Hi all,
Reading some mails on the GIMP mail list, I ran across the procedure
to install some more fonts for not only Gimp, but the system and
StarOffice to use also. Well, I installed the fonts, went to the
shell and issued the command xset fp+ <font directory> and then the
rehash command and all fonts are there! Ok, that went well, but each
time I restart the system, I have to do it all over again? Is there
a way to make it permanent and read the new fonts like it does the
ones the system installs or is that a no-no?
end of line
Tracer
Shell commands:
xset fp+ <new font directory>
xset fp rehash

Hi:
I just bought this printer, thinking it would work right out of the box. I'm
running SUSE 9.3 with CUPS, and it does not seem to support this model.
Anybody got this printer to work? Any pointers would help.
Best regards.

Hello all,
I'm repeating this question and I'd really appreciate any help.
I cannot connect to a remote server via KDE Remote Desktop Connection
anymore. When trying, I got an error:
Connection failed, server does not accept new connections
On a server there is:
- no krfb processes
- netstat -anp | grep 590 returns:
tcp 0 0 :::5900 :::* LISTEN 2030/kdeinit: kded
therefore someone is waiting for connection
- this is SuSE 9.0
Is there a way to restart KDE's VNC on this server without restarting
KDE completely?
Thanks for any hint and best regards
Janko
Whenever I start my desktop (running OpenSuse 10.2 with XGL), it shows
the nVidia logo startup screen, then goes to this funky blue/black gdm
error message saying "There already appears to be an X server running on
display :0." And then it asks if it should try restarting X on
display :0 again. Whether I say Yes or No, the screen goes blank for a
second and then the normal gdm login screen comes up... it's very odd
b/c it works, but for some reason appears to be called too early or
something....
I've already tried just reinstalling gdm and xorg server packages...
Can anyone help me identify where I should fix this?

Hi all,
I have SuSE 10.2 installed, and have just noticed that if I present a slideshow in OpenOffice (the version bundled with 10.2) the thing "crashes" when you exit a slideshow. It's curious, it doesn't seem to die per se, nor do any damage, but it insists that it crashed and must recover the file. Maybe it really did crash, but the file didn't really need recovery, since no changed had been made. It doesn't (so far at least) seem to damage anything, but it's a bit odd, and slightly worrying. Does anyone else see this, or am I just "special" :)
Cheers,
Simon

Today was supposed to be the day for 10.2 beta 2 to
be released. So far I have not been able to locate it.
Does anyone have insight into when this will appear?
Cheers,
Bob
Hello SuSE people
Recently installed 10.2 on a new hard drive. Triple boot all on their own
harddrives.
I gave 10.2 a 3GB partition for /
I also made separate partitions for /tmp, /var, and /home, each 10GB in size.
I went to update 10.2 and was warned that the / partition is 97% full.
How can that be? Does everthing on the DVD install into / ??
Now, do I have to reinstall 10.2 after making the / partition much larger ??
Some please explain what the problem is here. Please ??

Hi all,
Hope someone can help me: I own a P4P800 Deluxe, with a ICH5R
chipset, a DVD+-RW Drive ( PATA ) and a HD ( SATA ).
When I select the install option, upon booting from the dvd, a while
later appears a message that says that it cannot find the dvd.
Also, the manual installation program claims that it cannot find any
dvd/cd-rom. The HD is detected though...
What can I do solve this. I'm running SuSE 10.1 like a charm...
Regards,
Rui Santos

I don't have 10.2 installed yet, so how would I check the MD5 checksum
using Windows XP?

Hi All,
I need to start synchronizing a 'live' website, nightly, with the 'master'
copy residing under ~/public_html/ on my local box.
I have user account level ssh access to the server and, when I log in, it
'lands' me at /home/user/ ('~/'), directly above the 'live' website directory
at ~/public_html/ (is symlinked to ~/www/).
I'm sure there are many people on this list who know how to do this. I *sort
of* know since I use rsync locally on a daily basis. However, the 'live' site
lives on a production box and just don't feel like experimenting. :-) Any
recommendations/advice on the correct syntax to use with rsync?
TIA & regards,
Carl
