[opensuse] OpenSUSE 11.3 YaST scanimage -L not responding

Hi I am trying to install a scanner with YaST and keep getting the message: Error Failed to determine the active scanners. When the net metadriver is activated and something is wrong in the network, it can happen that there is no response from the 'Scanimage -L' command. For example when the communication with a server whcih should be used by the net metadriver gets distorted because a firewall drops some network traffic in this case it should help to disable the net metadriver as a work around until the issue in the network is fixed. I do not have any known networking problems at the moment. I am trying to install the scanner on the machine that the scanner is connected to. Does anyone understand this? This worked well in SUSE 10.2, why is this broken now? [opensuse] Is there an 11.0 download source anywhere.

I got 11.0 from a DVD in a magazine, but I have no DVD burner now, all my old boxes died on me including the one with the DVD burner. I will eventually get one but I am unemployed now. I have no idea why its doing that, Im sorry it usually works for me, maybe its something in the connection or the driver? What make / model is your scanner and how is it connected via Ethernet or USB? [opensuse] strange dolphin behaviour: kio-thumbmail

Hello, since a few days dolphin is driving me crazy when ever I want to show a folder containing html-files. It opens a bunch of "open with..." windows, which reappear as soon as I close them. Sometimes they even reappear after closing dolphin and I have to kill the dolphin process. As I should work on web pages I need a usable file manager, but dolphin is unusable for these folders. Even rebooting doesn't change anything... [opensuse] Evolution

I recently upgraded a machine that uses Evolution as its mail client from 11.2 to 11.3 (i.e. is now Evo 2.30.1.2). I'd be grateful for any advice about a few points: (1) I've noticed a regression. When you click on a folder, the mail that is currently highlighted is never marked as read until you click onto a different mail and back again. 11.2 didn't behave like that. (2) Also, when I started it, it said something about errors briefly in the status bar but help doesn't tell appear to tell me anything about how to troubleshoot. (3) What determines the font in the message display (3-panel window). It doesn't appear to match my gnome font settings as used by other apps (4) Does anybody know of a good migration guide from evolution to thunderbird? I am running zypper dup and are happy with the results. I have one problem though. Due to a sometimes very unreliable adsl connection I have some problems. After I have okayed the choices for the update I have to sit before the monitor until the update is ready because regularly I get the information that a certain program can not be retrieved. Read through the zypper information and found nothing which would help me with automatically retry to connect to the respective server to get the data. Found --non-interactive update which promised to ask no questions with the update (same as dup?) but this command just answers to the default which is with zypper dup a for abort. If if would be r for retry I could expect to have my update done irrespectively of the bad connection of my ISP. Would be nice to have a third choice after receiving the amount of updates. For the moment it is only y/n?.Example: 9 packages to upgrade. Overall download size: 15.1 MiB. After the operation, additional 20.0 KiB will be used. Continue? [y/n/?] (y): Something like NIU (non-interactive update) could be a solution. Something to propose in OpenFate if it is not already available in zypper. [opensuse] Chromium is crashing

Hi, Chromium version 11.0.665.0 installed from: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.3:/Contrib/standard/ is crashing. When running it from a terminal the following message is showed: unnamed app(8565) KMimeTypePrivate::ensureXmlDataLoaded: Missing <comment> field in "application/x-msdownload.xml" unnamed app(8565) KMimeTypePrivate::ensureXmlDataLoaded: Missing <comment> field in "text/x-component.xml" Segmentation fault I delete the chromium config directory (~/.config/chromium), but I have no success.
