Guys, I have followed a couple site on turning off the martian source so that dmesg is flooded. Is there anything else I can do? [opensuse] modprobe question

On my machine I am running xawtv in corner of my screen in order to keep an eye on the program and switch to my TV screen if it starts to become interesting. When using Skype I want to use my webcam. I run xawtv with the instruction to use video1 (xawtv -c /dev/video1) and keep the Skype on video0. In order to achieve that I have to give a "#modprobe bttv" before using xawtv. I assume that there must an easier way to achieve that but did not find out the howto. with reference to this thread http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-help-here/network-internet/448586-nn… several nntp users on the openSUSE forum have discussed an unexpected change in the line preceding the nntp signature from "--" to "- --" when using several different Linux mail/usenet clients and signing the message with OpenPGP.. while it doesn't seem to be a problem with the clients (and i highly doubt it to be an openSUSE problem) i failed in trying to google and learn if: 1. it is a bug in OpenPGP 2. if a bug, if it has been reported 3. the extra "- " just what the nntp/pgp RFC calls for 4. it is a bug in PGP 5. it is a bug in the interaction between nntp and PGP/OpenPGP 6. ??? any event, if anyone can tell me anything about where to ask or report, i'd appreciate it.. sorry if i overlooked an easily found answer, DenverD -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe(a)opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help(a)opensuse.org

Hi all, I'm using xen for quite a while, and personally i'm quite satisfied with it. However, regularly i've got questions about KVM/vmware, so i want to be able to provide it also. But not "instead of xen". >From the latest weekly rapport i understand (correct me if i am wrong) that a system can either host virtual xen-images OR kvm-images, but never both simultaneously. Is this indeed so? And if so is this a choice or something more fundamental.... I mean, with 8 cores and 36G mem, it is a waste to have a dedicated machine for one or two KVM-images. [opensuse] D-Bus daemon hanging #2

I've just noticed a different problem that also appears to be an out of control dbus daemon. (1) ssh -X to a machine running opensuse2 (2) start firefox (3) quit firefox (4) logout of the ssh via ctrl-d Result: the session fails to terminate. Looking with ps I see dhoworth 30675 1 0 13:56 ? 00:00:00 dbus-launch --autolaunch 7b3efb92d4779debd063b9394aef7162 --binary-syntax --close-stderr dhoworth 30676 1 0 13:56 ? 00:00:00 /bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session The same happens if I run gedit but not with xeyes Is this a known problem? [opensuse] 11.2 nvidia Upgrading fails nvidia.ko module linking

Hello List, I've already sent something related to this not critical issue in the past and I'm again posting on the matter since I've recently upgraded nvidia drivers onto my openSUSE 11.2 x86_64 which still encountered same problem: kernel version is updated but nvidia.ko went still installed onto an old /lib/...kernel version on my machine so I'm obliged to create a symbolic link into the latest kernel /lib/modules...folder. Sorry to be not clear enough on the details, but I'm at work and far from the affected system, by the way I hope you get the point. [opensuse] D-Bus daemon hanging

Hi All, I've run in to a problem with OpenSuSE 11.3 where the boot sequence hangs at "Starting D-Bus daemon". Quick searches on the net seems to suggest that this happens when ldap is used for authentication in conjuction with autofs being enabled. I've just started using LDAP for authentication and I simultaneously enabled autofs. Anyone else run in to this? Any workarounds? Any input appreciated.
