Redirect connection to another IP Address

Hi, I've still got this spammer trying to use my machine to send Spam. My ISP (NTLWorld) seem either over worked, or isn't going to take any action. So how can I redirect any connections to port 25 from a specific ip address to connect to another ip address. Basically I would like to redirect all the connections back to the spammers machine if possible. Is this possible, or could this cause more problems. Regards Adam

SuSE couldn't find all .mp3 and .ogg files...

hi, all... Well, I don't know why.....but, SuSE doesn't detect all .mp3 and .ogg files in Windows drives. Yes, one folder just shows 6 files out of 12 and some folders show nothing even though I played all in Windows. How can I fix this...? URGENTLY NEED HELP - Postfix and spam

I've just noticed in the last two days something has gone horribly wrong with Postfix on SuSE 8.1. My machine has got a massive queue of emails that it is attempting to send to AOL customers that I never sent myself. AOL is refusing connections, so these emails are sitting in the queue. I've just quickly done a few mail relay tests and all passed. Now I'm not sure if it is due to the Spammer being on the same ISP as myself or due to some other problem with Postfix. His ip address is very close to mine Spammer = 81.99.191.26 & Mine = 81.99.191.*** I had configured it to "Soft Bounce" emails as I've been testing a few things. How can I remove all these emails from the queue, as it is sending hundreds of requests to AOLs mail servers, and this is probably not a good idea. I've disabled postfix with rcpostfix stop, but what do I do now. Please help Adam

laptop problem with external display problem

Greeting, After installed SuSE v8.2, my Toshiba laptop can not bring X window up on the display which linked to the dock (Toshiba Advanced Port Replicator. My screen is Philips 170B. The console is ok? I was tried to change X11 setting, but, it seems not successful for me. How I can make the X window up on multi-screen? Raid 1 on SuSE 7.2

Dear friends, I have recently setup a SuSE 7.2 box with 3 hard disks: 1) 6GB With SuSE 7.2 (Disk0) 2) 200 GB Empty Disk (Disk1) 3) 200 GB Empty Disk (Disk2) I have installed SuSE of Disk0. Have created my raidtab file in /etc/raidtab with all the necessary information to create the raid array. Raidtab looks like this: raiddev /dev/md0 raid-level 1 nr-raid-disks 2 nr-spare-disks 0 chunk-size 4 persistent-superblock 1 device /dev/hdb raid-disk 0 device /dev/hdc raid-disk 1 Have created /dev/md0 with Raid 1 and the sync has finished after about 21 hours. I have formated md0 with the Normal option that Yast gave me and have directed yast to mount this array on /data which I have created. When i reboot the machine, it stops and tells me to enter the system with root password, to run fsck manually and fix any partition problems etc... (I am not at the screen right now). Can Someone tell me a general how-to in order to create this?? I will use this array with Samba and filesharing will be initiated once it is setup properly!! Getting "meld" working, preferaby under KDE

Anyone got meld ( http://meld.sf.net ) working under Suse? It's a tool for merging source trees, or CVS versions. Getting the latest software?

Hiya! I'm new to SuSE Linux, and I like it a lot! But I've got a couple of questions as I start out with it... (1) SuSE uses RedHat RPM's, right? Will any rpm file that works on RedHat also work on SuSE? It can't use Debian .deb files, correct? (2) SuSE comes with Gaim 0.59, but the latest version is 0.69. I see that the Gaim web site offers rpm's for RedHat and for Mandrake, but none specifically for SuSE. Will the RedHat version work on SuSE? Or is there somewhere I can obtain the latest version specifically for SuSE? (3) In general, is there a central place to go for SuSE software that's not part of the standard distribution yet? Like, SuSE comes with KDE 3.1.1, but is KDE 3.1.3 available in a way that SuSE can be easily upgraded to? (4) Where does the name 'SuSE' come from, and why is it capitalized weird like that? (5) Bonus question: anybody know how to change the behavior of the KDE Konqueror web browser, so that if I enter 'apple' into the location bar, it goes to 'www.apple.com' instead of doing a Google search on 'apple'?

