Today the openSUSE Travel Support Team opened the Travel Support
Request Submission tool for requests related to the openSUSE
Conference 2014 in Dubrovnic, Croatia. The goal is to help everybody
in and around openSUSE to be able to come to the openSUSE Conference!
You don't have to be one of the top 10 packagers to apply - if you're
translating, building a local community or helping out at the forums,
we might still be able to offer you support, so apply!
When and how
The application period starts today February 20th and closes on
February 28th. All requests will be managed through our application at
http://connect.opensuse.org/travel-support.
You will need an openSUSE Connect account in order to log in the
application and apply for sponsorship.
A few reminders
- Please, read the Travel Support wiki page
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Travel_Support_Program carefully
before you apply.
We want everybody to be there! Even if you think you would not qualify
for travel support, just submit a request! If you don't ask we can't
help you!
- The Travel Committee can reimburse up to 80% of travel and lodging
costs. That includes plane ticket, train and bus tickets (no taxi),
even car gas on some occasions, and hotel or hostel costs. Food and
all local expenses are on you!
- The Travel Team won't be able to book or pay anything in advance,
reimbursement comes after the event is over, based on receipts you
keep of your expenses.
- Again: no receipts = no money - it's the rules!
- Those sponsored by the Travel Team have to write a blog or report on
the event and are expected to be available for helping with tasks at
the event where needed!
- Sponsorship decisions are influenced by the openSUSE history of the
requester. Your involvement with openSUSE is really relevant!
- Having an abstract submitted for presentation at the conference is
relevant as well. Note that the CfP ends on February 28th so there is
still time (https://conference.opensuse.org/osem/)!
- If you got support before and complied with all the requirements,
this gets you bonus points too.
- The amount requested must be detailed according to your request,
like the airport you will be departing from, sharing hotel/hostel
rooms, costs associated with your trip.
- Try to get the best fares for tickets and lodging. Remember if
approved at least 20% (and sometimes more) will be paid by you.
Hurry up!
Our goal is to support as many people as possible. If you need support
to make it to the event, PLEASE SEND IN A REQUEST
https://connect.opensuse.org/travel-support/users/sign_in ! We will
attempt to send the approvals before March 5th, 2014 so you can start
booking. Book quickly, as we don't cover anything over the previously
agreed amount so higher prices are on you!
The conference is getting close and the deadline for travel support is
tight so start searching for flights right now! Set up your openSUSE
Connect account and send in a request as soon as possible!
Hope to see you there.
Your Travel Support Team

Hey all,
just a quick reminder that the first round of CfP will be over at the
end of this week.
Perhaps we could communicate this through social media?
Tnx,

Hi all,

so now via Melange [2]. If you have questions about how to use
Melange, please see our User's Guide [3]. Please note that the
application process has changed a bit from previous years: to apply
you must now create your individual profile and then an organization

Please note that the application period [4] closes on 14 February at

hi geekos ;-)
calm & quiet weather ? ;-) I would bet on : too stressed to talk lol
I was just wondering if there is a page, or a somewhere,
telling concretely:
what contribution (todo or ppl profile or ...) are needed ?
(before - during or while - after)
I'm not talking about design or "call for paper" -
but for those of us who have planed to come (I met a few at fosdem), and
are ready to help all the time, or part of their time
that was an general question,
and specific for me :
for OSC14 organization team, Ive planed to come and can help 80 % of my
time (as anything you need and I can do lol, as welcoming ppl, or moving
tables, or selling beers - but not singing, neither guiding somebody
from 1 place to another .. except if you wish to loose the somebody).
thanks for ready
double thanks for an answer ;-)

hi again,
(I'll stop after that one, I promise lol)
Let's imagine (2 minuts) a conference program with 3 levels ... green
for basic, orange for medium, and red for hard lol (high level)
(as most training center do - linguistic ou LPI)
ok I know the community doesnt like very much a hierarchy ... but let me
a few second explain the idea :
when new ppl, users or contributors or Mrs Smith (who came in because
she saw light) ...
arrived at OSC (talking about own experience lol)
it's quite difficult (ok I agree, some of us or of you lol are masochist
or dont like easy ways) to choose a conference ...
( and it can be a good strategy too ... to do the way harder, so that
most get lost )
so at the end, you find noobs lost in technical conf. (slowing down with
stupid question ... and I belong sometimes to that category, depending
on the subject)
and you find technicians-ingeniors talking together or reading their
mails in low-level-conf because they get bored ...
so ... my idea or suggestion (?) : was to add 3 level or geekos (green,
orange, red), or stars on the program,
and if ppl can print the conf. planning green, orange, red,
it would simplify the decision strategy lol
(less ppl late, less running in corridors, and less talkers wondering
why ppl are not intered by his talk ... ;-) caricature ok)
A message in a bottle ... for anybody ?
tc all
