Hi all,
This is the first year that I've done this so please excuse the
ignorance. I submitted a conference proposal back in January but I
never heard anything back. When will we be notified if our proposal is
approved, rejected, etc.?
Thanks,
Jason

First and foremost, thanks to the following people for standing up and
announcing they intent to run for board...
Gertjan Lettink ( Knurpht )
Simon Lees
Ana Martinez
Gerry Makaro ( Fraser_Bell )
Aaron Luna
There will be 3 seats open for this election, and remember that's a 2
year term that these fine people will be volunteering for if elected to
the board.
More to come as we get ready for these candidates are now able to
campaign until April 2nd.
One remember today was the last day to apply for membership, only member
for openSUSE can vote.
( Sorry to Aaron, I didn't see your e-mail. )

Seeing some questions on the FB group about this, probably also in the
forums - known issue, and if so, is there a rough ETA?

Hello, fellow openSUSE enthusiasts:
After some gentle prodding from one of my friends, and encouragement
from another, I have decided to run for election to the Board.
I am a long time openSUSE enthusiast and, in my world, find it is the
best OS going.
This is not to say that I do not respect other distros. On the
contrary, I respect most other Operating Systems and think they all have
a beneficial purpose.
But, for me, and the many things I do, openSUSE fits me the best.
It has been -- and is -- powerfull, robust, and mostly solid as a rock.
Along with that, it has one of the best Communities I have ever dealt
with: Great group of Users, new and long-time; The best Forum on the
planet, in my opinion, friendly and supportive to veterans and newcomers
alike; Super Developers who deliver mostly painless operation; and an
overall Great Mindset.
I am a firm believer in the openSUSE Guiding Principles:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Guiding_principles
I refer back to it every now and then, because I think it expresses an
ideal that is worth Striving for and Upholding, an ideal that helps make
openSUSE the inclusive and robust Operating System that it is.
And, I especially like helping people. I value the input and point of
view of the Users, whether new or veteran, and I value the amazing depth
and breadth of the Technical Knowledge and all-inclusive Wisdom among
the many impressive people I have been interacting with in the openSUSE
Community.
Everyone's thoughts and opinions are valuable in deciding the direction
of the OS and the Community.
I realize I am up against some very stiff and Fully Qualified
competition, but if I do manage to gain a seat on the Board, I would be
humbly Honoured to have the privilege to serve the Community.
I promise, if so elected, that I would look seriously at any ideas or
concerns brought forward by any of the members of the openSUSE Community
with a fully open mind.
To be part of the direction of such a praiseworthy Community would be an
exhilarating experience, one of the highlights of my life.
I am open to any questions, concerns, or suggestions. If you have any,
you will find me on the openSUSE Forums as Fraser_Bell, in multiple
IRCs, the mailing lists, and direct e-mail.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely:

Hi All,
For those of you who don't know me my name is Simon Lees and I am
announcing my intention to run for the board.
About me: As you can guess from my email address I now work for SUSE, I
have done so for 2 years but I have been involved in the openSUSE
community for around 7 years, mostly packaging the enlightenment desktop
and a few other things. I am also part of the factory review team and
have contributed to a bunch of other areas including patterns etc.
Vision for the project: The reasons I started using openSUSE were 1. It
treated all software particularly desktops equally, 2. The reasons I
started contributing to openSUSE 7ish years back were 1. basically any
contribution is welcome and 2. contributing is easy. I don't have any
radical new plans for the vision of the project I think its in a really
good place, mostly I just want to keep helping to make the reasons I
joined the project reasons for other people to join and keep working on
the project.
Why Vote for me:
* When I see something that needs fixing i'll probably just go and fix it.
* I have decent people skills and am reasonably good at helping people
work through problems.
* I have a good technical understanding of may parts of the project.
I might have a bit more to say in coming weeks, but if you have
questions feel free to bug me via email or as simotek on the freenode
irc network.
Cheers

Guys,
March 11th is coming fast, so if you want to run, you need to state your
intent soon...
Also, if you want to vote, you need to apply for your membership in TWO
days. Remember only members can vote.