How to get camstream to ftp for 'user'?

I tried it as root, and it did just fine, but as 'user', I constantly get a message like 'url or domain name couldn't be found' or something like that. So my question is...how to I make it so that as 'user', I can ftp upload with camstream? If anyone remembers my last post, about being assaulted, now I've found out, that someone (I suspect the same person who assaulted me) is also coming and opening my doors and trying (my best guess, and truly believe is correct) to let my dogs out to either run off or so he can try to shoot them or run them over (luckily they are very well trained and stay in the house or in the yard). So, I really need this to work, so that I can use camstream to take snapshots while I'm gone from the house, and upload them to my webpage, in case the asshole (sorry) trashes my computer or steals it. I know locking the doors would be a good idea, but then I'm worried he'd just trash up something even worse trying to get in or a door open, and being disabled and not getting much money a month, there's just no way I can afford fixing something like that. I'm sort of in a lose-lose situation, and the damn law isn't helping me out one bit. Sorry for the sob story, but I'm in dire straits here, and really need *any* kind of help I can get. Thanks gang. Strange problems with Evolution

I'm having a really strange problem with Evolution 1.4.4 ULB. I use Evolution at work and home, basically for the same account - IMAP/smtp. The other day I wasn't able to send email. It just stuck in my inbox for the longest time. I clicked on send and receive and nothing happened. The progress bar just sat on the uploading section. I finally had to cancel. I sent a couple test emails and some would go and some would not, but they all stayed in my inbox. But I was able to send email from my Kmail, which is handles my linuxmail.org account (smtp/pop), without a problem. So today, Anders Johannson mentioned to me to try to setup my work account on Kmail and and setup my Linuxmail account on Evolution and run some tests. So I did. Installing samba

I've been trying to use apt-rpm to install samba3, but I get version 3.0.0rc4 installed all the time. Using apt-cache to search, I see that both versions are available both at gwdg.de and and uni-bielefeld. But for some reason, version 3.0.0rc4 is treated as a higher version than 3.0.0. Anyone know of a way to force the issue, with apt?

Greeting, I have tried to use nfs mount and have the following error in /var/log/messages: Mounted[1861]: access from host 10.10.1.151 rejected I thought it may be caused by host.allow, so I added: Portman: ALL : ALLOW Rcp.mountd: ALL : ALLOW Rcp.nfsd: ALL : ALLOW And keep host.allow to: ALL:ALL But, it is still not work? Am I still missing something? CLI tool to attach a txt file to an existing e-mail

From KMail I want to pipe e-mails through a script that uses antivir to scan the e-mail (now a tem file in disk) for virusses. If a virus is found I'ld like to include the result of the scan in the mail, either as a text in the mail body or as a "virusfound.txt" attachment. I had a look at some tools but I didn't find what I was looking for. Any suggestions anyone?

Samba profile going nuts!

I finally got my domain logons to work. Now, my logons take forever using roaming profiles. The XP box does what seems like a complete resync with the samba pdc. How do I restrict what info is sycronized at logon so it doesn't take so long? JS

As far as I recall, I just installed it as it came, without any configuration (though you do have to tell your browser to use it as a proxy, localhost port 3128, and you may have to adjust your firewall). The other solution is to use Opera, which worked at full speed on my system. Perhaps worth trying, just to prove that this *is* the problem, though the choice of ads or cash made me go for the first method. Hope this helps. David Hart

Package update cache in /var/lib

Hi all. I have a minor problem with my SuSE 8.0 installation - I've run out of space on /var. A quick look shows that over half the partition is being taken up by RPM files in /var/lib/YaST (IIRC) - I guess downloaded by YOU. Is it OK for me to delete these files? I'll be upgrading to a 9.0 fresh install when it comes out, so I don't necessarily need to think very long-term. Hi. I have just installed SuSE 8.2 on my Fujitsu/Siemens C6155 Lifebook. As I have a D-Link DWL-610 wireless pcmciacard, I was searching the SDB for the subject wireless, and found something that could be used. With reference to the article, I did start up a tail -f /var/log/messages, and plugged in the wireless card into my Lifebook. It's pretty nice, and can be integrated into the GIMP as well. If you go to epson.com and search for linux, there's a link to this site...so they pretty much endorse it. I have not tried scanning slides in (don't own any), but I've done color and black and white negatives. I can blow them up to print stunning 8x10's. Galeon not working with PHP...

