Hi, I just discovered a "new" firefox feature. I have a low power tiny computer which I use as server and to display videos. It often runs a firefox window with maybe five tabs, each on one youtube link that I follow, so to easily watch the next video in the series when I am on the mood. Problem: each tab eats a significant amount of CPU power. Solution: open a tab with "about:unloads" and click the "unload" button several times, to unload from memory the tabs using most resources. The computer went to maybe 5% instead of 25% cpu. Tabs that are "unloaded" by this are actually unloaded, they are blanked. So no cpu, and no ram. I assume that clicking on a tab awakes it again. Not tried yet. Yes, it does. But you have to click reload on "about:unloads" so that the awakened tab is listed again in the tab running the list And the reloaded tab remembers it was in mid-play, I mean, remembers the position. On my main computer releasing memory is not important. What interests me is freezing the cpu usage of tabs. Do you know something for that? Previously I tried this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/play-or-pause-tab-menu-item/ Doesn't quite work, it just pauses the play, but the tab still eats cpu. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. YaST .../wizard/style.qss - font-size: 10.5pt makes the interface much more readable (like installation.qss)

All, YaST gui in TW for software management had fonts that made it look awkward. I picked around and found the .qss theme files and the installation.qss contains: * { font-family:"Source Sans 3",sans; font-size: 10.5pt } But the default style.qss has no font size and the fonts are much larger. I suspect if you have current KDE or have the Gtk version installed on a Gtk desktop then current desktop theming may provide a font size setting for YaST, but for other desktops, YaST Software Management just appears to have big fonts. If you are faced with the same issue, just edit the .qss file of your choosing in /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current/wizard/ and add the 4 lines above. I find the 10.5 font size about right. (you can try all themes by pressing [Shift + F3] and choosing from the list) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Machine lockups when suspend is envoked:

Hi, openSUSE Tumbleweed here with KDE. I recently replaced the Nvidia Quadro K600 video card with an AMD RX550 video card in the machine. Issue is that when suspend is envoked there are lockups possibly 15 to 20 percent of the time. Then REISUB is used to complete the powercycle. For a couple weeks I had just left the Nvidia packages and Nvidia kernel boot parameters as they were after installing the rx550 and experienced a lockup during suspend 30 percent of the time. Now I purged the Nvidia packages and removed the Nvidia related kernel boot options and updated grub. As with the prior video card, suspend was still reliable. How can I troubleshoot this problem more correctly?

3 pairs of xeyes?

I have a line in ~/.profile that calls a script which in turn includes: if [ "$desktop" = "kde" ] then echo "it is kde" xeyes -geometry 70x50+36+420 & xeyes -geometry 70x50+1750+420 & else echo "No kde, no xeyes" fi Which 'used to' give me 2 pairs of xeyes nestled between the two deskbar panels on the sides. Lately however I've ben getting 3 of them: https://imgur.com/2M5Zbil.png In this image (made to brag about my not usb but SATA desktop external bay) you can see my monitor showing the KDE plasma desktop photographed as part of my IKEA pine desktop then reloaded as a desktop wallpaper before that desktop being snapped up to imgur. I 'suspect' SDDM which begins with a lo-res desktop (the two pairs of xeyes on the left) but then they get redrawn as the desktop rolls into high-res with the left one being repeated in the same place as the first time. I have NO CLUE really, just poking around. What gives?

Sound setup failure in OpenSuSE 15.6

I have a computer devoted to handling my media center and recently upgraded it from OpenSuSE 15.5.to 15..6 (KDE X-11 Plasma desktop) and now I am having troubles setting up the sound system. Whenever I right click on the small speaker icon in the kicker bar, to configure the audio devices, and select any one of the playback devices and try to test the speakers, I get the following error - Error trying to play a test sound. The system said: "System error" NOT very helpful IMHO! I have followed, and done what I could do, the suggestions outlined at - https://en.opensuse.org/Sound_troubleshooting but many of the steps ran into the above mentioned "System error". I have no idea how to go about debugging the openSuSE sound subsystem, there doesn't seem to be any log files associated with the sound system to study, nor does the general messages log file show anything about sound system failures. Devs, Since I can remember, suse/opensuse has provided the convenience of collecting the bash builtin functions in a separate man page: $ man bashbuiltins On Tumbleweed, that results in: $ man bashbuiltins No manual entry for bashbuiltins Possibly, man page is not installed, try online at: https://manpages.opensuse.org/bashbuiltins It was there up though Leap 15.4.
