[SLE] Mirroring the KDE: repository

Hello, in my LAN I have several SUSE Linux 10.1 workstations (around 20) whose owners I managed to try Linux full time. In order to make my life easier (and reduce bandwidth costs) I have made a local installation server and a local update server, which I rsync daily. All the workstations now update perfectly and life is good. Now, I would like to offer the KDE repository (you know, the one with KDE 3.5.3) but I'd like this repository to stay updated, thus, a good candidate for rsync. But I haven't found a rsync-enabled server (or mirror) for this repository. I there such a thing? [SLE] Backing Out Kernel Update

Is there a way to back out a kernel update as applied via YOU? Whenever I update the kernel I need to re-install VMWare and the NVIDIA driver. This has always worked well for me in the past but it always makes me nervous. I'd feel better if I knew how to back it out. I have 9.3. [SLE] invisible kdar

I just installed kdar (via YaST) and ran it from the SUSE System/Backup menu. Nothing shows up on screen! There is a kdar process running. strace -p shows: read(9, Anybody have any idea what the problem is? I'm running SUSE 9.3 with a Gnome/Metacity desktop. Hi, I am running a program called rundns, which checks my dymanic ip address and adjusts it to keep my domain name pointed to my ip. I'd like to have it run on boot to runlevels 3 & 5. I downloaded a script from the developer's web site and advised me to place it in /etc/init./rc3.d and rc5.d respectively. Problem is that dosen't seem to work. The script is called S98rundns and has permissions of -rwxr-xr-x. I notice that most other scripts here are links to other files, but not sure how to set this up. In any case rundns does not run on boot to runlevel 5, or init 3. It shows as a failed service. The rundns binary is in /usr/bin and works find when started with the command line. Looking at the running programs on htop I found that Zenupdater (root) and zmd (user) are both exe files. zmd.exe is in --sleep-resume mode but I am a little bit troubled to find exe files in my standard 10.1 Suse. [opensuse] Help, can I trust ZEN

I did an update with ZEN some days ago, and it broke my system. Zen killed my X system, I running a 10.1 with a Nvidia card. I have tried to ask in this list, but no one have replayed. I have managed to get my X to work, but I still have problem with sound, it a bit choppy, work fine when I play cd, if I try to play a MP3 file, it is choppy, streaming audio with Amarok, the sound is choppy, when I log in to KDE, the start sound is playing its startup sound much longer then it used to do. Now ZEN is telling my that there are 34 new updates ready, several X files. If I start the update, my system will break again. [SLE] Installing package to another box

Hi all, I've got this situation. We are beginning to use Suse10.1 on our customer service pc at our branches. However they are only allowed to connect to the intranet not internet. So, they cannot use Yast to install packages. So, the problem is, I need to install additional packages such as libxine to play movies on those computers. I can download and install the packages using Yast on my Suse10.1 notebook. Can I copy the downloaded packages from my notebook to those computers and then use the rpm -Uvh command? Where are the packages downloaded by Yast? Hi All, Before switching to Linux I was very very used to winamp and it's Global Hotkeys. So I could easily do my work and, for example, change song without being forced to switch to winamps window. XMMS replaced nearly all features I have been used in Winamp, but I still very very miss GH feature. Is there any plugin, or maybe it could be done with shell scripting? [SLE] SLED 10 and multimedia files

Hi all, After some time trying to go ahead with a Open SuSE 10.1 installation I've subscribed SLED 10 hoping it will help me to softer start in this, for me, new Linux arena. Well, it seems it solves some problems, but a number of other issues remain unsolved. First of all, please, does this list also deal with SLED 10 issues? If yes, please, does anybody manage to play AVI, WMV or MPEG files with Totem? I've downloaded and copied the content of the MPlayer essential codecs package to /user/lib/codecs but Totem keeps claiming that I've no decoder installed for this codecs. [SLE] General question about the rescue system

