Dell/Compaq Hidden Partitions

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I don't seem to be able to get a clear answer from the other lists I have tried, lists to remain nameless. I want to repartition a hard drive to make room for Linux partitions in a dual-boot configuration. I tried using Partition Magic but it reports a non-standard partition and exits without making any changes. I have discovered that both Dell and Compaq create non-standard hidden partitions on their hard drives, the reason apparently open to debate. Does anyone know how to get around this non-standard partition? I'd appreciate any assistance here. -- Donald D. Anyone have issues upgrading to xorg 6.8.1

I'm currently running xorg 6.7.0 on my SUSE 9.1 box and have seen 6.8.1 in apt repositories for a while now and wanted to know if anyone had success one way of the other in upgrading. I'd heard of some issues with the X config files having name changes (Keyboard to keyboard) and causing some issues, so I've been a little skeptical. Thanks.

Funny fonts

Hi, I noticed, when I updated from suse 8.2 to 9.1 last june, that the fonts in WDM (graphical login) were too big, and were clipped. I didn't bother to look it up, not important. It could be because I'm using a smallish display, 1024x768. Then, a few weeks back, I had to install a pair of windows fonts, arial and times - but I did not install the whole set. As I have win Me in anothre partition, I simply copied them over, prety fast. I did not even have to log off, my gnome session picked them up in OO and some other apps. However, balsa lost bold fonts suddenly. When I logged off and on, I noticed that the size of fonts in WDM was smaller, not clipped. The whole gnome session was using smaller fonts. So, having a little idea, I installed the rest of the Arial family. Hey, presto: Balsa had again bold fonts, and WDM looked nicer. How come? Some XWindows applications were set to use windows fonts, Arial family, in preference to Linux native fonts? I can't believe it. I happened to be at LinuxWorld Conference in San Francisco two months ago, where Novell was demonstrating a beta version of the Novell Desktop. OOo 1.1 error on opening sxc file

Hi, I have 'developed' a spreadsheet system that allows me to keep track of my online time, costs and MB in/out on a yearly basis, from data exported from the kppp log viewer ie I have one file for 2003 and another for 2004. A single line, of 4 columns, in the 2003 spreadsheet is linked to the 2004 one so that the yearly averages can be carried across from year to year. Each time I open the 2004 spreadsheet the averages from 2003 are also included and hence the 2003 spreadsheet also opens. This is something I have accepted BUT in the last couple of days the averages have not been imported from 2003, nor has the 2003 spreadsheet been opened as OOo reports an error as listed below: Error loading document <doc path and name> Read error Format error discovered in sub document styles.xml at 2.39117{row,col) Each year has approx 16 sheets in it and those containing data only have >100 rows of information in 8 columns. Where do I start in solving this OOo error? I would of course prefer not to lose the data for 2003. I have tried rebooting and then opening the sxc file with no luck. I have looked at OOo help for 'Validity of Cell Contents' and others, also with no help. In the future they will be, basically building there own desktop. This will be build from ximian-KDE-gnome best of features from what I understand. But at this point its all KDE. just the way I like it... Hi list; I was wondering where the place to start apache2 SSL. If our web box ever restarts it only starts with http not our secure pages. Where do I change autostart to start https on reboot? Thanks

Stuck creating DNS zone file

HI all, I am totally stuck creating a zone file for a domain. This is the first time I have had to do this and I am a bit confused. Basically, the name servers for the domain to be hosted are ns1.myhost.com and ns2.myhost.com The domain I am to setup is domaintohost.com Is the following correct if I want to point web for the domain to xxx.xxx.xxx.11 ? and mail to mail.myhost.com ??? I also want the domain to work if I do either of http://domantohost.com or http://www.homaintohost.com. Can anyone point me in the direction of any changes i need to make for this work ? ;domaintohost.com. $TTL 86400 @ IN SOA ns1.myhost.com. postmaster.domaintohost.com.
