I just noticed today that the gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.user group is missing from gmane.org - did the project request the list be removed from gmane? Just wondering if it was intentional or if something went wrong somewhere. Hello Community, my name is Chris and I am one of the Google Summer of Code Students involved in the Open Source Event Manager (OSEM). I am a student currently in the 3 year of the Bachelor of Science course with information systems and management major at the university of applied science in Nuremberg, Germany. I would like to take the opportunity to give you a short update of my work during the last week: A few days ago Henne migrated OSEM from Rails 3.2 to Rails 4.1. Because of that this week I have tried to fix bugs caused by this migration! In Rails 4, now PATCH replaces PUT for partial updates. Hence it was necessary to rewrite some url routes and update most of the html forms. Artem Chernikov gave me some advices and supported me during this task (thanks again!). Another task was to replace the deprecated Active Record methods. Hello everyone! This week I spent my time with crafting my scripts and making the boot pretty. Pretty as in, work normally. Because so far I used a trick (rd.break, anyone?) to get things up. Taming Dracut is not the easiest thing, if you have no former experience doing so. But I managed to dig through all the modules scripts now (literally, all of them), and now I'm working on the correct way of injecting our system into it. A bulleted list with a somewhat accurate timeline: - Made a quick blog, so my mentor can follow my progress much easier. It's also good for me to backtrack my process a lot easier. - Fixed up the CLF system script, so it mounts up 'modules'. Basically squashfs files, which can contain software, or modules, for example. Currently it's used to update the image's modules. - Fixed up the scripts so they would chainload perfectly. The system gets mounted flawless after the user selects his image of choice. - Learned a ton about Dracut again. One such thing was it's conf and switches. How they behave. - Spent a ton of time with pivot_root, switch_root and the like (manual mount). Because pivot_root and switch_root would fail miserably at boot. Michal (my mentor) had a great idea. The default mount point and a clean exit booted up the new system. This took me to the right track. - 'exec' fooled me great at debugging. ;_; - Learned how to use expect, where to execute it. Not sure if we will need it in the final version without breaks... But expect is so powerful, it may come in handy later on. - Debugging, debugging, debugging. So CLF is at the stage where automagic is being worked on. Mount is done = booting, working system. I need to add syslinux to the equation and it's a thing people could already install on a pendrive. (Of course, we are far from the final goals, as there are so many things I could improve, and so many things I could implement, even if the basics are done. Which is not the case at the moment, so yeah.) Thanks to the quickblog, expect lenghtier reports from now on. (I did work a lot before as well, but I just summed things up real fast each week.) Currently, git-review is able to do the following operations on bitbucket repositories: 1. List all open pull requests 2. Show details (diff, comments, etc.) of single pull request 3. Open pull request in a browser window 4. Checkout a pull request’s changes to local repo The next step is to enable git-review to create, approve/decline, and merge pull requests. These will be the tasks for the following few weeks. Hello Community, I happy to say that I passed my mid-term evaluations, thank you for the support and guidance so far. This week I integrated a theme inspired by onassis of http://www.blacktie.co(license http://www.blacktie.co/about-themes/). I also integrated FontAwesome(license http://fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/license/) and smoothscroll for better effects and animation for the splash.Although I am open any kind of addition to view level be it animations, assets, layouts.My mentor said that theme would be generally changed by the admins using OSEM, so I wrote only one css file for the time being, if time is left I can write one more theme for the splash. So I am left with three components(Press, Footer and Gallery) which I will finish and push next week and as per my proposal I would be working on Email Notifications. The email notifications needs attention because whenever a conference is updated there is no check which part is updated and the participants are not informed about the update which is very essential. Hello everyone, This week, my work so far was completely reviewed and merged to a separate branch in the main repository on GitHub. Further, more state machines have been added to the app(Shipments). I have designed the implementation method to automate the state machines and discussed about the same with my mentor.During this discussion some shortcomings of the current design were spotted and fixes for them were considered. hi all, This is my report for the week of May,26 to May,31 2014.I'm working on adding ePub support in Atril,the MATE document-viewer. This week i wrote the code that would be used to extract and parse the ePub archive. I am almost done with the helper functions, and now i am trying to get everything to build as a part of Atril compilation, which requires linking the