[SLE] Making automatic detection

Hi again. I'm having a little problem with my Zip drive, well it isn't really a problem. I don't want to type insmod ppa each time I want to access de Zip drive. How and where should I touch in order to make this automatically each time is booted up? [SLE] Umax SCSI scanners revisited

[SLE] proto-network question

Still a "poor" question. My SuSE6.1/2.2.14 desktop works sometimes as a ftp-server for my company W98 laptop, so I can upload files from SuSE. I configured through YaST my 3com, assigned a IP (192.168.0.1) and everything went fine (my laptop was configured as 192.168.0.2): ping and ftp good. Then I upgraded YaST and all the update rpm available for 6.1. (Now I have no details because now I'm at work while the SuSE is at home). Self-ping is ok but ping towards the laptop (configured as 192.168.0.2) fails. Of course any ftp fails. More it seems from the screen that YaST doesn't see the 3com as recognized. (yet the older version worked). Is there the possibility that changing YaST ore updating some package has modified something? [SLE] (OT) AMD processors and Linux

Seems that AMD processors, specifically the K6/2 series, seem to be very popular amongst the Linux community in general and the SuSE community in particular. Anybody know why this is? Not a complaint, only a question. Speaking of AMD,anyone tried the Athlon with Linux? My M$-using friends tell me they scream under WinDoze, even NT. If they can run Mr. Gates's bloated monstrosity of an OS satisfactorily, their performance under Linux would have to be eye-watering. :) -- ____________________ Joseph A. [SLE] SUSE 6.3 kernel build, plus pcmcia (ATA/IDE), plus usb(ZIP)

I have a Pico Direct Consul laptop, and wish to run the Zip drive from the USB port. 1) Building the kernels 2.3.31(from SUSE discs) or 2.3.48 (latest download), I seem to lose an essential component of PCMCIA - ide_cs. Can anyone advise me on this: I cannot find the source (ide_cs.c ???) or any name convesrion from something else. Nor can I use the 2.2.13 ide_cs.o, for the kernel notices it is the wrong build. Should later pcmcia systems use this, or something else? 2) When I try to insmod usb-ohci, I get the message "Device or resource busy". I also tried the other usb-uhci, with the same result, and cannot build ohci-hcd mentioned in the linux-usb/HOWTO. This happens with a Zip drive connected and with nothing connected to the usb port. hi, I'm trying to test if iomega ditto 800 is supported by suse 6.2. Where i df /dev/ftape or df /dev/rft0 it gives me "no device found" Pls. help me how to go over it . . . I have found that when posting to a Linux user's group, listserver, etc. that it is best to avoid HTML. Some lists that I have been on will eventually flame you if you persist. The reason is that some users prefer console-based email clients that are plain-text only. A message in HTML comes across as just plain ugly. You never know, one of those 1950's guys may have the answer that you need to that difficult problem that has stumped you but they deleted your message as soon as they saw the first HTML tag. Remember the primary rule of communicating, write for your audience. just my two cents... [SLE] SuSE got fried

Hello, I installed SuSE on a computer for my Aunt. My little cousins, as it turned out, were not logging off. Instead, they were just turning the power off. The computer no longer boots up. I talked to them via the telephone, and I don't even think it gets to the LILO prompt. Is there any easy way to fix the damage, or is a complete reinstall necessary? I'm in Moscow Russia, and they are in Houston, Texas so I can only fax them the info and get some messages to them via email of a friend. I know it could be a hard drive crash too.
