[opensuse-project] Censorship on openSUSE mailing list?

Good morning, I sent a mail last monday to the project and packaging mailing list, and got the reply back: The message from <axel.braun(a)gmx.de> with subject "OBS Users - kindly verify your credentials!" was unable to be delivered to the list because of an access rule set up by the list administrator. Oops? As no moderator feedback was received in between, can anyone explain this 'access rule'? Hello everyone, As found on opensuse-factory/opensuse-packaging we didn't really have written down expectations from various package maintainers. To reduce the friction and improve the situation for future I created wiki page [1] where I hopefully described current situation. Feel free to fix typos and bugs I might've created there ;) For future if something should be added, removed or fundamentaly changed in the responsibilities of any of the roles I would suggest to discuss it here on the opensuse-project list first. [opensuse-project] KDE Acronym Expansion

Is there any consensus here at the openSUSE project as to the expansion of the K in KDE. a) Having considered the troubles of some to find ways to unsubscribe, even to recall what lists they are subscribed to and also searching for a channel to convey information about unsubscribe, behavior in case of complain, responsible people (since this may change due to turnover): it would be IMO a good idea to send a reminder mail every 6 month (e.g.) containing: - the lists the email in question is subscribed to - the way on how to unsubscribe if desired -update on rules and regulations and particularly - a how to on behavior to hold in case of complain about list members causing grief or conflict - an updated list on who is in charge where in the project especially but not necessarily exclusively the ones in charge for the respective mailing-lists. The rational is that such an email avoids questioning on the very lists. The demand for it is obviously there since although in theory the information is there, it is in separate places, people forget about details, do not have time to inquire etc. The mail should not come often not to annoy people but often enough not to be outdated. IMO 6 month period is a reasonable time, one year is also acceptable but it seems long to me. The less frequent such a mail does come, the more information should it contain (in a clearly structured way) YMMV. An example mailing list that AFAIK is doing it regularly is the GNUPG mailinglist. b) a second point was about the entry page. How could one have some information be presented in a circular and dynamic way without requiring a lot of personnel to change the outfit of the page? My proposal would be to stick to this design examples of commercial websites below (disclaimer: these are design examples of what I propose, neither do I think you will be interested in the commerce nor am I associated with these people in any way. But I noticed the web-solution): https://www.bike-components.de/en/ a similar thing you have it with this vendor (just differently sized). https://www.alternate.de/ here you instead you have a tab-based approach but substantially the same solution (again the same disclaimer applies). If you have a look at the upper part of the page. It presents a slide-show that can be manually stopped, a click brings you to the corresponding information if desired and of course it circles through. Such a presentation could solve the issue of who "comes first" on a webpage, e.g. tumbleweed being on the left or leap on the right etc) as everyone will have the same circle time. This first diapo could be the one giving info of new and recent thematic, then circle to the distributions. Substantially this gives you a lot of freedom to: 1) change a lot of things 2) to not change a thing Point two is particularly nice because a redesign can be done very selectively and does not require to change the setup of the whole page. IMO an economical way of proceeding. Lastly a suggestion about how to lower complexity in link based websites (or that do convey a lot of different info available). "Click-boxes" that selectively show only a part of the information - thus making the page easier to read. An example of what I mean here, you can find it here: http://www.archchinese.com/chinese_english_dictionary.html?find=software This page will open with a lot of translations and gimmicks for the word "software" . Now look at the section "sentences" below. It is cluttered with too much info. But you see the tick-boxes? Try them out, a click and you deselect part of the page. I found this to be extremely efficient to see what you search with little effort and to have a very personalized approach to information. Where you could use this, I do not know, maybe WIKI? But I think it is nice for the eye, thus I wanted to present it here a an example, maybe it raises some interest. (Again I do not take money nor any advantage from this link, it is just for the sake of an html example). Thank you Richard, Michael and who else was present today. [opensuse-project] Seeking feedback for new package: cups-airprint

Hi everyone, Some time ago, I added support for AirPrint to my printer setup, which is based on openSUSE and CUPS. So now I can print stuff directly from my iPhone (which I still find kind of cool), and girlfriend finds it useful, too. Setting it up basically involves configuring and running an Avahi (mDNS) daemon for printer discovery, and making some minor adjustments to the CUPS configuration. Nothing complicated, but it still took some internet research and some fiddling to get it working. To make it easy for myself to repeat the setup process, I collected the outcome of that research and fiddling in a package. And now, because I'm probably not the only geeko with an iPhone, I'm considering to submit my cups-airprint package to Factory. However, before submitting it, I would really appreciate if some fellow geekos out there with Apple iOS devices could try it out, and perhaps give feedback: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:oreinert/cups-airprint Also, I'm wondering if "cups-airprint" is a legally acceptable name for a package in the openSUSE distribution, considering that "AirPrint" is a trademark of Apple Inc. How nice, it seems that I am receiving emails from opensuse again (I was "blackouted" for about 48 hours, probably a fault of my provider I complained to). Yes that was Richard Brown (AKA the "great dictator" - I am just joking, so Richard do not take this for serious will you?) and Michael that could be the one you said, let us see, ca 185-190 cm, slightly athletic with beginning signs of "well being", unlike Richard he was beardless, brown short hair. But Richard knows, so he may take it from here Not so much has been discussed, but I had seen these web designs and thought you might wish to discuss whether you like some of theses solutions. As told here, it was more a thing born out of "6 feet standing in front of the opensuse box" having a chat. Nothing, not the mailing list part nor the design part was in any way "evaluated" "predetermined" or "decided" but was (unasked from my side) a proposal. As Richard is full of work and other issues, he preferred to have me writing it down somewhere and I preferred to do it here so that everybody can think about it, refuse it, burn it, stone me and condemn me for sorcery or be cheerful and happy (the unlikely case). The idea with the mailing list came as I have the feeling people tend not to use the web interface once they are written in and tend to forget the links to the netiquette, which for the later, I would agree with Per, is taking place with 35-45 seconds after having received the acceptation letter of the list. This is why my thought was much more "one time every 6 month" rather then more frequent. YMMV. Now, hoping that this proposal was not another part of "death wish II" LOL, so, have a lot of fun and think of it, and, substantially, do with it whatever you wish and desire.
