This years openSUSE Election Committee is in the pleasant position to announce the 2013 Board elections[0]. There will be 4 seats to be elected, 2 for a 2 year term, and 2 for a 1 year term. The time-line we decided for this years elections is the following: * 28.10. Start of standing up for candidacy, nominating candidates, apply for membership * 18.11. Start of candidates campaign * 2.12. Ballots open * 15.12. End of voting * 16.12. Announcement of the results If you want to participate in the openSUSE board and influence the future direction of the project please stand up and announce[1] your candidacy. If you know someone who you would like to see on the board, feel free to contact the election officials team ad propose your candidate. All openSUSE members[2] are eligible to vote. Present: jdsn, jw, lnussel, lrupp, mrueckert Topics: 1) doc.opensuse.org vs. activedoc.opensuse.org 2) Who is responsible for the update of the release-notes 3) Who is responsible for the index.html with the current release notes list 4) New layout for openSUSE release notes 5) Future plans for (open)SUSE release notes ---- Problems: * activedoc is the planned successor of doc.opensuse.org * what we release now (release-notes wise), needs to stay at least 2 years Solution: * activedoc will sooner or later replace the doc.opensuse.org (doc.opensuse.org will be activedoc.opensuse.org, the static content of doc.opensuse.org will be integrated into the activedoc front page) * as the release notes are below a /release-notes/ directory, this will be a simple apache alias and can stay whatever we do with the front page * old names (like docs.opensuse.org) will stay as long as they make sense and will just become an DNS alias that points to the "right" name 2) Who is responsible for the update of the release-notes * technical documentation and packaging will stay in the hands of the openSUSE team and doc team respectively. * once a new release-notes package is ready, it should go the current standard way via maintenance * autobuild will take care of the sync to all needed places (esp. http://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/) 3) Who is responsible for the index.html with the current release notes list http://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/ is currently empty, but should contain a list of release notes for the current openSUSE distributions. The openSUSE Team will take care to deliver (and update) an index.html to the autobuild team, which will integrate the page into the sync process. 4) New layout for openSUSE release notes The new layout developed for the SUSE Linux Enterprise distribution will also be used for upcomming release-notes packages of openSUSE (including old distributions, if an update is scheduled). 5) Future plans for (open)SUSE release notes The current setup is now at least 10 years old: YaST downloads the RPM package mentioned in the content file of the installation media. This is - for historical reasons - a special place, not identical to the standard repositories that are used for installation or update. [opensuse-project] Super Computing conference 13 in Denver

Sorry for the cross post, need to reach as large an audience as possible. SUSE is a sponsor at SC13 and we have a 10x20 booth with a mini theater to give presentations. The team managing the SUSE presence and the event would like to have an openSUSE presence in the booth :) . In the past many questions about openSUSE were asked and it would be great to have a community member present to handle this. There is also an opportunity, for whomever goes, to give a 5 to 15 minute presentation about openSUSE. SC13 takes place November 18-21 in Denver Colorado, i.e. right after SUSECon and the openSUSE Summit. This is not retsricted to 1 person, if we have a different person for each day that's fine as well. Unfortunately, there is no money in the TSP fund as we used it all up for the Summit for this quarter ;) . Thus, if you are "local" to Denver or willing to pick up your own travel costs and willing to represent openSUSE at SC13 in Denver please speak up. We do have a number of passes to the Exhibit, thus entry into the event is "free". This has just come to my attention and thus the timing is a bit tight, sorry. Whomever is interested to jump in please speak up and let me know. Hello, I have build the OpenSource ERP System Tryton (www.tryton.org) in my private sandpit https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home%3ADocB%3Apython_packages and would like to find a place in the 'official' repositories for it. And yes, I know that some packages require reqork to match official guidelines What would be a suitable place? E.g repositories/ERP repositories/Application:/ERP If this is not the right list to ask, please advise. Thanks Axel
