In laying out the threat the trade war poses, Yeargin identified the three ways that Trump's trade fights are contributing to pain for US manufacturers: 1 Tariffs caused the price of imported parts to increase: Tariffs act as taxes on imports, which in turn cause the prices of the goods hit with those taxes to increase. ... 2 The prices of US goods are also increasing due to market distortions: Correct Craft sources nearly all of the aluminum sheet used in its boats from the US — more than 90% according to Yeargin — but this has not protected the company from price increases. As domestic producers have seen foreign prices rise, so too have US aluminum producers used this new pricing power. [opensuse] Leap 15.0 repo question

We have an internal mirror that we use in house. I have one machine out of many where I get this error when trying to do updates. Just started happening. Just noticed today actually. File './repodata/263f5a933ae8bc1d1e8ed28ad2c01ee131a313f7e927dfde002b664bab50d2dc-primary.xml.gz' not found on medium 'http://opensuse.cc.local/update/leap/15.0/oss/' So it appears the problem is local to this one machine. [opensuse] How to remove binary garbage from the front of a binary file??

All, I don't know the origin of these files, but I have a 100GB of corrupted PST files. >From what I can tell some sort of a processing / extraction tool went haywire and prepended binary junk in the front of the real data. The actual start of the data is a header with !BDN as the first 4 chars. The prepended junk from what I've seen can be roughly from 10-500 binary octets (chars). It is sort of like ram slack, but at the start of the files. (No idea how that happened). If I knew for certain that the binary junk didn't have any newlines in it, this sed script would get rid of the junk: find . -name \*.pst -exec sed -e '1s/^.*!BDN/!BDN/' -i "{}" \; I know I can write a program to do the same but working in binary and not worrying about intervening newlines. Is there a relatively straight forward way to accomplish the above? fyi: I'm going to try and get replacement uncorrupted data files as well, but that might be easier said than done. [opensuse] how to add a group?

I need to create a new group - 'plugdev' - and make my user a member of the group (it's apparently necessary for android dev tools). My first try was to go into YaST, make the new group and add myself to it. That appeared to work. But when I tested, it appears it hadn't: $ id uid=1000(dhoworth) gid=100(users) groups=100(users),16(dialout) So I started a new terminal window, in case that was necessary. Same output. So I went back into YaST and it shows I am a member of plugdev. But I still get the same output from the id command in a terminal. I looked in /etc/group and I'm listed as a member there. Here's another log from the terminal: dhoworth@acer-suse:~$ groups users dialout dhoworth@acer-suse:~$ groups dhoworth dhoworth : users dialout plugdev dhoworth@acer-suse:~$ whoami dhoworth What on earth is going on? [opensuse] Local rpm storage/cache

Hi I do a lot of testing at home and experimenting so I often have something like 10 virtual installs with opensuse running. Up to recently I had a unofficial mirror for base and update repositories. A simple cron job every night used wget to sync my local repository. By configuring my vm's to use this local repository I avoided downloading the same file again for each vm, during repeated install experiments and system updates. Now I am looking to replace my local mirror with something more flexible, so suggestions, best practice, pointers to examples is welcome. I not sure, but think that I'v seen a article on some Opensuse site, describing a solution based on nfs mounting the download directory on all hosts. [opensuse] Why can't VLC on opensuse play .mp4 file that plays fine in VLC for windows?

All, I do not do online video stuff often, but had a link from SO question about a 2-body problem for a game engine that I tried to look at: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WExMN1jGknjy4k8qg9MLE5S459eqQIY-/view?usp=… When I attempt to watch with VLC on 42.3 it tells me no codec for mp4a and error in part 10. Opening the same file in VLC on Win7 plays just fine Is there something that I've screwed up in my VLC install (from packman) or is this a no codec on Linux issue? -- David C. [opensuse] vlc title bar

Sometimes when VLC starts, it starts in the top-left corner of the screen and doesn't have a title bar, so there's no minimise, maximise and close buttons. Does anybody have any idea how or why this happens, or any way to stop this annoying habit? [opensuse] setting up ssh

So I just finished installing Leap 15.0 on my laptop. Nice. So far things look good. One question - how do I get port 22 to open on startup as well as get the sshd service to run on startup? On previous versions of opensuse, I went into # /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 and changed the appropriate line to FW_CONFIGURATIONS_EXT="sshd" Then I typed in insserv sshd as root and that set it up to always run.