Used to be that if you wanted to do major things to your normal system while it was 'broken', you could: 1) boot the rescue system from CD or DVD 1 2) mount your root partition on /mnt 3) chroot /mnt 4) Mount your boot partition on /boot and there you would for most purposes have your running system. You could change your fstab or re-install grub or whatever that might be needed. However, with 10.1 and the udev system, the devices are no longer available to you after the chroot. If you do the first 3 steps above, there is no way to do step 4 because there are no hard drives 'seen' by the system. Their definitions are all left behind in the /dev/ of the rescue system. Is there a way around this? One could copy the /dev from the rescue system to the normal system but I am not sure that would work or whether it would be a good idea. A quick look in the starter manual shows no reference to the rescue system. On a 'lab rat', I just did copy the /dev/* from the rescue system over to the normal system (savi9ng the normal /dev first) and it *does* work. [SLE] 10.1 Rescue system

I have been wondering why my 10.1 rescue wouldn't recognize my raid1 partitions, and after Bruce's email I decided to try again. I then realized udev probably wasn't my problem. It doesn't recognize any md device. i then decided to look around, and found out (what may be) the problem, but I need some help to make sure it is a genuine bug before I report it, since my DVD is made by the makeSUSEdvd script from the 6 CD isos, though I seriously doubt that would change this. Anyway, could someone else please check if they have /etc/init.d/boot.md in their rescue system? I just checked my working 9.3 DVD and it does have boot.md. [opensuse] Problem after upgrade

I have got my system back to work, and Nvidia driver are working again, BUT the sound on my system is choppy, it is not playing any loop, but is is more like a hickup, And it is at the start of a tune, and one here and there in the song. I have tried to install alsa, install my soundcard , but the sound is Choppy. Any idea out there. [SLE] zmd error message at login

Hello all: I have disabled zmd (novell-zmd) in YaST/System/System services. Since that I alway get an error message when I login to my kde desktop. The message window is titled "Software updater error" and it says: "zmd does not appear to be running". This is normal since zmd is disabled but I would like to get rid of this message popping up again and again. I've checked the kde control center/kde components/service manager whether I can turn off something related to zmd but I could not find what to turn off (if there is something there at all). How could I get rid of this message and disable software updater for my kde session? [opensuse] problems after update

I cant get my opensuse 10.1 to start after last ZEN? update last night.. It will not start the X server,. If I try to start yast or sax2, it stop and I get no any longer. Can you somehow roll back to the working config. I have nvidia card, and the system was ok until I did the updating. [SLE] Good Sturdy Email Client- wanting recomendations

Hi All, One of the things that have prevented me from moving from windows to Linux is having the email client, evolution crash all the time with the volume of email I have. My total email volume is about 800-1000 emails per day, most of them from lists and are directed to folders. After I have about 2 thousand or so emails Evolution starts behaving badly, in it crashes and freezes. Well the last time I tried to migrate about 2 years ago it did. I have a total of 4.9G in Outlook public folders, which i will want to convert across. Can anyone reccomend a good GUI email client which will be sturdy enough to cope with high volumes of email, and has the ability to cope with automatic rules for forwarding the mail. I have purchased a copy of Crossover office pro to allow for me to run outlook if necessary, but would rather not have to use that. [SLE] SuSEfirewall2 & dmesg

Since I started running SuSEfirewall2, it constantly logs to the dmesg buffer, making dmesg pretty much useless for anything other than looking at iptables logs. I can look at that in syslog. I'd like my dmesg buffer back. Is there a way to configure SuSEfirewall2 to not send stuff into the dmesg buffer but instead only log to /var/log/messages? I looked in /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall but didn't see in there how to accomplish this. Hello, Today I came across of rather perplexing feature (or something else) i can not get it. If a regular user opens floppy it gets mounted with the following permissions: rwx r-x r-x So far so good, but if a 'root' issues 'chmod 666', permissions change to: rw- r-- r-- So the root can not give the group write permission (the same for the other). In this case the root is not an almighty one !! Any clue ? Thanks. [SLE] stupid IPv6 question: can we replace NAT with IPv6? (perhaps OT)