Atril document and view librarieswith my backend. I am currently on top of that and hope to get a successful build by Tuesday. Hi, this is my ninth weekly status report for my GSoc project. I don't have a lot of exciting news this week. As planned I have started working on porting the MATE volume control application to my new mixer library and just as expected it's still too early to have a working version. I believe I'll have a working version by the end of the next week. Along with that I have commited a couple of fixes to my library. Next week I'm going to continue working on porting the app and there will also be some updates to the library which will be required for the app to work. Hi, For my GSoC project, I will be working on caja, the file manager for the MATE desktop. My primary goal is to extend its extensions functionality to allow runtime (de-)activation of individual plugins, and to create an extension management system to allow more complex extensions. This last week, I finished my implementation for an extension manager in Caja. Both the back-end and user interface are complete. I also began writing the code required to have extensions load/unload at runtime. Hi All, Sorry for sending this update late. I spent most of the week trying to integrate bucketkit into git-review and modify the current code structure whenever needed. I haven't written new unit tests for it yet because as I went along I've also changed the existing ones. According to the project schedule, I'll probably get to it in the next one or two weeks. Since it's about the mid-term evaluation time, looking at the whole project I feel the progress is quite on track. I hope I'll be able to finish bitbucket integration by the mid of July, and move to support GitLab if possible. Hello everyone! This week was full of breakthroughs, and full of challenges. I have written the scripts that will generate the dialog where you can choose which image you want to boot. I have written the script for the next step, that actually does the work, automagically. We also had continous mail exchange and chats with my mentor. He helped me out with debugging and stuff, like always. Okay I don't nag him 0-24, but each time we talk I learn a lot, and his expertise got me out of the worst debug sessions as well. (The documentation and helpful messages are quite scarce with these tools. Most of them even lack verbose output and logging. - just .....why?) Besides those, I have managed to create the necessary Dracut modules (to get our files included - what we need), in the Dracut image file. So everything is going smooth. Of course, I break through a barrier, another gets in the way. But that makes it all fun. (Yeah, I know, there is a deadline. So I will keep that having fun part short.) Now I'm working on a reliable final step solution that works best (e.g.: when you switch to the system you want to fire up). Again, this requires the very same steps. Write, test, test, write, test, test, write. Rinse and repeat. I already have a load of scripts, just to shave off testing time. Once the mount is done - the current step, next is automation, with booting on a real drive. So in short: real life. And of course, further testing, improvements. There is a lot to do, even if I sum it up in one or two lines, so no worries, I won't die from boredom, that's for sure. :) (But I sure do enjoy the task, so it's a win-win for me.) Hello Community, This week I completed the Location component with lodgings and added a banner component to the splash.This banner component is in place of carousel, it contains a background image, conference title, start-end dates and description. I also added the checkboxes for each component in admin dashboard as decided previous week, so that admins/organizer now can enable the component on the splash when they think it's completed.On a different note, we locked down on the carousel to be implemented as gallery in a lightbox.This enabled me to use the carousel code that I have written for taking photos for carousel. Only thing I have to do for gallery is to make the frontend the backend code for taking photos form the admin dashboard is merged. Next week is mid-term evaluation.Next, I will implement some styling onto the splash as decided by James.This won't take much time as I have to implement styling by looking at the themes.However, James and I decided that I will next improvise the email notifications as mentioned in my proposal.The email notifications have to implemented in a way so that the Users attending the Conference are aware about each and every update that the admins make to the conference and these mails will be fired by the admins explicitly. Hi, The last few days were spent coding the webview into Atril. I had some concerns about not being able to use the Atril frontend and having to adjust in a lot of frontend code, so I had a chat with my mentor Stefano and we reached to the conclusion that even though we would be compromising on the look and feel of Atril, it was best if I just continued with the original plan wherein the Webkit window will replace the Atril view in the Atril container. There were also some compatibility issues with the new webkit2 API, which heavily depends on GTK3, while Atril and all MATE software for that matter is based primarily off GTK2. So now I'm coding off webkit-1.0 which though depracated is still supported. Currently I'm writing callbacks to control the behaviour of GTK widgets in the reader(and hoping that I don't run into some thread problem!). That's all for this week.I Hope I have good news to deliver next week :) ,after which I can start focusing on all the additional features I plan on adding. Hi there, This week I worked on helper functions which are needed by the major functions(API) which I am supposed to implement.This included 1)libxlsnapshotMetadataWrite This function should be called each time a snapshot is taken to update libvirt xml metadata to track the snapshot. 