I have a very funny situation. I have some web pages that use PHP and session data is used. This works fine with MozillaFirebird, Konquerer, Netscape 4.8 and Epiphany, but Galeon seems to loose the session data that is posted somehow. I have checked that cookies are enabled. Any idea what else could cause this? I'm trying to send email thru my smtp server at work while at home. Seems I can only send an email within a certain size. Anything too large and it won't go. I'm using postfix, cyrus and imap. ftp installation source

I installed 8.2 from our 8.2 ftp server on a portable today. It works fine. But when I come to install additional items it asks for the roms from the CD set. The *only* installation media in Yast is our ftp server and it is marked as on. The same is true if we do a dvd install instead. It always asks fro the CD roms. Most annoying. Any ideas anyone? keyboard does not respond

Hi, my keyboard is stopping randomly responding under X11. It does not matter which desktop I use. The mouse is usually still working. Does anyone know what could be the cause for it? Hello, If I have to guess, the problem is this. The x bit (which corresponds to 1 in octal) means executable for files, but for directories it means accessible. By removing this bit from the permissions, you end up with files that are not executable, but you also end up with directories that are not accessible. But a quick peek in "man mount" shows there is a solution: dmask=value Set the umask applied to directories only. The default is the umask of the current process. The value is given in octal. Present since 2.5.43. So make it umask=113,dmask=002 I see there is also an fmask, so you can also try fmask=113,dmask=002. I have two FAT32 partitions mounted that are defined in /etc/fstab with entries created when I installed SuSE 8.1. The umask option is set to 0002, which gives the files permissions of rwxrwxr-x. This is fine in most cases except that ROX-filer, the file manager I use does not correctly handle the MIME-type association if files are executable. So when viewing a folder on one of these partitions I am not able to launch the associated application with a single click and all icons are shown as a gear, which is the ROX icon for executable files. This also prevents thumbnails from being displayed for image files. I need the file permissions on these partitions to be rw-rw-r-- and was trying to adjust the umask value to provide this. I assumed I should change the umask to 0113 to accomplish this but when I do I can't access the files. When I run ls -l on the root of the mounted partition all files report "permission denied". If I change the umask to 0013 and remount the partition the files now have permissions of rwxrw-r-- but ROX still sees them as executable, even though the gid option is set to the users group. So it seems that root also needs not to have executable permission but how do I achieve this without making all the files inaccessible? Removed the phones, rewired the phone lines, changed pci slots, changed IRQ's in BIOS so the modem would be on its' own IRQ, pinged, echoed, set idle time to indefinite, removed idle time, changed AT commands to match those in windoze exactly, added additional AT commands to allow flex in line noise, verified windoze com port is same as linux ttyS (com5=ttyS4), on and on and on.................. I have a reqmnt to switch from a DHCP to a static IP on my laptop all the time. In Red Hat, it is very simple to do this using "System Settings --> Network " from the main menu. How do I do this on Suse 8.2? For now, I am forced to change the ifcfg-<device> file under /etc/sysconfig/network. -Shesh

Samba 3.0

I see that Samba 3.0 was released yesterday. Hopefully Lars Muelle (IIRC) will post a SuSE 8.2 rpm soon so we can start experimenting with it. I know it is supposed to have the ability to fully participate in a AD domain, but that is about the limit of my knowledge. Anyone know anything about it from a bug persective? Nvidia and Suse 8.2 Black screen with 3d