Hello. In the office we only have two public IP addresses, one for a file server and the other for NAT firewall (which is a linux host too). This is not so convenient because it's not possible to access hosts behind firewall without portmaping, and portmaping isn't convenient (e.g. for using tel-conference). I read a lot of IPv6 articles but they all seems to be written for very skilled person to read, I still cannot figure out if it is possible to solve our problem (too many portmapping) by using IPv6. Is it possible the office assign each desktop computer an IPv6 address, and replace NAT with something else, and solve our problem? All desktops are SuSE Linux, may be there could be one or two Windows XP box. Is it possible to use IPv6 when the ISP don't support IPv6? Is using IPv6 going to make our network slower? Sorry for this newbie and OT question, simply I think people here might knows. The "possibility" information is important to me, so that I can talk to the administrator and ask him to dig into how to do it (he is interested in if this is possible too). I'm setting up a SUSE 10.1 box with Squirrelmail and noticed there was not an RPM on the CDs (I don't have a dvd drive so I just downloaded the cds). It appears the Squirrelmail RPM is only on the dvds. Is there someplace I can download the SUSE 10.1 Squirrelmail RPM from? A quick google search didn't show anything. I'm migrating to SUSE 10.1 64-bit, on my 10.0 32-bit system everything worked fine. I installed Cyrus IMAP. The Cyrus side is working fine, I'm connected and I have transferred my emails from my old server. I set up in the MTA in YaST my accounts and set it to transfer the email to Cyrus. I went to a seminar a couple years ago when Novell first bought Suse. They were talking about a Zero Day Start and Zero Day Stop program under Novell. [SLE] roaming profiles ?

I am in a situation where "roaming profiles" are required (11 machines), so that the desktop settings etc move with the user, i.e. the user expects his desktop on whichever workstation he logs in. I was thinking that the easiest way would be to put /home on the server and do an nfs mount at login. Unfortunately the environment is a bit more complex, the clients run different linuxes, currently there are SuSE Linux V8.2, SuSE Linux V9.1, SuSE Linux V9.2, Ubuntu 6.06 and Fedora workstations. I can't see how "roaming profiles" could easily be realised in such an environment, the question is can it be done without too much effort? [SLE] My /tmp is growing daily

Starting as abnormal directory my /tmp grows fast until it was again some 5017600 bytes. When I want to look into this directory with midnight commander it takes its time to open the directory and what I found that apart from some other directories, there where 124830 alsa-dmix-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxx-xxxxxx files all o byte. These files only took 11 bytes together but I suppose that just the administration of 124830 files takes a lot of place. This alsa-dmix zero file is made sometimes twenty or more times in a minute. Could somebody explain what is happening? [SLE] Installing 10.2 on External USB hard drive

