[SLE] Dual boot partitions?

Greetings -- I want to partition a drive so I can install both Win2K and Linux. I've read I should have a very small partition up front for boot? Is this correct? Can anyone give me the scoop on what partitions I best create and install what into what? Should I install Win2K first then Linux? And don't install LILO into the MBR? [SLE] Can't Mount my CD-ROM

My 'fdomain' SCSI driver module loads at bootup and sees my Future Domain controller and the Texel CD-ROM attached, seemingly without error. When I attempt to *mount* the CD-ROM drive, I get the error: "mount: the kernel does not recognize /dev/scd0 as a block device" Furthermore, if I attempt to load the 'sr_mod.o' module with 'modprobe sr_mod' I see the following: /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o: unresolved symbol register_cdrom /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o: unresolved symbol is_reg_blkdev /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o: unresolved symbol unregister_cdrom /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o: unresolved symbol cdrom_fops /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o failed /lib/modules/2.2.13/scsi/sr_mod.o: insmod sr_mod failed FWIW those symbol names *are* in /boot/Symbols.map, although I don't know if that's relevant. Should I have included the SCSI CD-ROM support in the kernel instead of as a module? What's going on here? [SLE] gfontview question?

Hello, I need more than just a font viewer, since KDE can view fonts. I need a fontviewer that can open up any directory to which I direct it, and view the TrueType fonts within. This is useful, since I am grabbing TrueType fonts off CD's, and would like to view them before I go through the trouble of actually installing them on my system. Many of the fonts have names that don't really tell me much. Can gfontview do this? KDE's fontview only shows the fonts properly marked in the XF86Config file, and which are properly installed. [SLE] SMB printing problem

Hi, I set up my Linux machine as a samba server. I also set the Win 98 machine to print to the Linux connected printer. The problem I have is that the file is sent to the queue but it just sits there in the lpd queue and does not print. If I print something from the Linux machine, then both docs are printed, the one from Win98 and the one from Linux. How can I automatically print the file once it is in the Linux queue? [SLE] Yast Aborts Installation

Installation proceeds normaly until installation of the first package (aaa-base), then it crashes. 486DX2-50, 8M RAM, 2.8G HD, AIBIOS, sound blaster clone gives message: "An error occurred during installation!", and on the ALT4 screen it says: "Program Aborted! ERROR: open output file, DETAIL 0, FILE: SystemCmd.cc, LINE: 530, YaST Return Code is 256 (errno=4)". BEGIN NOW ***RANT, RANT, & RANT*** INPUT This is not my favorite subject but here goes. Earlier today I tried to print an email message from Netscape mail that was addressed to my wife. The HP LaserJet 6MP started spitting out pages with and endless stream of garbage printed on them. Same old BS. I used LPC to clean the spool, LPC down to shut down the printer, turned the printer off and closed out of KDE. At the command line, I started yast and deleted the lprold program from my machine. I then rebooted the computer. Guess what? When I went back into Kde and turned my printer on, the damn thing started spewing out paper the same as if I hadn't done anything. I have called Suse support, (on my nickel, from Alaska) and the tech doesn't have a clue what's going on. All I get is email after email asking me to explain again, what's wrong until in disgust I give up. Hell, Mickeysoft gives that kind of support, only it cost $35.00 plus the phone call. At Suse it's only the toll charge. Very carefully I read the information about lprng. Heard some people from this list say that this program was the answer to that horrible BSD printing system. I used yast to install the rpm and SuSEConfig did it's job. I hunted all over every file system on my machine trying to locate where the files for lprng are located and all I can find are the configure files in /etc. So I download the source file figuring I have to configure and compile the program. Yast installs the source code and I can't find that. Someone is having a lot of fun with this printing stuff but it is not me. Anyway I tried to print another email to see if my printer is going to take off again and hooray, all I got was an error message. Were making progress. Here is what Netscape said: Netscape subprocess diagnostics (stdout/stderr) status information; sending job 'rusty@nova+299' to postscript@print-serv connecting to 'print-serv- no such file or directory. Make sure LPD server is running on the server job 'rusty@nova+299 transfer to postscript @ print-serv failed. I can live with an error message, saves me lots of paper. But since I don't have a clue where yast installed the files for this program (lprng) trying to configure the server is not very practicable. Does anyone have any advice they are willing to offer. Other than printing, which is the most f***** up operation I've ever seen, Linux is great.
