I like the idea of having some videos playing at the booth. I like it
because there is some real value is having some movement at the booth
and something that people can stop and watch if they are having an
introverted moment and don't want to stop and talk to one of us. Also,
it could give them some food for thought to form some questions to ask
us, or spur their curiosity enough that they grab a promo DVD, or even
just checkout opensuse.org later. It can also be great as something to
connect with people over -- a conversation starter.
If you would like some help, I can use recordmydesktop to show off KDE
at least (I have been using KDE since late 2003, so I know my way
around fairly well). I have an older system I could install with the
different desktops that we can use to grab some video of them too...
though they may not look as fluid as the KDE video I can make (I
really have not used another desktop other than KDE in some time)...
just let me know what you have in mind and how I can help.

Great Idea... it has been some time since I have been to that page.
Almost forgotten about it.
It looks like Vistaprints does do banners but I don't know if they
would be the right choice. On the other site I linked to, the banners
are larger. Vista does have a fair selection of sizes though.

Hi everyone,
If you have joined the openSUSE project within the last 3 years, I
would like to kindly request your help for a survey:
https://limesurvey.sim.vuw.ac.nz/index.php?sid=65151&lang=en
(open until November 21).
The purpose of the project is to work out how newcomers to a FOSS
community become valued sustainable contributors. This is part of my
PhD thesis.
Vincent Untz and Jos Poortvliet are supporting this research.
Thanks!

Hello Everyone,
Hereby I would like to announce my intention to run for the Board in this
years election.
I guess that most of you know me already based on my work for the openSUSE KDE
team. I have started working with Linux since the early days (Kernel v0.12)
and used openSUSE since 2003.
I joined the openSUSE project about 4 years ago when I submitted my first KDE
package. From that moment things went very fast and I am currently the main
maintainer for the KDE repositories and maintaining Chromium and the Plymouth
bootsplash. One of the next things I want to tackle (package wise) is Dracut
as an alternative initrd builder.
My current "day job" is Application Portfolio Manager for a well-known
bottling company that focus on the Central and Eastern Europe market. If you
look closely at my IRC nick, then you could guess which company it is :-) In
this job I am responsible for setting out the strategy of all Applications
used within the company. This ranges from our main Enterprise System (SAP) to
desktop tools like collaboration, email, etc. The strategy should e.g. enable
Business opportunities to exploit the main Enterprise system further.
If I am elected to the board, then my day job and past IT experience would be
a good use. I would like to see the board to set out a new strategy for the
openSUSE distribution which makes it possible to enhance our strengths and
values. In the past SuSE has established a name for itself and it created some
great tools, which even now are unmatched.
Nowadays everything is about Usability and Accessibility. How usable is the
software, how accessible is the information, how can I use this program, etc.
I would like to extend this principles to the openSUSE project,
On one hand we need to strengthen the relationship and the communication
between the openSUSE community, including people working for SUSE. Only
together we can accomplish great things.
On the other hand we should value our end-users. These users are giving
valuable feedback about how they see openSUSE with regards to Usability and
Accessibility and their feedback should be incorporate into the final product.
This drives the success of a distribution. Too many things out there are
already being decided by a handful of people without listening to others.
It is my opinion that the board should play a big role in both areas and to
enable openSUSE to grow.
My promise to you is that I will do my best to establish the above, If I would
be elected.
Regards
Raymond (tittiatcoke)

Hello Everyone,
I figured I'd get the ball rolling. I'm announcing my intent to run for the Board in this years Board Elections
I'd hope most of you know me already - I've been using SUSE Linux since 2003 and contributing to openSUSE since the Project started.
I've got my hands dirty in many aspects of the project, from testing, packaging, working on branding and artwork, to providing support on IRC. I currently work mostly in the GNOME, Marketing, and Ambassador teams, and have previously worked on the Artwork team.
I'm an active Ambassador, who regularly attends conferences where I do my best to to both evangelise about our great project, but also gather ideas and feedback on how we could improve. I've been involved in the efforts to reshape the Ambassador programme into something more useful for openSUSE
My current 'day job' is as a Systems Manager for a college in the south of the UK which uses a great deal of Linux and FOSS technologies, including openSUSE.
Through that job, I currently hold a Board Member position of the TTP User Group, which consists of sysadmins of hundreds of Colleges internationally, all using SUSE/Novell/NetIQ products.
If I am elected to the board, my intention is to be an enthusiastic and active Board member.
I want to see our community grow in both numbers and activity. We need to be more vocal about our strengths, and most honest about our weaknesses.
I think we need to improve communication across the community, and I'd like to see the Board take a more active role in resolving any disputes.
I'd also like to see the Board stepping up to engage the community in helping out to address deficiencies or weaknesses in the project. I don't want to see the board starting to meddle in the affairs of development, but I do think situations like the delays to 12.1 could have been helped by having a board that is willing to speak up and call for the community to help out.
So when the Ballots open in a few weeks, please consider voting for me, I promise to do my best if I am elected.