Hi guys, I am really having trouble getting the Nvidia drivers to work in Suse 8.2 with 3d enabled. I am using a MSI motherboard MS-6738 which does have an on board graphics card but its disabled when a graphics card is plugged into the Agp slot. There is no option in the bios to manually turn the on board gfx card off. I have a Geforce 2 mx400 plugged into the agp slot. I have tried ver 4349, 4363 and 4496 but they all do the same thing. When ever I try to start X after enabling 3d i get a black screen and cant see or do anything. I am able to telnet into my Suse 8.2 box and kill X. If I then run the switch2nv script i can then start X with no problems but as soon as I try switch2nvidia the same thing happens again. Black screen with no response except via telnet. Toshiba DVD-RAM SD-w2002 hangs system

The recent Toshiba DVD-RAM thread reminds me that I need to ask about a problem I had with my toshiba dvd ram. I'm using ext2 filesystems on my dvdrams. It seems that small transfers work fine, and reads work fine, however when someone tries to copy a large amount of data to the dvdram the machine works fine for awhile, but the load average gets higher and higher until the machine becomes unresponsive. A few times the machine has come back, if I recall correctly, but this has made the dvdram pretty useless for the reason we got it (backup). I'm running SuSE-8.1. konsole "default" font

Hello... How does "konsole" get it's settings for "normal", "tiny", etc.? How can I change them? Somehow, my upgrade to 3.1.4 seems to have changed my default konsole font to some awful-ugly font, and I'd like to change it. Yes, I know that I can set it to a "custom" font, but I'd like to be able to change the whole "family", so that secting "large" or "medium" will change to a different font in the same family (or whatever word you'd use). I've tried grepping through .kde, etc., and I just can't figure out how to set it. Thanks much in advance! -Nick

help: kdm killed xd2??

Hi everyone, I installed XD2 last night on SuSE 8.2 from vmware. everything worked just fine and i could log into it last night from gdm. this morning however gdm was gone and the irritating kdm reappeared. it has no mention of Gnome2 or any gnome for that matter and compulsively tries to log me into KDE. Now I don't understand what's happening because red-carpet shows me that all the xd2 files are properly installed. so two questions -- 1. how do i start xd2 now? 2. how do i get rid of kdm and return to gdm? thanks a lot, eugene.

Why Very Slow DNS on 8.2, But Not on WinXP?

Anyone know why name resolution using my cable provider's nameservers is impossibly slow on a standard untweaked 8.2 install, but quite fast with WinXP on the same machine, same provider, same nameservers? I see the same slowness whether or not my firewall is running, and whether or not I'm running a local cacheing nameserver. Thanks.

Anybody gotten the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe to work with SuSE Linux 8.2??? System: MOBO ASUS A7N8X Deluxe MEM 2x 512MB 333 PC7200 CPU AMD AthlonXP 3000+ (333) VGA Saphire ATI Radeon 9600 PRO It's up and running. But without the build in 3Com en NVidia network port, no sound and no 3D for the ATI. And no update's applied. Which kernel do i need to get network and sound on the MOBO to work ??? Hi all, I am working with postfix & cyrus-imap on SuSE8.1 How do I get sieve running? I have followed /usr/share/doc/packages/cyrus-imapd/doc/install-sieve.html including the example-script at the end. The problem is that test-mails do get through straight to my inbox instead of being rejected. I send those messages with the from-header info(a)waidele.biz which is the from-address that should be sieved out. Is there a step-by-step howto that combines the bits & pieces neccessary to get sieve running? Locating cause of signal

I'm having a problem with a signal, (SIGHUP), killing a running daemon, pppd! How do I find the cause of the signal, so I can stop it from happening??? I have tried debugging my connection, and nothing jumps out. Everything is clean around the timeframe of the signal. I have tried strace, yet within the time I need to trace, I would have over 65,000 lines of output. Thanks Andreas, I downloaded the qt-x11-2.3.0.tar.gz from www.trolltech.com (it's hidden on their ftp site, so you must assume that there is a source directory under the root /qt directory: ftp.trolltech.com/qt/source/qt-x11-2.3.0.tar.gz) It looks as if qt-devel isn't distributed with SLES7. Hi there folks! I am about to create a filesharing server which will have the following characteristics PIII-350 128 MB ram HD1 : 10 GB HD2 : 30 GB HD3: 30 GB The whole idea is to have SuSE Linux 7.2 on HD1 and make HD1 & HD2 Raid1 with Software-Raid to have complete rebundancy. I have never done this before. I would really appreciate any good manual, site, notes, www pages that you could recommend. Older commercial Linux games unplayable?