2)libxlSnapshotMetadataUpdate This function should be called on various occasions e.g to update the current domain xml config after taking or deleting a snapshot. 3)libxlSnapshotForEachQdisk This function is a wrapper function around xen libxl's disk_snapshot function.I takes care of all the disks on a domain.This is what should be called when taking the internal snapshot of an inactive domain. 4)libxlSnapshotObjFromSnapshot This function takes a snapshot and returns a snapshot obj representation.The difference between the two being that the "snapshot obj" structure has more information. Also because I am following the libvirt qemu driver(which I this has a lot of boiler plate code anyway) I was thinking about having functions to prepare the disks for snapshots.Here I am taking of checking the user commands for errors and maybe some operations which are not supported. All in all, I will continue working on this and should be done next week. *Ahem*,..sorry for writing sooo much detail.I just don't know how else to explain this. Hi all, As planned this week passed with the implementation of the least connections load balancing strategy. I've made a lot of consultation with my mentors to get information about how to do that properly, and of course I did it the way they told me. As the one before, this strategy is also covered with unit tests. I also made some changes with the packaging, unfortunatley 5.0 seems to be missing the same version of libzorpll which I don't exactly understand because the required libzorpll is seems to be packaged well in the same project. I'm on my way to solve the issue. The results are visible on my GitHub, and OBS. Next week I finalize everything I did so far, and plan the next half of the project with my mentors. I also did some extra work on the library to improve the code and fix problems. So far I have ported the volume applet and it is fully functional. Next week I intend to start porting the volume control application. I expect it will take me about 2 weeks. [opensuse-project] [GSOC] OSEM Refactor user management model

Hey all, I will be working (too) on OSEM for this GSOC. My project is about refactoring the user/person model and implementing roles. My mentors are Ancor and Artem, and we are already in touch. If everything goes smoothly with these changes, there might be some time left for me to work on more stuff too. But let's see... As Christian mentioned, recently there were several changes implemented. Most related bugs are fixed, and we are still working on what's left. In addition, we are starting to write tests, and that hopefully will attract more contributors too. For the user/person model part of my project, I will be changing stuff that could affect the other two projects too, so I hope that all 3 students we can be in touch and coordinate efforts on that. I will be soon making public details about the implementation of my gsoc project. As a conference organizer I do have some concrete ideas regarding how we should change the user/person models and what kind of roles we would need, but I have had some very interesting ideas coming from other organizers, based on their needs for their conferences. OSEM is for everyone to use, not just for openSUSE Conference, but any other conference or other event (smaller or bigger). As such, we want to try and make OSEM a suitable tool for more people. Hi, This is a short update on this week’s progress. As I’ve mentioned in the previous update, the minimum variable version of bucketkit was completed last week. This week I started integrating it into the current git-review codebase. I’ve encountered some challenges because git-review was initially designed for github only, and in order to add in other platforms such as BitBucket and GitLab, we need to clearly separate the code that interacts with different platforms and the rest. A few other developers have done quite a lot in this direction, but there are still abstractions to be made. Another thing is the unit tests. Currently we have many tests that cover most of the code, but some of them seem like testing the implementation instead of behavior. The result is that changes to the code almost always means changes to the tests as well. I’m thus also looking at refactoring the tests. Hi all, This is the report for week 7 of my GSoC project. Last week, I completed basic playlist operations such as create/edit/delete, but after a discussion with Morris, we thought of doing these actions inline, not in a separate view. For this, I needed to change the methods I use. Calling a template using the same view prevented angularJS to perform ng-click events, so I had to get help from jQuery. Now, jQuery calls our angularJS methods to perform those actions. Hello everyone, Last week, I completed the implementation of the 2 controllers, states_controller and transition_events_controller using gems like inherited resources and ransack. I have also designed their corresponding