hosting the web service.

The opensuse-community tries to achieve a tighter knit and more efficient
community.
We try to practice what we preach, and therefore it has been decided to close
the #opensuse-community IRC channel.
Future community discussion will take place in #opensuse-project.
If you're going to miss the funny and informal chat that also happened in
#opensuse-community you'll be able to find a similar atmosphere in
#opensuse-chat.

I haven't thought about that. Add it as a feature request if you want it to be evaluated.
thanks.

Hi all,
I am sending to you the third report about the
development of instlux (a linux from windows
installer) and the integration with OpenSuSE10.3.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Contents:
1- New features
2- Getting the sources and compiling them
3- Where to get more information and collaborate
4- And now what else?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1- New features
1- Instlux can now be installed on a SATA disc (that was the most annoying bug).
2- Instlux can now be installed on a Windows98 PC (thanks to Daniel Pedigo).
3- Instlux installs even when Windows is not at the first partition.
4- Instlux supports now the OpenSuSE10.3 Alpha3 (CDROM and Internet installations)
5- Instlux supports 20 languages in one single installer and chooses the one your windows is using.
6- Instlux supports 32 and 64 bits. There is a version for 32 and a version for 64.
You can access the latest development builds at:
http://instlux.sourceforge.net/testing_builds/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2- Getting the sources and compiling them
You can access the code at:
http://instlux.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/instlux/
In order to compile it, you need the nsis for linux:
http://instlux.sourceforge.net/dependencies/nsis-2.18-alt1.i586.rpm
and python installed.
Then, just run the make_instlux.py script.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3- Where to get more information and collaborate
There is a wiki page at:
http://en.opensuse.org/Instlux
The main web page:
http://instlux.sourceforge.net
The bug tracker:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=151507&atid=781214
The feature request:
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=151507&atid=781217
The forums:
http://sourceforge.net/forum/?group_id=151507
Some extra documentation:
http://instlux.sourceforge.net/docs
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4- And now what else?
The 32 bits version is ready for being integrated into the OpenSuSE build system. So the next step should be told by the opensuse project manager.
I have not tested the 64 bits version as I do not have any 64 bit computer. So I will prefer to either test it myself or hope that someone at the opensuse community wills to do so, before integrating it into the OpenSuSE build system. Anyone?

Just wanted to say that it is a great tool and I have been using it as it is faster to use your search application than waiting for yast to download all the indexes.
I just hope you can find a server soon. Just for curiosity, do you have any statistics about the traffic you had? That is downloads per day/hour, downloads at a time, etc..
Again thanks for the great job!

As I mentioned, it's designed so it can be split, one party providing
some of the search facilities, and the rest by another party,
invisible to the user.

Hello openSUSE lovers!
openSUSE has been rapidly evolving, but the installer has stayed the
same for many versions! The installer is the first thing potential
openSUSE users see, and an immediate 'pleasant surprise effect is very
important, particularly considering the competition from other
installers available. Previous SUSE users also erroneously presume
sometimes that the distro is the same since the installer hasn't
changed, unfortunately.
I've created a page on the wiki to collect ideas on how to improve the
openSUSE installer. If you have any ideas (or concerns), please head
over to http://en.opensuse.org/Pimp_My_Installer and update it as you
see fit.
Thanks,
Magnus