Yesterday I came across the first Linux game I ever bought (Loki's CivCTP), and since I hadn't had a look at it for some time, I decided to install it on 8.2. Hmmm. The install foes fine, but once you start loading the game it crashes, with the following error message: BUG! (Segmentation Fault) Going down hard... CivCTP Linux 1.1 Thu Jun 10 19:51:54 PDT 1999 Built with flags: -O2 -funroll-loops -fno-exceptions -fno-rtti -g -D_REENTRANT -DPACK=__attribute__ ((packed)) -DCIV3_SPECIES=75 -D_BFR_ -malign-double -D_SDL_STATIC_LIB -DSTATICALLY_LINKED Built with glibc-2.1 Presumably this is due to the fact that glibc has moved on to 3.3. But it raises the question now, is there ANY way to play this and other older games (eg Terminus) other than keeping a partition on the disc with an older version of SuSE on it? Presumably, without the source, you can't recompile, and I don't fancy approaching Activision et al to ask them to do it. Is there a "retro" switch on 3.3 to tell it to pretend it's 2.1? Probably not. Hello, Well, I didn't have any luck yesterday getting SuSE live evaluation to work:O( It downloaded OK through part of the afternoon and late afternoon/early evening I burned it and tried TWICE, with no luck. Now, I know how to do this. I've been through it with the Knoppix CD. I use Nero and had looked for instructions to burning an iso image. It worked fine then. Maybe this download is faulty. I might try again. I had some lovely words from someone suggesting I wait until after my visitors leave before installing Linux. He suggested I would need time to sit and get the hang of a totally new environment. Words I think I will listen to:O) Maureen.

Compiling LKCD on SLES7

I'm attempting to compile LKCD 4.1-1 + qlcrash 4.1-1 on SLES7. I've updated glibc and the kernel to 2.4.18-4GB + glibc 2.2.2-69 through YOU. I've installed the source rpms from lkcd.sf.net : lkcdutils-4.1-1.src.rpm lkcdutils-qlcrash-4.1-1.src.rpm I've installed all of the qt libraries I could find on the SLES7 CD: qt-2.3.0-70 qtlib-1.45-270 yast2-ui-qt-2.3.14-20 I've check to see there it put the libraries: /usr/lib/qt /usr/lib/qt-2.3.0 /usr/lib/qt2 (symlink to qt-2.3.0) As root, I cd to /usr/src/packages and run: rpm -bb SPECS/lkcdutils-qlcrash.spec I get a message complaining that I don't have Qt headers and libraries installed: "Qt (>= Qt 2.2.2) (headers and libraries) not found" I must be over looking something, so I check the configuration log and see: less BUILD/lkcdutils-qlcrash-4.1/config.log conftest.C:2: qglobal.h: No such file or directory conftest.C:2: qglobal.h: No such file or directory conftest.C:2: qglobal.h: No such file or directory Jonathan Paul Cowherd Linux and Java Administrator Genscape, Inc. Can print to WinXP printer from RH9.0 & Mandrake but not SuSE 8.2

Printing to an XP box worked when I tried RH 9.0 but using SuSE ... ? Added the printer using Yast2. The WinXP Server and the printer were both seen by Yast2 during installation and the "Test SMB Access" test was successful. When I print something though, it just sits on the kprinter queue and never actually prints. I'm running Samba and the workgroup in the smb.conf file is the same as on the XP machine. The contents of my /var/log/log.smbd and /var/log/log.nmbd are below and show nothing. My smb.conf is also shown below. I'm using SuSE 8.2 straight out of the box Do I even need to be running Samba to print to a WinXP box ? Please help or give me a clue where to look. Hi *.* i hope someone can help me with this problem.. I need to build the ftp-tls client from OpenBSD on an Suse 8.2 system. But I get only some error that you can find in the txt file. I not an programmer so i'm not sure was this error means. On different other linux shells that i can use the make runs without an error, but on suse nothing helps. And i could not find any helpfull infos If someone can help me with that issue or knows an resource that helps on thatit would be an big help for me. best regards Stephan

