[opensuse] What happened to repair?

I was working on a system that lacked a sane bios. Suffice to say I ran into problems and when I went looking for repair system under install I didn't find it. I was using a net install CD. [opensuse] 11.3 webpin - still broken...

Guys, I got partial results back from the 11.3 webpin web interface. This is progress, but still basically useless for finding anything relevant. After I have installed all from KDE:/Release:/45, I still get an on-line update suggestion of updating to KDE 4.3.5. This is coming from the 11.2 repo. I will of course not select this. But what might happen if an unsuspecting person selects this update suggestion? [opensuse] How to change video driver?

Hi, I'm still getting frequent, intermittent hangs which I believe is due to a conflict between the kernel 2.6.34.7-0.3-desktop and the nvidia video driver 256.53-16.1. I'd like to try switching to the opensource nv/nouveau driver, but I'm not sure how to go about it. The xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau 0.0.15 is installed, according to yast. Any suggestions, please? [opensuse] kde4 - oxygen - how to turn off bright focus rectangle around edit window in kate/kwrite?

Guys, In kde 4.5.2, when kate has focus, there is a bright colored rectangle (focus indication) that draws itself around the editing window in kate/kwrite. This drives me batty as I have a dark background and dark decorations with this bright gold rectangle splashed in the middle of the editor. I've switched to Qt-Curve in the mean time (which looks pretty good). I've looked through the oxygen advanced style settings to try and find a way to turn this focus highlight off and I've looked through kate settings as well, but I still can't find a way to turn the editor window highlight off. (I DON'T want to change the highlight color in 'colors' as it works great for the theme, I just don't want the bright rectangle drawn around the editor window in kate/kwrite) Howto fix? -- David C. [opensuse] repomd.xml problem any solution ?

Hello SuSE people This week I installed Opensuse 11.3 on a machine, it was good enough , but I cannot update and I cannot download additional software from other repositories either with Yast or zypper. Every time I get messages mentioning a problem with a repomd.xml file. I searched the net and found a lot of people asked what to do with this same issue, for weeks, but did not find a solution. someone suggested to remove file /root/. netrc, but there is none. I seem to have managed some update, by using the installation DVD , reentering langage and keyboard layout, then using / installation/updating existing system. It changes the list of repositories by removing all the additional ones I was able to add (such as packman, videolan) ; but automatic updates, yast updates and zypper updates do not work. Has anyone tried the wdm display manager enabled for remote host logins? If so, how do you get the list of available remote hosts? I've got the wdm working alright for local X sessions, but I can not find a way to get the list of available remote hosts to login to. Any input appreciated. /Lars Stavholm PS I've verified that the remote hosts are there and accepting connections by means of kdm3. It works nicely. [opensuse] Paste into Chrome browser in KDE

I am having a difficult time pasting into Chromium browser. If you copy text from one tab, and try to paste in another tab its hit or miss whether it works or not. Disable "enable clipboard actions" so that you don't have context menus popping up every time you copy a URL and you just about never paste anything. Clipper has the option to sync the selection and the clipboard and the selection. [opensuse] how to store passwords with Konqueror?

Hello, with Suse 11.3 it seems impossible that Konqueror stores passwords? I have heard about the "theory" that a window should pop up and asking about whether I want to store the password? Doesn't seem to happen. And then there is KWallet. Opening it one "wallet" seems to be there, saying "The name org.kde.kwalletd was not provided by ans .service files." which is unfortunately the typical bad message style: It doesn't tell me what is expected (is this an error or not), and if it is expected, why it is expected, and due to which facts it thinks that the expectations are not met. Finally, if there is a problem, how to solve it? The KWallet documentation doesn't speak about problems (unfortunately, this seems to be the "standard" for KDE documentation; apparently there are never any problems). Can anybody help? Oliver P.S. In the past, with older Suse versions, KWallet never worked, and I always had to use Firefox. I got the impression (from the Internet) that now KWallet seems to work in some cases? When going to KDE wallet configuration, there is "Enable KDE wallet subsystem"?? What could this mean? And the same message "The name org.kde.kwalletd was not provided by ans .service files." appears for the automatic wallet selection? Apparently the "subsystem" (???) has to be enabled? If this is the case, then how can one know about this? Even the existence of Kwallet is not mentioned for example somewhere in Konqueror? And apparently enabling this "subsystem" means just enabling "Kwallet"?? Guys/kde4 devs, I'm using kde 4.5.2 and one of the biggest annoyances in konqueror file management the inability to set focus on a file or directory in an efficient way with selection markers off. I have opened a bug at kde.org: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=253527 (please add comments there - in short:) In KDE4 4.5.2 (and versions prior) konqueror failes to properly place focus on the file or directory in detail or tree view when you click in the area after the file name in the "Name" column. In fact, if the user turns off selection markers, there is no way to place focus on a file or directory without right-clicking on the actual file or directory name and then canceling the resulting context menu. In KDE3 - it was simple. If you wanted to focus a file or directory you just clicked in the blank area to the right of the filename. If you wanted to launch the file or open the directory, you just clicked on the filename or dirname itself. Clean and efficient. (screenshot attached to bug report) Steps to Reproduce: turn off selection markers and try and set focus with the left-mouse on a file or dir without launching it -- it is impossible. Is there some technical limitation in kde4 that makes implementing what seems like such a simple and logical feature we had in kde3 impossible? -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E. [opensuse] gmixer stopped working

