Hi all,
Reading some mails on the GIMP mail list, I ran across the procedure
to install some more fonts for not only Gimp, but the system and
StarOffice to use also. Well, I installed the fonts, went to the
shell and issued the command xset fp+ <font directory> and then the
rehash command and all fonts are there! Ok, that went well, but each
time I restart the system, I have to do it all over again? Is there
a way to make it permanent and read the new fonts like it does the
ones the system installs or is that a no-no?
end of line
Tracer
Shell commands:
xset fp+ <new font directory>
xset fp rehash

Speaking of time, please check yours. Your email showed up with a date of
March 2, 1999...
Thanks,
Stan
Yes, I'm a time traveler you see, I'm only in this time segment now to check
on a few stock investments I had in mind...thanx for the tip Stan..

I'm already dual booting fwiw..
Thank you for your time.
I am currently using a Dell 2650 Poweredge server without a raid controller. It's using the standard adaptec onboard SCSI as it stands. I'm wondering if anyone has installed the Perc3 raid controller and had the Linux install just pop right up (assuming the megaraid module was loading)?
I wouldn't need to reformat if all I was doing was switching controllers and hardware mirroring, right?
Thanks,
Rich

I would be thankful for answers to some questions: about wireless cards
1) Re: Wireless Ethernet Cards for Desktops.
How does one get Linux to recognize an ethernet card (e.g. a wireless card)
that is not on the list of supported cards shown by YAST2?
2) Re: Installing a PCMCIA card onto a Desktop.
I understand that one can install a wireless PCMCIA ethernet card in a
desktop with the appropriate PCI card. Is there any problem with Linux's
recognizing the card under these circumstances?
Under Linux 8.0, is there any problem with recognition and use of a wireless
PCMCIA? I read the relevant HowTo, but that installed under Debian and I
think (guess) an older kernel.
Thanks

**** imagine; all of everything that is or was, can be reduced to an equation less than one inch long ! ***
Okay , getting completely and thoroughly discusted w/ verio , we have
gone so far as to contact bellSouth .. who , of course , tell us, they
"do not support linux" and wont even send us the modem unless we have
windows something on the box.. <heavy sigh> I still have a windows
partition I can fudge a bit for purposes of this experiment <g> tho
husband is seriously worried that w/o support we wont be able to use it
.. I can't imagine why, if anyone did support an OS I was currently
using , I'd have to see what was further out on the bleeding edge<g>
Anyway, any users of Bell South in particular , or DSL generally care
to share ? headaches , heartbreaks , willingness to suggest answers to
tech support type questions .. ??? Especially if you might be willing
to take this off list for private discussions, and electronic
handholding and "there , there , type soothing noises for Gil ( that's
the spouse <g>)
TIA y'all

afterthought : DOS tip #17: add DEVICE=FNGRCROS.SYS to CONFIG.SYS.
I suspect that i am merely stupid and that this is the reason i cannot
figure out how to do an online update to the latest KDE release. It is
my assumption that i need to provide a directory string at ftp.suse.com,
but can't for the life of me figurre out what it is. Although i can
find the files, yast2 can't, and i never seem to be able to download the
right files in the right order to just run the rpm's myself. For the
sake of my crumbling self-esteem, can someone please help me.