Hello, I've just this morning discovered this mailing list. I'm a total newbie to Linux, so I don't know if this is the appropriate list to write to, if not please tell me to toddle off. I've been looking at Linux for a few weeks, reading up on it and studying all the distros. I have Red Hat 8 on 2 CD's that came with the 'Linux for Dummies' book I bought, but I've also been heavily contemplating Lycoris, which seems to be very user friendly for total idiots like me. But today i received an email from Cnet with info on Suse's new version and I found myself following the link to their site and liking what i read. Can you honestly tell me if Suse is OK for a complete newbie? The installation is the part that scares me the most, I've tried hard to check all my stuff against hardware compatibility lists, Suse page for this seems to bugger up a lot, while trying to check burners it would suddenly start showing printers or sound cards. Some opinions or help as to ease of install would be very much appreciated. At the moment I am using Windows 98SE, I have a 5 year old IMB Aptiva with a second hard drive added, the original is 4 gigs and the second one is 3 gigs. The memory is upgraded to 160. I'm thinking to do a duel boot for a while, if I have enough room for both. (Drive One = 1.38 used/2.61 free/ Drive Two = .821 used/ 2.14 free.) (Drive Two can fluctuant a lot depending on digital camera images and music being and not yet transferred to disc.) Thanks for any tips or support offered:O) Maureen.

htdig image problem

I was wondering if anyone else has or had this problem: I just setup htdig on my machine at work and for some reason htdig is looking for some of it's images in /srv/www/cgi-bin/images rather then in /srv/www/htdig/images. Now some are OK. In particular the star images that htdig uses on search hits. The ones that it's not finding are the page images that it puts at the bottom of the page, i.e. page1, page2, page3, etc. Yet all the images are located in the same directory. I know there's are variable called image_url_prefix which I tried setting to no avail. Anyone have a clue? I'm stumped mostly because it's finding some images but not others that are located in the same directory. Thanks. Larry

KDE 3.1.4 and YOU security upgrades

Hi All. Stupid question time. I'm using SuSE 8.2 PRO KDE (stayed at original version, 3.1.3 seemed too buggy from mail on this list) and Yast online update. Now I thought Yast Online update was supposed to let me know about security upgrades. KDE 3.1.4's upgrade _is_ a security upgrade according to the traffic on this list. YOU on my machine is not saying boo about KDE 3.1.4. I have gotten a boatload of other security upgrades. Makes me wonder what else I might have missed waiting for the red ball in my tray. Anyone care to enlighten me as to why no red ball ? Thanks Charlie

SuSE 8.2 and PDC 640 serial camera

I've got a Polaroid PDC 640 digital camera. It's connected by serial cable to the PC. Using digikam and gtkam, I can't get it to communicate with the camera for some reason. It has a 2MB memory card, but since it's not a USB connection, I don't know what to do. I desperately need the pictures on this camera. They contain photos of the area where my friend and I were assaulted a few days ago, and I took the pictures literally 15 minutes before it started to rain, and now all the blood is washed away. Please, if anyone has any ideas, I'd sure be thankfull. I feel at the end of a rope here. I'm disabled (have been for 3 and a half years), and the officer who responded to my 911 call is pulling a 'good ol' boy' cover up (the wife of the man who attacked us, is the daughter of the local preacher man...I unfortunately live in the bible belt, and am jewish...making this an uphill climb from the get go). I meant to ask before I sent this if qt header are included somewhere I don't see? I've tried adding some of the recommended config flags in SPECS/lkcdutils-qlcrash.spec to specify the directory, libraries, and headers, but it doesn't seem to take.