Since most computers now can boot from external USB hard drives, I have always wanted to try installing a distribution on one. Theoretically you could do this and take your software setup with you to any new computer as long as you had generic video drivers or ran YAST and Sax2 in failsafe mode at the start. Suse 10.1 would install on my external USB hard drive but it was touchy in failsafe mode. The Suse 10.2 Alpha 2 installed without a problem on the external drive. I know that you have to install it in text mode but this acutally sped up the installation process. The installation boots up without a problem and runs exceptionally fast with the USB connection to the computer. The only issues that I have hit are that even though the GRUB menu lists the Suse 10.1 and Windows installation on my main hard drive, they will not boot properly. To run these, I either have to turn off the USB hard drive or select to boot the main hard drive from my BIOS settings at boot time. Also since there are no update servers for 10.2 Alpha 2, I had to set up the YAST repositories on my own and I also used the Smart program manager to get upgrades. The add on package from Labix is essential for this as it lists almost all the reposoitories. As always, Xgl takes a little time to set up but my windows are back to wobbling again. Overall, the 10.2 Alpha 2 installation works very well and seems to be more stable to me than the 10.1 installation. It looks like Suse is on the right track again. When 10.2 hits the Final Release phase, it should be a killer OS. I would like to use samba on my linux machine to share files to my window client. My goal is for my wireless XP laptop to see a network folder in which XP files can be backed up and also serve to transfer data between XP and linux. I currently have samba sharing my local printer with the laptop. My machine has three hard drives hda (windows NT), hdb (suse 10.1), hdd (new 120 GB drive). The new drive is 1 big ntfs partition. I would like to repartition to: hdd1 (partition to share, 20G) hdd2 (reiserfs for local linux backup, 40G) hdd3 (60G for testing additional linux distros) What format should I used for the shared partition. fdisk shows multible ids for ntfs, which one is correct? I'm guessing id = 7. I would also like to write to this partition. Can linux write ntfs yet? Any Samba hints would also be appreciated. I tried to update suse 10.1 with yast and failed miserably. I Installed smart, and gave a system update. Patches were downloaded for about 4 hours and in the end it popped a message saying some packages couldn't be retrieved(lots of packages were downloaded). Nothing happened after that, how do I make sure all the patches were installed properly? No messages or logs were given. What happened to the downloaded patches? The Smart website is at http://labix.org/smart The important thing to remember when updating using Smart is to first do a "smart update" followed by a "smart ugrade". If you don't do the "smart update" first, you will not get the current updates and then "smart upgrade" does the actual "update" Now the your mileage may vary. Smart is beta, not final product and there are some chinks in the armour already showing. First off, while Smart is like YOU on steroids (or YUM on Fedora), it is realatively fast but here is its downside. In order to decide which package update in which repo is best, it downloads tons of package updates which it "sorts" through and then installs the best "fit" of packages for your system; this extra downloading comes at a price of time. Second, Smart has not been consistent in updating when compared with YOU. Tonight, as an example, YOU had 5 packages for updating where Smart only knew about 3 of the updates. I used YOU to update my system. Third, I also have a Fedora Core 5 system which I tested Smart on; it did not pickup my Livna repo which YUM does so I am sticking with YUM there. Smart is definitely work in progress as Beta but you'll want to check it against YOU or YUM before taking anything to the bank. YOU is working pretty well for me. Clint

Hi, This is 2 days I have installed Suse 10.2 Alpha 2...and because of some error the KDM login screen is coming back again and again as i try to login as ordinary user `digz'.First the autologin failed and then on manually entering username/password..the login screen comes back repeatedly. The user root is able to login and KDE starts. [opensuse] compiz/xgl curve ball

