SuSE 8.2 and PDC 640 serial camera
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi list, I posted this to the NG, but my news server is down, and I couldn't find it on google or any other news servers. I've got a Polaroid PDC 640 digital camera. It's connected by serial cable to the PC. Using digikam and gtkam, I can't get it to communicate with the camera for some reason. It has a 2MB memory card, but since it's not a USB connection, I don't know what to do. I desperately need the pictures on this camera. They contain photos of the area where my friend and I were assaulted a few days ago, and I took the pictures literally 15 minutes before it started to rain, and now all the blood is washed away. Please, if anyone has any ideas, I'd sure be thankfull. I feel at the end of a rope here. I'm disabled (have been for 3 and a half years), and the officer who responded to my 911 call is pulling a 'good ol' boy' cover up (the wife of the man who attacked us, is the daughter of the local preacher man...I unfortunately live in the bible belt, and am jewish...making this an uphill climb from the get go). Thanks for any help or ideas, I really do appreciate it. Take care and be good. Maybe the permissions are set wrongly on your /dev/tty device. As far as I can remember you must have rw permissions to it. Have you tried to download the photos as root?

I just tried running digikam as root, and still get the same message: Camera Error : Failed to initialize camera. Please ensure camera is connected properly and turned on Could not transmit packet even after several retries. When I click on the camera icon to start downloading the pics, I can see a little 'arrow' in the window of the camera blinking on and off...like it's downloading the pics to my system, but after about 15 seconds, I get the above message. Thanks for the help, please don't give up yet if you have any other ideas. What does: gphoto2 --port /dev/ttyS0 --camera "Polaroid Fun Flash 640" -L --debug show? Is /dev/ttyS0 accessible? Ciao, Marcus

It's using ttyS1 (my external modem is on ttyS0). I substituted /dev/ttyS0
with /dev/ttyS1 and "Fun Flash" with "Polaroid PDC 640", and this is what I
got with running your command:

Can you check if gphoto2 --list-cameras | grep 640 lists the PDC 640? Otherwise I think that libgphoto2 was not compiled correctly. Ciao, Marcus

Hmm, then try with the : name gphoto2 --camera "Polaroid:PDC 640" --port /dev/ttyS1 -L please and check if that helps. If it doesnt, please send debugoutput with --debug. ciao, Marcus
