[opensuse] Lost disk space and strange dir ownership

On a laptop with Leap 15.0, # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on devtmpfs 3.9G 0 3.9G 0% /dev tmpfs 3.9G 0 3.9G 0% /dev/shm tmpfs 3.9G 18M 3.9G 1% /run tmpfs 3.9G 0 3.9G 0% /sys/fs/cgroup /dev/sda6 40G 37G 361M 100% / /dev/sda2 296M 46M 251M 16% /boot/efi /dev/sda7 449G 95G 332G 23% /home tmpfs 786M 4.0K 786M 1% /run/user/464 tmpfs 786M 0 786M 0% /run/user/0 tmpfs 786M 0 786M 0% /run/user/1000 Note particularly the /dev/sda6 40G 37G 361M 100% / Walking through everything in / with `du -sh` shows FAR less than 37G. (like, about 5G at most) `lsof | grep deleted` showed a handful of files owned by nscd. Stopping nscd.service showed those files gone from the `lsof` output, but no improvement in the usage reported by `df -h`. While google was busy telling me not much more useful that the above, I spotted the tmpfs 786M 4.0K 786M 1% /run/user/464 Which does not show up on the Desktop+Leap15.2 I'm currently writing this on. (and into which I logged on by going through lightdm; lightdm is def. running) Further, # ls -al /run/user/464/ ls: cannot access '/run/user/464/gvfs': Permission denied total 0 drwx------ 3 lightdm lightdm 60 Jul 27 13:29 . drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 100 Jul 27 13:21 .. d????????? ? ? ? ? ? gvfs What is up with that gfvs dir? (yes, there was other stuff in there before, I tried deleting it all but that thing just won't move). chmod(1), chown(1) just get 'permission denied' on that thing. Suggestions on any of the above puzzles? Thank you. [opensuse] OpenSUSE: simplest way to do a version upgrade

Can a version upgrade be done entirely within YaST? Specifically: 1. amend all repositories from 15.1 to 15.2 2. use Online Update to do a "force update all" Also, can this be done from within a graphical session from a user account, should it be done when logged in as root, or should it be done strictly from a command line, but not logged into a graphical session? [opensuse] 15.2 kernel update removed kernel-devel, -source and -syms (again)

All, The purge-kernels package is still removing and not updating more than it should. As in my prior e-mail, on the last kernel update for 15.2, the kernel-devel, kernel-source and kernel-syms packages were removed causing the dkms rebuild of virtualbox modules to fail. Another kernel update just took place with the same results. From the last thread it was clear this was a known issue with purge-kernels misbehaving. It's still not fixed. Do I need to file a bug or is a fix in the works? -- David C. [opensuse] How to search for Leap 15.2 bugs?

Before I will start to upgrade some computers to openSUSE Leap 15.2 I want to review the bugs for Leap 15.2. How can I do this easily? There is no filter for "openSUSE Leap 15.2" both in simple and advanced search in https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/. The bugs itself have a field "Version". I can query this field with a "Custom Search", but I would prefer a simpler solution like in the old times, where I could filter for e.g. "openSUSE 13.1" in simple search. I also miss a "openSUSE:Most annoying bugs 15.2" Wiki page. Just a heads up to those running web servers, May want to check logs for last day or two as there have been a number of attacks in the past few days (may be all days and they just got to me...) Look for attempts with: /index.php?s=/module/action/param1/${@die(sha1(xyzt))} /index.php/module/action/param1/${@die(sha1(xyzt))} /index.php?s=/Index/x5Cthinkx5Capp/invokefunction&function=call_user_func_array&vars[0]=sha1&vars[1][]=xyzt Which I'm still working to totally understand, but it is apparently an attempt to provide GET code to enable compromising your site. As usual RIPE is the prime candidate, with attacks coming from 54.38.81.0/24 54.196.169.0/24 Just something to keep an eye on. -- David C. [opensuse] Need an educated guess on installation "ex new" of Leap with encrypted /boot

The system is old, thus not really running into the UEFI problem, but has a TMP, which governs also the HDD. So kind of "legacy with secure boot". Installation (as this is a laptop) should be as safe as possible, without going to far to put the boot partition onto a usb key, that would be overkill. I had so fare a /boot (unencrypted) and an LVM with / (root /home and swap) encrypted. I know that Leap has made some progress on this behalf and wanted to know: what are the available options for an encrypted install, what are advantages / disadvantages you think worth of notice and although I googled and found some, if you have some link with important information about this, feel free to share. File system: EXT4 on all partitions with exception of boot were it was up to now ext2. Space: it is a 500 GB disk with now /boot (400 mb), /swap 8GB (I have 8 GB of RAM and do often suspend to disk), /root 58 GB (this is a lot, but given all the debug libraries and that I have a lot of software installed, makes the system safe for some "upgrades"). /home (403 GB). I am looking forward on suggestions about available options. Regards. [opensuse] I am confused about btrfs default subvolume

I noticed this on 15.2 but I think it worked the same way on 15.1. The default subvolume always seems to be snapshot 1 even though that is not the most recent snapshot. btrfs sub get-default / ID 265 gen 6686 top level 264 path @/.snapshots/1/snapshot Indeed that is what gets mounted (apparently) on root. /dev/mapper/system-root152 on / type btrfs (rw,relatime,ssd,space_cache,subvolid=265,subvol=/(a)/.snapshots/1/snapsh ot) Every time zypper installs updates it makes new before and after snapshots and I would think the default subvolume and the currently mounted subvolume would need to be the NEW snapshot, not snapshot 1. Nevertheless (a very fancy word) the system seems to work just fine so I think I just don't understand default subvolumes. I have read the opensuse wiki about btrfs, subvolumes and snapshots and I have read the kernel wiki about that. It always makes me think the newest snapshot is the one used. Is there an explaination for this somewhere? Can someone on the list explain it? Is snapshot 1 and the newest snapshot the same thing? Thanks.