I love the new 10.1, i got the highest end nvidia just for it, and compiz kicks ass. Here is my problem, I have no preference between KDE and Gnome as long as they can do the basic stuff i need, and with alot of mono stuff i do, gnome is the better choice, but i have been a kde user up until now. One thing i use with KDE that i really NEED is window placement, i have dual monitor set up, and popups just some up smack dab in the middle of the frame borders between the monitors, in KDE i could go into advanced settings and alter this, by specifing the it remember the position. Also i use slickedit and want its windows to be arranged specifically to when they come up. Now i love compiz/gnome but i can't figure out in gnome how to get this simple feature? i went to KDE/compiz, but compiz (when started) removes the menu (on the window frames) that allows the selection of advanced options. So have i really lost this important feature by now having jumped to compiz? i have googled and found nothing about this, probably because compiz is so new. Would it be hard to add to gnome, something that just said, hey check this app-name window title against a list, and if its there place it at a certain position and size on the screen? My system is a tyan dual opteron with 9GB a RAM and one thing i am finding is that compiz crashes 1-2 times a day, so i have a window that just issues compiz --replace gconf and this little annoyance actually hardly bothers me, i am thinking since 386-x64 is a pretty rare platform still, that it will not be a reliable as 386-32? I also find amarok crashes just about everytime i do something to it, i.e. about 50 times a day, but its an immediate restart and it doesn't do it again (immediately anyways). Since i jumped to 10.1 (compiz) and dual opteron at the same time, unfortunelty i dont know what is more to blame. I am going to buy SLED 10 anyways cause i want the legal mp3 stuff included. I need to also figure out how to set up a chroot for mplayer (other media) to still use win32.dll's for codec's. Any advise, links would be appreciated. Man, for a non-techy user, linux would be a real bitch and a half to people running new amd 64bit systems, if they need wmv support :( My beef about SUSE is the people griping about package management slowness ... i mean, how many times do you update packages, and can one not multitask? i think before people pick on something that might have them waiting 1/2 hour? for an entire year? they might want to optimize their email experience that they use many 10's of times a day, this whole "suse is crap because package managment takes an extra 1 min." is just so idiotic. .. just flip screens and do something else while you wait, or go grab a drink, its not like you have to do it alot! I am a developer,and i package manage about once per day, and i set it to do its thing, and them i am off doing something else - i can multitask!!! After I wrote this earlier note about SuSE knowing about the Samba updates and two others, the next day it had "forgotten" about Samba updates and only indicated that something called kippi-plugins (for kde) were available. I then ended up using Smart to do the Samba updates and SuSE to do the kippi ones but then SuSE "failed" to do the kippi (probably a repo issue), but when I tried again the next morning, it worked but asked for my DVD (which DVD did I use), after trying a couple DVDs, SuSE was sort of happy with the second and "finished" the update but with an error (didn't pay a lot of attention to this) and now the SuSE update watcher is happy with no updates available. As to YUM, I think my last update broke my FC5 laptop as it seems to lock up now, solid, and I have to shut it down for a reboot. It doesn't know it locked up, that is how hard the lock up is. I have used Synaptics as well but found inconsistencies there as well. My approach is to basically use one update tool as primary but compare it's findings with the others, then pick and choose. [SLE] Possibly defective Linux Magazine Suse 10.1 DVD

I received the Suse 10.1 DVD with a Linux Magazine recently, and upon attempting to install, I received three 'error reading sector' messaged. When I reported this to the magazine, I got a message explaining the the problem is usually related to the installation, not the media. She (Olga) made no reference to the three "error reading" sectors I cited by number. In any event, she suggested that I copy all of the files to my hard drive. If I were in 4DOS, no problem. No so in linux. Can someone give the the command line to copy all of the files, including in directories, hidden, and whatever, so I have all of the files on the hard disk. [SLE] Not SUSE-related - serial port on a Compaq 8-port SAN-switch?

All, I'm trying to connect to a Compaq StorageWorks SAN Switch 8 over the serial port, that is using a null-modem cable. And I'm not getting anywhere. I use minicom on the host system, have tried all the baudrates, played with hardware and software flowcontrol, but I'm just not getting anything from the switch. I've been googling a lot and haven't really come up with anything solid. I've even got the switch manuals, but they don't say else besides "connect the serial cable". Hi, In KDE it's very simple, just go to control center, Regional & Accessibility, Country/Region & Language, and you can customise number format, currency and everything But how on earth do I do it in gnome? I've been looking all over the system and I just can't find it. Is this another usability thing, where users might get confused if they're allowed to use their own currency symbols? Hello. The good-old IDE-to-USB box I had works fine on Windows XP, but I cannot make it work in SuSE 10.1. The device is just tested on WinXP one minute ago, both read/write have no problem. [SLE] 20' TFT Belinea 16/10 format installation