views to enable CRUD implementation. I added a new user role named 'admin' to have exclusive abilities to manage the State and TransitionEvent model. I have shared the screenshots of the views with my mentor for opinions and suggestions on the design. I am now writing specs to test some scenarios of these 2 controllers. Next week, as instructed by my mentor, I will be working on the interesting part of using the data in the models State and TransitionEvent to implment the state machine in models like request and reimbursement. Hello Community, This week was less work and more review.My mentor was not well so I got my components reviewed later this week.However, the Sponsor and Social Media components are merged now.I need to little refactoring with with Location component and that will be merged too. Well I did the carousel component but Henne said that carousel are useless so indeed we decided to have fold as in https://conference.opensuse.org/index.html#home. and we discussed here https://github.com/openSUSE/osem/pull/222. So on discussing with James I have to redo this component again. Next Week Plans: Right now there is no admin check on the components like whenever the data for components are entered in the admin dashboard for the conference they are rendered.So I will go ahead and create checkboxes for each and every component so that the components are only visible in the splash when the admin/organizers wants them to be displayed. Hello everyone! This week i managed to make the environment bootable, to make a rough 'sketch'. (Well, at the moment I start the boot from my current PC, but the rest is on track. Ths will be just a minor task, integrating a boot loader (syslinux) in front of that. Testing was easier like this.) Managed to dig out all the documentation (it was a tougher task than expected) for my final set of tools. So in theory, everything is ready to go for the final round. (Which looks like the longest task so far.) The final step of the drive, which is the automatic discovery of images (simple) + menu system (simple), mount (done), boot (test needed). I have everything written down (like commands, doc, etc), but testing requires some time. I'm working as hard as I can, to make up for make something runnable/testable as soon as possible. hi, This is my weekly report for week 3 of coding for my project where i add ePub support to Atril, the MATE document viewer.This week i planned on getting a basic ePub up and running, but due to a coding error that got the better of me for two days, i am still working on that, as on where that leaves us, i overhauled the xml parsing functions,and ended up with much better code. I am done with all helper functions, and am now focusing completely on getting the code working inside Atril.Once this is done Mathjax integration should be simple, and although a week over my first project goal still i would be able to get this done in the week. I did a large amount of work on the PulseAudio backend and made several previously unexpected but neccessary changes to the public api. Apart from that the library now also includes early gtk-doc documentation. The library still has some unfinished spots, but I hope to sort them out during the weekend and finally start working on porting the applications on Monday as planned. Hi, For my GSoC project, I will be working on caja, the file manager for the MATE desktop. My primary goal is to extend its extensions functionality to allow runtime (de-)activation of individual plugins, and to create an extension management system to allow more complex extensions. Last week I started working on the five implementation steps required for the main goal of my project. Unfortunately, I underestimated the amount of work that was required, in particular for the later steps. As such, I did not manage to complete it. Currently, I have almost finished step 3, and I hope to complete it before or on Monday. At that point I will commit my code to github. I should be able to finish all the steps before my last update. 1. Extend the default gsettings schemas to create a subcategory for extensions -modify libcaja-private/org.mate.caja.gschema.xml 2. Make the load_module_dir() procedure keep track of extensions found in CAJA_EXTENSIONDIR. Add new modules to the config (gsettings), and load known modules depending on their enabled/disabled status in said config. -modify libcaja-private/caja-module.c 3. Create new GUI tab in "File Management Preferences" to list available extensions and allow changing of their enabled/disabled status. -modify caja-file-management-properties.[c|ui] 4. Modify load module procedure to allow loading/unloading extensions during runtime. -modify libcaja-private/caja-module.c -modify individual gui elements insertion functions (caja-window-menus.c and such) 5. Allow extensions to expose a proper name, so we don't have to identify them by their module filename ('example.so') in the GUI. Hello everyone, Last week, I worked on both testing the 2 models that I had added, and designing the controllers for the same. In the beginning of the week I wrote some specs to pass the validations in the State and TransitionEvent models.After which, upon the suggestion of my mentor, I wrote a spec(and fixtures) to verify that these 2 models( and their associations) comply with the current request machine's workflow. After these tests, I moved on to designing the controllers StatesController and TransitionEventsController to implement CRUD feature in the 2 models. I referred back to my mentor for suggestions on new gems and methods to be learnt for designing controllers, as a result of which, I learnt the usage of many important gems like inherited_resources,cancancan,simple_form and ransack. These gems have simplified the ideas and thought me the actual principles of Rails developement i.e DRY and RESTful approach. I'm now working on implementing these 2 controllers and accordingly design the views for the same. [opensuse-project] [gsoc] Weekly status report - MATE gstreamer project

