We are in the process creating branches: https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n/branches/SLE10SP1 For SLE10 SP1 https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n/branches/openSUSE-10_2-Branch For openSUSE 10.2 Thus far, none of these branches is open for check-ins. If you want to fix anything 10.2 related, just use the trunk as during the last months. In case of serious ("critical") issues of which you want to see an online update, create a bugzilla entry as well. Most of the translation iusses are by definition not "critical", so do not be disappointed if we cannot release on official update. [opensuse-translation] Translation Update for SLE10 SP1 and Forthcoming openSUSE 10.3

We (Novell Globalization Services [Dublin]) are working on translation updates and several new translations for SLE10 SP1. We will submit these translations to the SLE10SP1 branch of the forge repository at https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/suse-i18n . For SP1, we cannot accept additional translations done but community members. So I'd like to ask you not to touch the SLE10SP1. When the SP1 translations are done, we want to promote them to the trunk of the SVN and thus they will become available for openSUSE 10.3. This will be a strong push for languages such as Arabian, Catalan, some Indian and South African languages. This also mean that you should save your time now to avoid work duplication. You don't want to translate files such as zypper, rug, or zmd twice. Thus far it is undecided, whether we should just add the new translations the trunk or whether we also want to override existing translations with those done in the SLE10SP1 branch. I've noticed a few things that strike me as a little strange, but I'm not sure if they are intended, so I'll ask here before I get my bugzilla on. Installing from kde-cd grub/bootloader is not translated, even after selecting Danish in my case. Bug? or intended due to space restrictions? During installation YaST is (almost) fully localized. Only two things stood out. The "release notes" tab in the package installation step was not translated. And neither was the slideshow - bug? or space issue? From what I understand for Russian the slideshow was partly localized when installing from 1-cd. Some positive feedback.. When selecting Danish in grub and adding the online repos, the translations are automatically selected and installed. Very nice. I'm checking the status of translation on the page: http://i18n.opensuse.org/stats/trunk/sk/lcn/index.php For example bootloader.sk.po is on the page 89 % translated, but in svn it's 100% translated. Is the statistics generated with delay or where is the problem? I would like to rely on those statistics. Thanks. [opensuse-translation] My stats project

I've already told some of you that I'm a stat whore. I found the official stats page to be updated to seldom. Therefore I honed my bash skills and made a Munin plugin (http://munin.sf.net) for graphing stats every 5 minutes. This was a bit heavy, so after some hours, I changed approach and made a proxy that calculate stats every 30 minutes. As there is 54 languages and percentage is spread between 0 and 100%, the graph became to difficult to read. I once more took out bash and made my own cron job to just make a top 10 graph on the last 24 hours. The calculation script calculated the total possible msgstr's from the template files (pots) and as an additional service, I made a script that shows what po-files for each team that have a difference in translated strings and the expected number of strings from the pot. This is not implemented into the calculation, and only run every 2nd hour. The Danes is so proud of always being in 1st place (when they have 100%) due to alphabetical sorting of language names, so I've implemented a "fair" (read random) ordering when ever two teams have the same percentage. hello All, I've got a strange feeling that we are translating some terms back and forth. Last changes in packager.po were mostly changing terminology from "repository" to "installation source". I remember however that I translated in first round some strings from "installation source" and "catalog" to "repository". Is it only my false impression or is it really so? Some say "If the country is the default one for this language (e.g. Italy is default country for Italian), then the country part and underscore preceding it should be omitted -- this is, in fact, the most common case." What is the exact code i should always use for National (Portugal) PT? ATM, the merge is running for the 2nd translation round. End ot this round is scheduled for next Friday, August 17. I'm inclined to ask for extending this period; please, tell, wether you think more time is required. In LCN, we will see some more zypper updates the next time. Also, update-desktop-files is a candidate for updates. RELEASE-NOTES, as you probably know, will come later. In YaST, we are trying to proofread some modules, so be prepared to solve some more fuzzies. I guess, ftp-server, package management related modules, sshd, and OneClickInstall are candidates. LCN is already merged, yast is still running. Please report problems, as soon as you see something strange. Hallo zusammen, da ja mittlerweile eine kleine Gruppe von Entwicklern zusammengekommen ist und Karl - der eigentlich prädestiniert für diesen Job wäre - ablehnt, da er bei Suse arbeitet, ist diese Stelle immernoch vakant. Im Prinzip reizt mich dieser Job, allerdings kann ich schwer abschätzen, welchen Zeitaufwand der Job zukünftig mit sich bringt. Deshalb zögere ich. Zu meiner Qualifikation: Ich arbeite seit ca. 8 Jahren als Software-Entwickler im Web-Umfeld (Java, JavaScript, PHP, XML, CSS) und seit geraumer Zeit auch als Teamleiter der Software-Entwicklung bei meinem jetzigen Arbeitgeber. Dort zeichne ich mich für knappe 10 Personen verantwortlich. Insofern verstehe ich mich schon darauf, ein Team zu koordinieren. Auch Werkzeuge wie SVN sind mein tägliches Brot in der Firma. Allerdings weiß ich aus der Erfahrung früherer Webprojekte, dass es bisweilen recht schwierig und fordernd sein kann, eine lose Gruppe zu koordinieren und zu motivieren. Denn genau das erachte ich als die Hauptaufgabe eines Teamleiters. Hinzu kommt, dass ich dieser Gruppe hier auch erst seit wenigen Tagen angehöre und mich selbst noch etwas reinfinden muss. Dennoch möchte ich mich gerne als Teamleiter anbieten um zu sehen, ob ich mit der Gruppe (und die Gruppe mit mir *G*) zurechtkomme. Als Kapital kann ich ca. 8 Stunden pro Woche in das Projekt einfließen lassen (+ Teilnahme an der Mailingliste während meiner Arbeitszeit) Dann muss sich zeigen, ob ich mit dieser Zeit auskomme oder ob eine andere Lösung gefunden werden muss. Zudem möchte ich - vorausgesetzt, ihr unterstützt meine Kandidatur - Karl darum bitten, mich in der Anfangsphase bei aufkeimenden Fragen mit Rat und Tat zu unterstützen. Wie soll eine Wahl nun ablaufen? Mit dem üblichen (+1/-1/0) in der Mailingliste bzw. Wiki oder sollen wir irgendwo einen Poll aufsetzen? Hello colleagues! Let me first thank you and tell you that we really appreciate your contribution! As we had opened up the localization process for 8 of the languages (PFIGS and JCC). We would like to share with all the volunteers subscribed to the opensuse-translation mailing list some of the resources we think might help you during your translation's efforts. Terminology: We would like to suggest to standardize as much as your language allows it. We recommend to use the approved terminology from our terminology database, or industry standard terminology as used in your own locales. www.novellglossaries.com username: guest password: guest (This allows View rights, once in there, select your language and look for any terminology) *** *** If you need translator's rights, please, let us know and we will provide that to you. We would like for you to start adding translations for your language if a source term does not contain a translation already, and maybe this can be done after this product is released. Also, if you see any issue or missing terminology, please let us know so we can fix it. Some tips or suggestions for Spanish, Portuguese translator' volunteers: Spanish: Novell does not have nor support different Spanish flavours. We used what is known in the IT industry as 'International, standard, Mid-Atlantic Spanish' doing this we avoid the use of terms that are exclusively known and used in the Iberian Peninsula and/or Latin America, for e.g. we do not use 'ordenador, computadora, fichero, etc.' and we follow the RAE (Royal Spanish Academy of the Language) rules and recommendations when it comes to writing Spanish. For more information or when in doubt check iTerm or mail me directly and I will be happy to provide more details. Portuguese: Novell's understands the differences between Brazilian PT and National (Portugal) PT. Brazilian Portuguese is the language into which most Novell's products are officially localized. [opensuse-translation] update-desktop-files syntax errors