Hi all, I have two identical PC's. One I installed with SUSE 10.1 purchased boxed Novell version with a 19" TFT attached. Later I got a Belinea 20" TFT 102035W 16/10 format. I looked in the hardware side of yast for a suitable driver and could only find the Belinea 102030 with the nearest config. It sort of worked, requiring after the screen saver came on, that the automatic adjust button be pressed to get it from displaying the bottom right hand quarter in the top left hand quarter to shift to a full screen. Today I installed SUSE 10.1 on the same hardware on PC Nr2 (this time with the 20" 201035W attached though) and when a monitor was selected, it offered MAX Belinea 102035W; exactly the right monitor! Having never seen this driver before, I looked at the first system I installed - there is no such entry in the hardware list for MAX monitors (should be between MAXTECH and MEDION as it is in today's installation). Where did the identical hardware (but with the new 102035W TFT attached) and software new installation get the driver from. I used to be quite good with samba, but the fast evolution of the two last years may have been too fast for me; I have samba perferctly running on my 10.1 workstation, but I can't achieve to make it work on my server. I have no file to share, but a printer. The printer works perfectly as cups for a linux client, but I can't make it work for a XP client. in fact my server is impossible to see on the smb share, nor from kde nor from XP. I have exactly the same smb.conf file for this server (not working 10.0) and for the desktop (perfectly working-10.1) in both cases I have a samba user (same one, same id and passwd) any idea? what Can I give to help? Hi, The Kingston DataTraveler II USB flash drive works OK with some computers and doesn't work with some others. Does anybody have an idea what is wrong and how to fix it? [SLE] 10.2 Alpha 2 install time partitioner fails repeatedly

Hi all, This is related to an installation issue with Yast2 partitioner in 10.2 Alpha 2. The install process hangs when trying to format newly created partitions with reiser4. I tried all different combinations each time the partitions got created but the formatting never went through...finally I fdisked myself and used mkreiserfs to do it..and then asked Yast to install without formatting the disk,which worked..Have alpha 2 users observed this...is it a BUG..if it is then is there anyway i can get yast logs during install time....?Why I am insisting is because ..i tried 7 times failing each time before manual fdisk -mkreiser intervention.. I have a strange problem with a migration from php4 to php5 on a suse 10.0 I run mediawiki 1.6 and want to run 1.7 that needs php 5. 4 days ago I went to yast, search for php5 and installed it. Accept all by default and install. all went well (mediawiki runned as usual. today, coming back home one hour ago I had a letter from an user saying the wiki didn't work (he had the index source in place of the html). _I_ have error 404 here: http://dodin.org/mediawiki/index.php/Accueil however trust me, the file exists :-() I tried php -v and got php4! returned to yast and uninstalled all the php4 stuff (and installed all what I could find as php5) I can no more run php from console. Hello all: When I have filenames like these: name.ps, name-a.ps, name_a.ps, name_1.ps and nam.ps, and I list them alphabetically (by name) in konqueror or do an ls -l in a terminal window, they are sorted in this order: name_1.ps name_a.ps name-a.ps name.ps nam.ps which seems silly to me. I would like them to be listed as nam.ps name.ps name_1.ps name_a.ps name-a.ps How could I have them listed like that? I am trying to migrate the users from a suse 9.1 box to 10.1. The problem I am having is with samba. 9.1 uses samba 2.2 and 10.1 uses 3.0. When I try to change a password for a 9.1 user I get this error message mod_smbfilepwd_entry: Using old smbpasswd format for user jstuart. This is no longer supported.! mod_smbfilepwd_entry: No changes made, failing.! smbpasswd_update_sam_account: mod_smbfilepwd_entry failed! Failed to modify entry for user jstuart. Greets; Have run ltmodem with all SuSe distro's to get softmodem working to send out faxes. However with 10.1 this is no longer supplied. Anyone have any idea's on how to get the modem up and running under 10.1 that would allow for incomming and out going faxes. Hey, all -- I've been playing around with Xen, and am now working on a script that will create Xen hosts as needed. These hosts are going to be more or less exact copies of a single master, with testing versions of a couple of applications installed in addition. I'm using LVM's snapshot capability to create snapshots of the master, rather than copying it. That saves some space, and makes management easier. Hello I have setup suse 10.1 w/ xen, when I boot dom0 I can't NOT ping or access any network resource, I can do an arp -n and see the mac address of the router - it also is picking up an address via DHCP - so I think its firewall related but I have flushed all the tables and still no ping/web/etc When I install a dom1(win2k3) I can get past the router and also access dom0 Any ideas? [SLE] Home made NAS with SUSE - filesystem questions

