[SLE] dump and nfs

hi, we're usind dump command to backup our system's (suse 6.1) local disks and it works. but, when we want to use this command to backup our nfs RW mounted dirs, it fails. (not actually gives a error message, but it dumps 0.00 of type :) we can read and write those mounted dirs but we could not dump them. so what might be the problem, any idea? here i'm giving some outputs: when we type mount -s ..... 195.174.27.3:/export/home on /mnt/home/users type nfs (rw,addr=195.174.27.3) --------------------------------- and he is the dump command line: # dump 0uBf 2097152 /dev/nst0 /mnt/home/users //its about 750MB dir. [SLE] Printing

Hi... Wonder if anyone can tell me how to setup the printer for kmail and Netscape....I click on the print icon and send the file to printer and there seems to be a few pages of garbage before it gets to the mail. It would seem to be bypassing the mail filter but how do I get over this?? -- Regards Ted ........................ . [SLE] Modifying /etc/ppp/ip-up

I would like to make some local modifications to /etc/ppp/ip-up. What is the best way to do that so they won't be lost when I upgrade my system to a new SuSE version? Ideally there would be an /etc/ppp/ip-up.local file called from SuSE's ip-up, but there isn't. I'm using MS Outhouse98 (I'm stuck here at work:-() and it will handle html, but everytime an html message comes in my font gets thrown out of whack and it becomes difficult to read with sometimes only three of four words per line (lots of scrolling). Fortunately, it is simple enough to select all of the text and reset to my default font. I would imagine that html also consumes more bandwidth (not much, but it could add up) than plain text. [SLE] 6.2 CD unbootable in SCSI drive

I flubbed a lilo so now my SCSI HD won't boot my old 6.1 SuSE. I don't have my old 6.1 CDs anymore, but I do have a 6.2 set. Unfortunately the CD Won't boot in my SCSI CDROM drive attached to a Adaptec 2940U2W controller. Problem #1: How to get it to boot? According to the manual the Adaptec driver should be compiled into the kernel, so it should be bootable on this setup, right? The good news is that I was able to boot from the 6.2 floppy. The bad news is that Yast keeps failing to read the packages on the CD. The last few lines on console 3 are: [...] Mounting of inst-sys returns 0 Program aborted! Tue Feb 29 18:23:11 2000 ERROR: Unknown Error!, DETAIL: 0 FILE: PkgRetriever.cc LINE: 578 YaST return code is 256 (errno = 2) I happen to have a removable IDE HD that I've been using for backups. I put this into another system and copied the files off the first CD to it, thinking I could do a HD install. That fails with the same error. [SLE] Duplex printing with PostScript

Several people have been asking how to turn duplex printing on and off. I unearthed some material on this in /usr/doc/packages/aps/OPTIONS. Have a look! Just remember that it doesn't work with lprold, the old lpr package, because that version of lpr doesn't recognize the -Z option. For a simple box I would create 5 partitions such that Windows system goes on the first and /boot on the second. The remaining three partitions would be for /, swap, and a fat16 partition that can be shared by both operating systems. Optionally you can add partitions to share between the OSes or to keep separate. As far as installation goes, I've always had luck installing Win first Linux second and putting lilo on the MBR and adding an entry to boot /dev/hda1 for windows.