I submitted yesterday a partial italian translation of the update-desktop-file but it seems it contains syntax errors. I'm using a suggested tool to translate (poedit) which complains about a long list of duplicate strings, and the same does kbabel. How can I fix these issues? I'm using SLED 10, with gettext-0.14.5-13.2, kdesdk3-3.5.1-17.2 and poedit-1.3.7-1. Discussing in IRC, I discovered that this particular file uses a more recent format than the others, and that some tools are not compatible. This should clearly be state on the wiki, removing the not compatible tools or at least specifying what versions are supporting the format. In update-desktop-files we now use the new enhanced PO file format: #: /opt/kde3/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/zoom.desktop msgctxt "Name(zoom.desktop)" msgid "Setup..." msgstr "" "msgctxt" is an additional field that contains context information. It is read-only, you must not translate it. Just translate the msgid and enter the translation into the msgstr field. Some tools do not understand this format (Emacs/po-mode). [opensuse-translation] Is the Stastics page accurate?

Hi all, I'm currently working on zh_CN trunk translation of openSUSE 10.3 but noticed something strange on the Stastics page: http://i18n.opensuse.org/stats/trunk/index.php Yesterday I translated hundersds of entries (both fuzzy & untranslated) and submitted them through svn. And today I noticed a dramatic drop of translated proportion. From 88% to 70%. Comparing with that of yestoday, the total number increased by less than 100 because of a merge. It was 291xx yesterday. now 29159. The fussy number keeps still-1100 yesterday, 1100 today. The untranslated number increased significantly. I doubt if it identifies all my work as untranslated though I have not carried out a manual calculation. So I wonder if it is accurate or it is me who messed it up. Please have a check on the reason. If it is the latter one, please tell me and I'll check and fix. [opensuse-translation] joining the German translation team

Hi, I would like to join the German translation team. On the openSUSE i18n website (http://en.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE_Localization_Teams) I leared that "Novell Globalization Services" is the German team coordinator. How can I join the team? In the mailinglist archive told me, that I need a Novell account and a Novell wiki page. Hello, I would like to state once more that the Greek Team, despite of its very good looking (YaST is translated more than 90%), its in a downfall... Currently two people working (me and one more person), and even that its not very effective, since i am having some family issues to attend to and the other guy got universitys' exams. In case of someone of you knows some greek person, please tell him/her to contact with me. Its important. [opensuse-translation] Wrong filename under (almost) all i18n-*

Hi all, Yesterday a new weird file came up to the stats page (http://i18n.opensuse.org/stats/trunk/toplist.php) - xen-vm-install.pot - and till now it's there for a while but not in svn repo and the correct filename should be xen-vm-install.LANG.po instead, right?! Don't know why but seems that the Polish team just copied that file, renamed it to xen-vm-install.pl.po, translated and commited it.