Hi! I'm planning to build a home made NAS using old harware and SUSE. SUSE might not be the best OS for this, but it's the only Linux I have administered at least somewhat. Ok, what I'm thinking is a old PC with lot's of old disks inside and a gigabit ethernet (planning to do video editing over it also). I have two questions 1) How to set up the disk system? What I'm thinking is that as I have pairs of old PATA disks (not identical, but with the same size) I could set up multiple mirrored sets and then combine these with LVM to one large volume. This way, if I loose one of the old disks, I do not loose data. BUT the thing that I'm worried about is... with LVM I can add more disks to the volume later on. But if I loose one of the old disks from one of the mirrors, I would not buy the same kind of disk again - instead, I would have to remove the other part of the mirror too so that the data is moved to the remaining good mirrors. After a while, I would be replacing the PATA mirrors with SATA drives in RAID-5. (Maybe after two years) Is it possible - also in practice - to remove disks from LVM group so that the data is kept on the remaining disks? Does this depend on the file system? Which file system should I use? 2) How to set up SUSE for that kind of use - but this is a longer story and if you have some small hints, I'm interested, but otherwise, let's get back to this some other time. (I always, hope they would define more predefined package groups for installation time, like Desktop with KDE, laptop with KDE, server with minimal KDE...) I've installed the ipw3924d package to support my wireless card. It seems to configure properly but still won't communicate. Wired interface works fine. I even turned off authentication and encryption to run the AP wide open. Is it necessary to explicitly specify that the wireless interface is to be used rather than the wired interface? Thanks! Doug

I'm using SUSE 10.1 freshly installed. I have a spare disk for my laptop I use for vetting new distributions before placing them into production of any sort. So I simply reformat the disk and go. I have a Sony VAIO PCG GR100K with the Radeon MobiliTY video chip and a 1400x1050 screen. Most everything works except that when I set up for a proper full screen mode with an external monitor attached the mouse pointer bounces or jutters vertically. Is there a known solution for this? I also have a D-Link DWL-AG660 Wireless card. I can get to the point of entering the shared secret for the network (needed so that the various laptops can see each other easily) and it rejects the 32 hex character long key that the network uses no matter how I enter it, spaces or hyphens breaking it up or nothing breaking it up. It always says the passphrase is not acceptable. Are 156 bit keys not allowed even though the help along side the YaST configuration panel seems to indicate they are? (And is there a prayer that the actual drivers to make it work are present on the system? [SLE] X terminal VOIP solution question again

Hello. Last time I asked on this list how to make our X-terminal box users enjoy VOIP. The X-terminal boxes all are actually weak computers equipped with sound card, running Linux, the X-terminal server is SuSE 10.1 on a powerful host down the hall. The conclusion is I can run Skype locally (on X-terminal). The users use 'ssh -Y x-terminal-box skype' to get the user interface. This worked a while, until now we discovered the X-terminals are simply not powerful enough to run skype. The CPU usage is 50% averagely but on peak it require more then 100% computation power, making voice sounds broken. Idea: 1. is there a better replacement VOIP solution that use less CPU on the peak? 2. is there a better way around? e.g. running skype on the X-terminal server, where there are enough CPU resource, and deliver the voice through the network (like esound, enlightened sound daemon)? I think perhaps esound cannot handle microphone, is it? Hi, 1. any update version of suse firewall2 which come from opensuse 10.1? 2. how to allow certain IP on suse firewall2? currently sf2 only allow certain service on internal and external interface. i try to edit the sf2 config file, but after edit and i open "yast-firewall-save and start firewall" some modification break, some lines repeated ( i.e: config on section 16 is repeated and section 1 will deleted). i think i must edit the sf2 custom script but i don't know, can one give me example to allow certain ip and by default block any ip? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I have an RX620 which was working fine. It stopped working just before I went away for several weeks. I'm now back and have time to investigate why ... I don't remember changing anything, but of course it's too long ago to be sure! The RX620 is an all-in-one device. It still works free-standing and the scanner is still working with xsane and I can still see the card reader device, so the USB side of things is still working. When I try to print a test page from YaST I get a dialog box with the following text (it is really annoying that I can't copy and paste text in a dialog :): "An error ...