Hi, this is my sixth weekly status report for my GSoc project. This week has been rather problematic for me as most of it I was otherwise occupied. I managed to do some PulseAudio backend related work in my library and add some API pieces, but it was much less than I intended to do. However, I now consider the public API pretty much ready to go and for the next week I plan to focus solely on the PulseAudio backend work. I still believe I will have the library ready for a test run at the end of the next week as planned. The latest GitHub commit is very large, but that is mainly because it also contains unfinished work from last week with this week's fixes. Hi all, This week as I planned, I finalized the packaging of the newly released Zorp GPL 5.0. Now as you can see, all the Zorp GPL 5.0, and related things are packaged to RPM as well. Also in this week after I finished the packaging stuff, I started to implement the missing load balancing strategies. There is no showable result yet, but at least by the end of the next week I will be able to show you my results. [opensuse-project] [GSoC] Playlist functionality for Music App of ownCloud - Week 6

Hello again, As you might remember, last week I completed Listing hardcoded playlists with hardcoded songs. See the last week's progress here [0]. This week's task was to fetch those lists from the database. For that, I started using Restangular API to sent Rest API Restful Resources easily. - As the first step, I used sqlite3 to add the manual entries to the database (In community bonding period, I have already added the new table to the database) and fetched them to show the same lists that we had in hardcoded way. - The second step was to get the song list written in database and display them on the page. After those steps, I had enough time to implement basic Playlist functionality such as adding, renaming and deleting playlists. I also enabled a simple way to update the songs which you would like to have in the playlist. Here is the new playlist creation page: http://i.imgur.com/xu6bQMb.png And this is the playlist view that lists the songs and allows to do some basic playlist operations (simply click on a listname to open the view): http://i.imgur.com/PNRfY0k.png To delete a list, simply click on x next to the list name. The newly added playlists will have two songs assigned with 1 and 2 which can be edited as I mentioned. Next week, I will be working on playing the songs one after each other which does not work with the current status. Hi, For my GSoC project, I will be working on caja, the file manager for the MATE desktop. My primary goal is to extend its extensions functionality to allow runtime (de-)activation of individual plugins, and to create an extension management system to allow more complex extensions. Now that my exams are over, I could finally devote myself to my GSoC project. At the beginning of this week, I continued work on my example extensions. I now have a full set of extensions that demonstrate most if not all of the functionality made possible through libcaja-extension. Now that I understand the process better myself, I have also begun writing much-needed documentation on this subject for future extension developers. In the later part of the week, I have begun with the changes required to caja for the main goal of my project. I hope to finish implementing the following five steps in the coming days: 1. Extend the default gsettings schemas to create a subcategory for extensions -modify libcaja-private/org.mate.caja.gschema.xml 2. Make the load_module_dir() procedure keep track of extensions found in CAJA_EXTENSIONDIR. Add new modules to the config (gsettings), and load known modules depending on their enabled/disabled status in said config. -modify libcaja-private/caja-module.c 3. Create new GUI tab in "File Management Preferences" to list available extensions and allow changing of their enabled/disabled status. -modify caja-file-management-properties.[c|ui] 4. Modify load module procedure to allow loading/unloading extensions during runtime. -modify libcaja-private/caja-module.c -modify individual gui elements insertion functions (caja-window-menus.c and such) 5. Allow extensions to expose a proper name, so we don't have to identify them by their module filename ('example.so') in the GUI. [opensuse-project] rsync.opensuse.org not current?

This question has come up on a couple mailing lists, but I haven't seen any answer yet.... Is rsync.opensuse.org not syncing properly? It seems to not have the obs repos in sync (for example, the Virtualization repo is current through April 14, 2014 or so). I've just noticed, though, that the repo at rsync:// anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/opensuse-distribution/repositories/ Virtualization/openSUSE_13.1 is more current (as of a couple days ago at the most). Is this a known issue and being investigated?
