[oS-EN] Found firefox feature tab unload

Hi, I just discovered a "new" firefox feature. I have a low power tiny computer which I use as server and to display videos. It often runs a firefox window with maybe five tabs, each on one youtube link that I follow, so to easily watch the next video in the series when I am on the mood. Problem: each tab eats a significant amount of CPU power. Solution: open a tab with "about:unloads" and click the "unload" button several times, to unload from memory the tabs using most resources. The computer went to maybe 5% instead of 25% cpu. Tabs that are "unloaded" by this are actually unloaded, they are blanked. So no cpu, and no ram. I assume that clicking on a tab awakes it again. Not tried yet. Yes, it does. But you have to click reload on "about:unloads" so that the awakened tab is listed again in the tab running the list And the reloaded tab remembers it was in mid-play, I mean, remembers the position. On my main computer releasing memory is not important. What interests me is freezing the cpu usage of tabs. Do you know something for that? Previously I tried this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/play-or-pause-tab-menu-item/ Doesn't quite work, it just pauses the play, but the tab still eats cpu. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. YaST .../wizard/style.qss - font-size: 10.5pt makes the interface much more readable (like installation.qss)

All, YaST gui in TW for software management had fonts that made it look awkward. I picked around and found the .qss theme files and the installation.qss contains: * { font-family:"Source Sans 3",sans; font-size: 10.5pt } But the default style.qss has no font size and the fonts are much larger. I suspect if you have current KDE or have the Gtk version installed on a Gtk desktop then current desktop theming may provide a font size setting for YaST, but for other desktops, YaST Software Management just appears to have big fonts. If you are faced with the same issue, just edit the .qss file of your choosing in /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current/wizard/ and add the 4 lines above. I find the 10.5 font size about right. (you can try all themes by pressing [Shift + F3] and choosing from the list) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Tumbleweed on 6.13 kernel, Nvidia G04/G05 Patches Ready (and confirmed working)

All Nvidia G04/G05 Users, Tumbleweed is now on the 6.13 kernel. There was a minor patch for the Nvidia G04 (ver. 390) and G05 (ver. 470) drivers that changed how the Kbuild (make) files generate symlink paths from using relative paths to absolute paths to avoid potential issues depending on the current working directory when symlinks are generated. Patches are available, but until we get guidance on if it is okay to make updated packages available, you will need to patch manually. G04 patch: https://paste.opensuse.org/pastes/904d046b6eb8 G05 patch: (where the G04 patch was taken from) https://gist.github.com/joanbm/d1f89391a4b20f4b56ba931ef6ca62da (patches are essentially identical, just a 2-line difference in offset) I've patched and built new packages to test for personal use, and they work fine. Up and running on Tumbleweed with the 6.13 kernel using the updated 6.13 kernel patch for the drivers. The drivers for the 6.12 kernel should also continue to work as it doesn't look like the build file relative/absolute path issue should cause any difference in the build -- but I haven't tested that. Desktop size v.s. Screen size is not correct on one of my monitors

Hello OpenSuSE mail list - I'm running OpenSuSE 15.6 x64 with the sddm desktop manager, X11 display manager, and the KDE 5 /Plasma desktop. I recently swapped out a 50 inch Westinghouse monitor for a Sharp 60 inch monitor thinking doing so should just work after doing a reboot. Hump! I was wrong! I have ended up with both virtual and real desktops that are approx 10% larger than my monitors screen. My monitor supports 1920 x 1080 resolution with what I calculated a DPI at 37 DPI. By "virtual desktop" I am referring to the "desktop" that is used when one presses the esc key during the boot up phase to see the progress being made while the system is starting up; or to the "desktop" (shell??) that is shown when one presses the Ctrl - Alt - F3 keys when at the login screen, to reach what was called the init 3 level. Each of these desktops do not display the beginning of output lines because the virtual desktop is larger than the actual physical screen. The same situation occurs when the actual KDE desktop is shown after logging in. But also the top, bottom, and both sides of the desktop are cut off. For example I cannot see the kicker bar at the bottom of my screen because it is being shown below the bottom of my actual screen. (Unless I make it super large) I have a smaller terminal that shows a clone view of the desktop (after logging in) and it displays the full desktop just fine. verbose poweroff (shutdown)

Hello: This is an openSUSE Leap 15.6 system. I prefer verbose boot and shutdown therefore I have deleted plymouth and set up basic text based grub2 boot manager, and removed splash=quiet option. This resulted in a verbose bootup and verbose poweroff (shutdown) process. But for some reason recently poweroff became silent (that is, during shutdown the screen on vt1 doesn't change, no messages are shown). Bootup did not change, it is still verbose. I would like to get back verbose shutdown. What should I check? What can change the verbosity only of the shutdown without affecting bootup? Thanks in advance, Istvan

Problem with skype instalation via snap

Since yesterday I was informed that my skype account could not be used anymore. I was told to reinstall skype via snapy. Worked through all the instructins and ended up with following info: sudo snap install skype snap "skype" is already installed, see 'snap help refresh' But where to go to get the installed skype to startup?

Hi, Situation. On laptop I run "tmux new". On desktop I run "ssh laptop", then "tmux attach". How do I exit tmux on the desktop, leaving it intact in the laptop? I read the manual, but I don't know how this operation is called. I try "^B-&" but I get an ominous message. I might find the pid of the ssh session and kill that process. Normally I simply power off or hibernate the desktop, and the laptop continues running happily the tmux session. There must be an obvious way of doing it. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
