Which reminds again that mailinglist handling @opensuse is a PITA.
In case of that list even the mailto subscribe links are missing on
lists.opensuse.org.
Don't we have anyone in the project who could write a web front end
that saves us from the clumsy confirmation process for each and every
list?

Hello Mates,
don't worry about this mail. I just would like to remind that our next
openSUSE Weekly News 197 comes out at Saturday evening (UTC +2).
Until Saturday 08:00:00 (CEST) +0200 UTC you can propose Articles, Links
and all such stuff for integrating into the Weekly News.
For people who don't want to write it in XML, you can use our Pad:
http://os-news.ietherpad.com/2.
I've planned to send this Mail each Wednesday to remind on the Weekly
News.
Have a lot of fun

As Berlios.de will be shutting down all services at the end of the year, we need to move out our
infrastructure and translation repositories from there.
I went through the infrastructure projects, and migrated the active ones to gitorious:

Hi,
I am having issues with the calendar,
http://news.opensuse.org/?ec3_ical, the openSUSE appointments no longer
show up in T-bird lightning.
Anyone else seeing this issue?
T-bird 3.1.14 on openSUSE 11.4 64 bit.

Hey,
I just wanted to remind everybody about a simple fact which seems to be
forgotten way to often:
To reach a human being that can help you with problems that you might
have with the mailing list software, the content of the list or with
other subscribers, send an e-mail to <LISTNAME>+owner(a)opensuse.org.
Don't expect the moderators of the lists to read every single mail that
goes through it. If you notice something or have a complaint _ALWAYS_
fire off an email to the owner. This info is now also available in the
footer of every mail as a reminder.
And while we're at it I would like to remind everybody that we play by
some rules here. Most prominently by the rules of common sense, then by
our beloved Guiding Principles[1] and also by some mailing list specific
rules called the Netiquette[2].
Thanks for your consideration :)

With the 2011 openSUSE Board term coming to an end, the openSUSE Board
is proud to welcome the following members of our openSUSE Community as
this year's Election Committee.
Izabel Valverde
Kai-Uwe Behrmann
James Mason
Kostas Koudaras
Thomas Schmidt
In the coming days and weeks, this committee will act independently to
implement a formal plan for the oversight and election of a new Board
for the 2012 term. Currently, three board seats will be up for
election. These seats are currently held by Rupert Horstkotter, Pavol
Rusnak, and Bryen Yunashko (whose seat is vacated due to term limits.)
The Election Committee will announce the nomination process and election
period as part of the election plan. Please stay tuned for further news
from the Committee itself.
We are sure this team will perform its duties to the best benefit of the
openSUSE Project and we look forward to an exciting election term and
seeing many openSUSE Community members stepping up as candidates in the
upcoming election.
Sincerely,
The openSUSE Board

Hi,
We had a short go/no-go meeting on #opensuse-factory and decided
that the fuser problem may be the cause of all evil and now that it's gone,
we can go forward and release beta1.
We even managed to get most of the artwork updated in the days slippage.
If you come around it, I will upload build315 to the mirrors tomorrow morning.
When to announce publically I leave to the marketing guys, I'll be mainly
off the internet till tuesday as monday is public holiday for me and I'm told
publishing news on friday is bad - but I'll make sure the ISOs are available
for interested testers. I hope that's ok for the team.
Now the interesting question is what about the RC1. We didn't really loose
time in development as we checked in almost everything that came in during
the time we waited for the fixes - this includes e.g. kernel 3.1rc7. But we
can't hold the schedule as it is - the original deadline for RC1 checkins is
october 7th - that's around 4 days after public announcment of the beta
and even before the pizza party.
With the new factory work flow we have some more flexibility in terms of
checkin deadlines, so let's make use of that. My proposal would be:
Move RC1 from October 13th to 21st for release date - checkin deadline
would be 18th.
Move RC2 from October 27th to November 3th - checkin deadline would be
October 28th (November 1st and the monday in front are blackout in Nuremberg
and we rely too much on Nuremberg to move the date where it's perfect ;( )
Move Final release from November 11th (who set that date anyway? :) to
November 16th. GM would be on 11th.
Note, that I don't want to move the final date too much and if we all agree to
some discipline, RC2 will already be perfect and we only apply some polishing
up to GM. I know that shuffles our usual weekdays for release a bit and I'm
pretty sure I made some mistakes in my proposal, so please feel free to
give ideas of yours.
Greetings, Stephan
