[SLE] Install new problem

SuSE Users: During the installation of SuSE Linux 6.1 I get a message: FORMAT ERROR An error ocurred while formatting the filesystem on partition "/dev/hda2". Here is the error message of the ŽformatŽcommand: mke2fs 1.14, 9-Jan-1999 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09 <Continue> I boot from floppy, select English as language, Español as keyborard map, and the free part of disk. This time I decide install DOS before Linux using 2 GB for DOS partition. I have a 450 MHz Pentium III with 128 MB RAM and 12 GB IDE Hard disk. HD Maxtor CYLS 16383 Heads 16 Sectors 63 Model 91303D6 Mother Board: SOYO SY-6VBA133 Video S3 VIRGE/DX ON BOARD QSE4BB Network adapter: 3Com Parallel Tasking II This is the 6th time I try to install, previously I get a hanging state while creating filesystem on /dev/hda2. Can someone help me. If it's the one I think it was from last year, worse than that, it was a 360K 51/4", but didn't have much else than the very basics. Hi, I was wondering if anybody could give me any good advice about the problem that I am facing. I am trying to install SuSE 6.3 as a dual OS with Win '98. Both OS will reside on the same hard drive. I use to have Mandrake's Linux installed with no problems. I loaded LILO in the MBR for Mandrake's Linux. When I booted up my computer I could chose between the commands "dos" for Win'98 and "Linux" for Linux. I uninstalled Mandrake's Linux inorder to install SuSE 6.3. With SuSE 6.3 I installed LILO in the MBR and the only commands I am allowed to enter is "SuSe" and "Linux" which both commands boot up Linux. How can I configure LILO so that one of the commands at the LILO prompt can boot up Win '98? I am opened to suggestions!! [SLE] SuSE 6.3 on Compaq M700 laptop

Hi Everyone. I have just purchased a laptop and am looking to install SuSE 6.3 on it. All works fine but I am now plagued with getting X working. I know the new version of X is available but am unsure how to install it into the system and configure for the laptop's Rage chipset. Any help greatly appreciated. Now I get to try mobile Linux! [SLE] Simple question - CD Burning

Hi, I've posted a couple of times here, but unfortunately nobody was able to answer my question. So, let me start from ground zero. Here's an example: Today, I do: mount /floppy cp zzz /floppy Tomorrow, I do with the SAME floppy: mount /floppy cp yyy /floppy No problem. The 2 files (zzz and yyy) show up in my floppy. Now, here's my question: Can I do the same with a re-writable CD, using the appropriate commands (mkisofs and cdrecord)? If so how? [SLE] Upgrading to 6.3

I am looking to upgrade from 6.0 to 6.3. However, I have a minor problem that was discussed on the list before, my RPM database is shot. This may be a question for the SuSE people but can I upgrade still without losing any of my major changes, ie don't want Sendmail etc and still use my own kernel. Sean. PS. I uploaded a load of rpm's to the ftp site. [SLE] ReiserFS in 6.4?

Would ReiserFS be better integrated with the SuSE 6.4 release? i.e., would I be able to create ReiserFS partitions from YAST when doing a fresh install? Also, if you currently use ReiserFS, what are your opinions on the FS? How well does it work? Is it stable? Any problems, compatibility issues?
