Hi list,
speaking about software raid, not hardware controller based.
I am trying to go for some local OpenSuse machine and adding some
storage to it. Was considering Raid6, and now reading about a bit and
people left and right scaremongering about the larger the disks these
days in the double digit terabyte capacities even, the more likely it
is that during a reconstruction of a raid subsequent errors would
occur.
I would absolutely like to keep my data consistent, and I am not
thinking about double digit terabytes either, would stick to 2TB or
4TB disks, with Raid6 thats at least 4 physical drives.
Now I am wondering if it possible to use a good robust file system
that can add some more parity or check blocks or redundancy on top of
the hardware disks, to absolutely be able to always read my data.
I can't add multiple machines or like those high availability stuff
like clusters and what not I read about DRBD (Distributed Replicated
Block Device), or maybe I am just too scared by those technical terms
or consider myself to be just a simpleton and wanting to keep it
rather simple.
My use case here is also not constant availablity, when a disk needs
to be replaced, so be it, but I don't want to lose my data that I can
not ever read certain parts of it again or such stuff.
The thing that came to my mind was, if there is some file systems that
would add redundancy and robustness onto the mdraid system of the
linux kernel?
Anyone with some useful insights? Roughly speaking, I was considering
some simple pcie esata interfaced controller card and an external case
enclosure with esata port and portmulitplier stuff inside, that can
present at least 4 physical disks as JBOD, just a bunch of disks, so
that the Linux can seem them all separately.
Speed and rebuild times are not my concern, but data persistence and
data integrity. Not even number of physical disks, I could live with
even one of those 8 bay device enclosures and cases that are out there
on the market.

in the SuSE repositories for Leap 15 I only find
cura1-lulzbot
as software for 3D printing.
Slic3r ( https://slic3r.org/ ) or
repetier-host (https://www.repetier.com/download-now/ ) are not there.
Can I find these packages in another repo?
(I already had both running on an older SuSE machine by installing them from
scratch).

Hi all:
I have a question about some DNS querys/responses that continue after
the application that originally requested them is closed.
I am running Tumbleweed (20190426 snapshot)on x86_64, Firefox version
66.0.3.
The Setup: run Firefox and browse multiple sites. Close Firefox.
Open Wireshark. Note multiple DNS querys/responses are still being
made from/to some process (Firefox does not appear in a ps query)
related to the sites just visited.
In a recent test, I surfed to seven different websites in three minutes,
closed Firefox, opened Wireshark, and noticed 32 DNS queries and 32
responses, all related to sites I just visited (and their "partners").
Letting Wireshark run, this same sequence was repeated every few seconds
for 10 minutes, when I closed Wireshark. I have no idea how long this
process will continue.
I have also tried this same test on Fedora and OpenBSD, with the same
version of Firefox, with the same configuration, and the issue does not
present.
I don't happen to prefer this behaviour, so I have two questions:
1. Why is this happening on OpenSuSE?
2. How do I disable it?

It has no menu, I can do nothing.
How do I restore the menu?
Right click on the icons area does nothing.
There is a cog wheel on the right hand panel: no restore menu thing.

Just wondering if anyone has thoughts and experience in using password
managers that are cross-platform and cross-device? I have 3 computers
and an android phone, and mostly use google Chrome for a browser. The
Chrome password manager has somehow completely messed up my entire
password database so that nothing matches now. So I was thinking of
looking at some other application to use.
I read a little about LastPass, Universal Password Manager, Password
Gorilla, KeePass, and KeePassX. All look ok, but I would be interested
to know what other folks' experiences have been.

I was doing an update of a Tumbleweed system yesterday and at some
point the computer restarted. I did not see how far it had gotten in
installing the updates. Now the system no longer has a GUI. X can be
started. But kdeinit5 seems unhappy. Instead of fighting with whatever
may have been borked in kde, I thought I would just undo the update.
When running snapper, I only see the pre snapshot. Usually there is a
post. My question is, how can I revert to what I had before the
troublesome zypper update? In the description here
(https://doc.opensuse.org/documentation/leap/reference/html/book.opensuse.re…),
all the examples are when there is a pre and a post. What if I only
have the pre? Before the pre made when the update failed, I only have
the original snapshot. This is on a disk with limited space, so when
things look good, I have to remove snapshots.

one of the 14 internal fonts in the PDF format:

available in the reader, and may only display correctly if the system
has them installed.[20] Fonts may be substituted if they are not
embedded in a PDF.»
The advantage is that texts created with these exact fonts do not need
the PDF file to embed them, thus reducing the PDF file size.
In the past, to get them I needed to enable "printer fonts" in LO. Now I
do not see the setting (using LO in Leap 15.1 Beta).
