Installation proceeds normaly until installation of the first package (aaa-base), then it crashes. 486DX2-50, 8M RAM, 2.8G HD, AIBIOS, sound blaster clone gives message: "An error occurred during installation!", and on the ALT4 screen it says: "Program Aborted! ERROR: open output file, DETAIL 0, FILE: SystemCmd.cc, LINE: 530, YaST Return Code is 256 (errno=4)". Is this a memory hardware problem, and what can I do about it? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! I was getting similar problems trying to install it on my 486-40/8 and 486DX2-66/4 The problem seams to be memmory or the lack of it. I fixed the issue by waiting before yast starts and asks for you to activate a swap partition - then you can switch to console 2 and from there ou can: 1. mount /dev/hd* /mnt (* is whatever you have - a.b,...) 2. than install everything in a and ap dir (I think it's a and ap) rpm - Uvh /var/adm/mount/suse/a1/* rpm -Uvh /var/adm/mount/suse/ap/* 3. than what I did was add an user on my current platform and coppied the apropriate user line from /etc/passwd to a file, and did the same with /etc/shadow, changed the usernames from the ones I created to root and copied the files to the dir /mnt/etc/ on the machine I was installing suse on. 4. Than reboot, but keep the install floppy handy. When floppy boots walk over the menus and find the option boot installed system. Than you can boot and start yast and set the other stuff from there. I hope my explanation wasn't too messed up. but I'm in a hurry so I am really sloppy right now, but I think that the procedure described above should work.
