[opensuse-translation] .po editor on windows?

[opensuse-translation] Updated POT files in SVN

Yesterday we updated the yast .pot files and I run a merge. Today I'm running update-desktop-files. Please, take a look whether erverthing is ok. Thus far nothing is frozen. So I looked into it what would be needed to support that feature in our Firefox and created https://features.opensuse.org/306475 out of it. I'm copying my last comment here for completeness: ---------- A short overview what's needed to make this feature as complete as possible: 1. client support in Firefox to ask a webservice for available plugins and hook into the package installer to install the chosen plugin 2. a webservice which provides the required data to Firefox 3. a job which fills the webservice's database with available plugins The code for 1. and 2. is done in the Firefox extension "susefox" now. It's already pretty complete and usable (only some minor issues left and translations missing). For 2. a hosting platform is needed where I'm not sure if it should be opensuse.org or opensuse-community.org as we could refer to more plugins for the latter probably. For 3. nothing is really available yet. The reason is that our package metadata is missing information we would need to detect mozilla plugins. For the current implementation the database is created manually but I consider this pretty much impossible for a production service. ---------- So actually to finish this feature (if it's seen to be useful, otherwise please tell me so I stop investing time into it) I would need some help - to get the Firefox UI translations in place for as much locales as possible (it's really not much to translate right now) - to find a hosting area (currently it's running on my personal server) (to be able to offer problematic plugins it could make sense to use opensuse-community.org?) (it's a python script running through mod_python) - to get ideas how to solve 3. - if 3. is hard to solve or takes time we can consider to fill the database manually to get started but that would need some help to collect the needed information So that's basically about that feature but if you got any feature requests for Firefox about its openSUSE integration please read on: As there is now an openSUSE specific addon we can add more distribution specific things to it. Hi. I found some strings started with tag, but end line does _not_ include . Is it normal for some cases or just typo? [opensuse-translation] about update-desktop-files-screensavers.po origin

Hello all! Recently I've spend some time on full translation of update-desktop-files-screensavers.po file. There I saw a lot of records marked as comments of corresponding *.desktop file, for instance: #: /usr/share/applications/screensavers/julia.desktop msgctxt "Comment(julia.desktop)" msgid "Animates the Julia set (a close relative of the Mandelbrot set). The small moving dot indicates the control point from which the rest of the image was generated. See also the \"Discrete\" screen saver. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julia_set Written by Sean McCullough; 1997." So this description comments contain whole paragraphs of text and are really time-consuming for translations. But there is a problem: these comments DO NOT PRESENT in specified *.desktop files. Further more, these descriptions ARE NOT DISPLAYED anywhere around screensavers' configurator at least in KDE4 (BTW, can any of GNOMErs here confirm it?). These *.desktop files are located under /usr/share/kde4/services/ScreenSavers, where most of the source pointers in update-desktop-files-screensavers.po lead (not all of them: as you can see from the example above, some point to the old location). So I checked the upstream kde package with the same result: KDE translations for these *.desktop files DO NOT CONTAIN such comments either. So, @Karl: what do these paragraphs do in update-desktop-files-... if they do not exist in *.desktop files themselves? Why do translation teams have to do really hard time-taking job with no displayable result? @Coolo (assuming you wrote merging scripts for this, if not, @author): even though I successfully found out the origin of these descriptions (xml files of xscreensaver package, which I had to install specifically for this case) I still do not understand why are they included here. I can't see if they are really DISPLAYED TO USER anywhere in the system either in translated or untranslated form. 1) Could you please clarify this issue described above? 2) Upstream file with translations for both screensavers and desktop themes has approx. 70+ kB size. openSUSE's update-desktop-files-screensavers is 250+ kB. Since it is kinda strange, would you mind to have (possibly separate) discussion on improving the merging script (at least with duplicates finding) to help other translation teams and save some of their time? Hi, Cristian Secara, one of the most active Romanian translators (not only for openSUSE) showed me some errors in the openSUSE files. In yast/backup.po there is a text saying "Volume size must be at least 10240 bytes.". Is this correct or should it be 1024 bytes? In the same file, there is also this text: "Note: 1 kB=1000 Bytes, 1 kiB=1024 Bytes, etc. \nThe entered volume size will be rounded down to a \nmultiple of 2048 bytes.". According to http://www.iec.ch/zone/si/si_bytes.htm , the correct symbol for kibibyte is KiB (with capital K). [opensuse-translation] How to resolve conflicts in update-desktop-files-conflicts.fr.po?

Hi Karl, With the update-desktop-files-*.$LL.po, there is update-desktop-files-conflicts.$LL.po which store all conflicting translations. How can we resolve the conflicts? I guess that editing the update-desktop-files-conflicts.$LL.po is not the right thing to do. Are the conflicting translation also in the other update-desktop-files-*.$LL.po files? Maybe as fuzzy? [opensuse-translation] oneclickinstall renaming

I just noticed that OneClickInstall in "yast" is now available as oneclickinstall (downcased). I think while merging I reused the old translations (with the exception of Danish). The old files are still available in our SVN, thus if wanted, you can copy the old file to oneclickinstall. [opensuse-translation] Belarusian language translation of openSUSE

I would like to start Belarusian language translation of openSUSE. I see as that coordinator listed for Belarusian Language is Denis Gavrik. His email address denizz(a)telecom.by is not responding. It comes backup as none existing email. The information on the page about starting translation ( http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Localization_Guide) is not enough for me. I'm fairly technical, but I need someone to "hold my hand" at first so I can start the project going. When I understand the way it needs to be done I can connect other people who could help with actual terminology translation into Belarusain language. But before that myself needs to be "educated" first. Could someone can get in touch with me? [opensuse-translation] Slovak translation upddate in Milestone2

Hi. I noticed in Milestone2 some translation files are updated, some aren´t. For example, i commited kupdateapplet.sk.po 5 months ago, or live-installer.sk.po which is commited 6 weeks ago and they aren´t still translated. Whereas yast2-gtk.sk.po, which is commited also 6 weeks ago, is updated in Milestone2. I expected that older translations will be included in Milestone2, not newer. What´s wrong?
