[SLE] Global Hotkeys in XMMS
Hi All, Before switching to Linux I was very very used to winamp and it's Global Hotkeys. So I could easily do my work and, for example, change song without being forced to switch to winamps window. XMMS replaced nearly all features I have been used in Winamp, but I still very very miss GH feature. Is there any plugin, or maybe it could be done with shell scripting? Hi Sergey, I don't know if one exists, but a good place to check would be here: http://www.xmms.org/ hth & regards, Carl -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Hi Carl, I searched the site before posting that, but there is nothing appropriate. Google search brought me some package for Gnome in the Debian, but there was nothing for SuSE. Thanks anyway. -- Sergey Mkrtchyan Scientific Researcher Department Of Molecular Physics, Faculty Of Physics, Yerevan State University -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Consider either Sven or lineak. Both will allow you to map "extra or multi-media" keys to your application. Sven is currently being re-written from what I've been told, but an older stable version ought to do what you need. -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Hi Mike, Are these another multimedia players? or they are some programs which will allow me to control XMMS? Can you provide me some links? Hi Sergey, They are not media players, but programs that allow you to execute a program (et al.) given a particular key press or key press combinations. Lineak ships with 10.?, and you can use google.com/linux and look for Sven. There is a page of sorts for lineak on sourceforge with some decent info. Both of these programs allow you to use your extended or MultiMedia keys, if they are recognized by X. Some configuration is required of course. ;) -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Sorry, I don't know about XMMS, but when converted from Windows/WinAmp, I started using Amarok, which (after getting used to the differences) in my opinion is way superior (but your mileage may vary). It has global hotkeys defined for all common functions, and using DCOP and KDE, I have even added a few, like popping up the lyrics for the current song etc. But of course this doesn't answer your question, just a suggestion. Hi Marius, Thank you very much, actually I tried it, but XMMS seems to be simpler and more practical one, in my opinion of course, anyway if i will not find something for XMMS I will consider using amaroK again :) Regards, Sergey -- Sergey Mkrtchyan Scientific Researcher Department Of Molecular Physics, Faculty Of Physics, Yerevan State University -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