After the today zypper dup I found that gmixer is not working anymore. Among others the gstreamer files were all updated. [opensuse] fyi - sftp url parsing (with included port) broken in 11.3 kde3 - fish OK - howto work around?

I've run across a strange issue with sftp on 11.3 kde3 after recent updates. Attempting to connect to my server on my LAN with sftp, I get the following error: Unexpected sftp error: 2 - konqueror Error encountered while talking to ssh I don't know what recent update may have caused this (I suspect openssl), but it isn't suse specific. It also broke on Arch. The strange thing with both is 'fish' works fine -- even on a non-standard port. (apparently fish respects ~/.ssh/config) Another data point I have is that sftp still works fine with 11.0. So I guess whatever update 11.3 got that 11.0 didn't is causing the issue. I've checked syslog and nothing gets logged with the failure. It looks like a command line parsing issue. In konqueror, if I enter the url in the following form (as I've done for at least 4 years): sftp://user@host:port/dir1/dir2 sftp gives the error. However in 11.3 if I use the command line and do: sftp -Pport user@host:/dir1/dir2 I connect just fine. So it looks like the string kde3 now sends to ssh isn't working anymore. Ahah!! I just checked another box from 11.3 that uses the default port 22 as the ssh port and I can connect in konqueror in 11.3 via sftp just fine! Bingo. So I guess I need to know where I can try and fix this?? It seems that whatever changed in ssh no longer lets kde3 specify sftp locations as: sftp://user@host:port/dir1/dir2 Any thoughts on how I can work around this problem?? cc: Tim Pearson -- David C. I have a new openSUSE 11.2 system with this display: DELL P170S 17" TFT The graphics in the system (cannot change it...) is a ATI chipset with only a VGA connector. X says this on the system: (II) RADEON(0): Found color CRT connected to primary DAC (II) RADEON(0): Output: VGA-0, Detected Monitor Type: 1 (II) RADEON(0): Total number of valid Screen mode(s) added: 0 (II) RADEON(0): Output: DVI-0, Detected Monitor Type: 0 (II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 connected (II) RADEON(0): Output DVI-0 disconnected (II) RADEON(0): Using fuzzy aspect match for initial modes (II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 using initial mode 1024x768 In fact, the display can operate at 1280x1024. But as autodetection is not functioning, it is operating in 1024x768. Does anyone just happen to have the mode lines and all for this monitor? No it is not necessary. The X server looks for the fonts in the parent folder and automatically update the configurations adding new folders an fonts. It is what I did and it worked perfectly::all the new fonts became available after restarting the X server. [opensuse] Adding X fonts without an xorg.conf file

If I do not have (want) an xorg.conf file, but I want to add fonts to the system, what is the preferred location? They are ttf fonts. So I guess I could add them to /usr/share/fonts/truetype. But I really do not like adding things to directories I see as being managed by the system. It seems that X does not look, by default (i.e., without an xorg.conf file), in all folders in /usr/share/fonts. [opensuse] Science repo: Build against 11.3:Update?

Hi, sorry if this is not the right place to ask, but there does not seem to be a list for the science repository on obs. Currently, coot does not build on oS 11.3 because of a GtkGLExt bug. The bug has already been fixed, but one would have to build against 11.3:Update to use the fix. Would it be a problem to change the config accordingly? I want to write new data to a DVD+RW. This drive or media does not support the 'BLANK media' command wodim: Cannot blank disk, aborting. I also get the same error using blank=fast, FWIW. The drive is capable of writing to DVD+RW as far as I know e.g. <http://www.burn4free.com/toshiba-samsung-storage-technology-corporation/tss…> I'm a bit worried by "Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW" but I don't fully understand what that means; I'm not a CD/DVD expert.
