Hello, I've not found radius plugin in ppp-packet of Suse Linux 9.1. Why? Also, I have a problems with compilation of ppp-2.4.2 because it packet need old autoconf. Do you can help me to find full ppp-2.4.2 with radius plugin for suse linux 9.1? Thank you. Nick

Hi All, i am trying to setup squid with pam authentication.I want basic http authentication with squid i have setup squid for basic authentication to use pam_auth.When the client wants to browse the net he gets the username/passwd prompt but does not authenticate. I am not sure how pam works do u need to add a username/passwd to pam asin smb? Can someone please help me in understanding how pam works and how to solve my problem with squid, thanks? Latest APT error message - conflicts

OK, now that I have installed each of the ULB packages individually (because that seemed to be the only thing that worked), I am not getting any unsigned package errors. Regarding the origial posting where xp boots in 22 seconds and suse slower, I became curious. My machine is a laptop with a mobile pentium 1.4 Ghz, 256 MB ram, don't think the other specs are that relevant. I have SuSe 9.1 and WinXP dual boot with Grub. From the boot menu (with a stopwatch) here are my results: Win XP boot - 2 min 11 seconds (when I can first start to run a program). Has lots of programs loaded but nothing on the quick launch bar. Suse 9.1 - 2 min 4 seconds (when I can first click on an icon to start). Most software installed except development stuff. Neither OS is fully optimized, and Suse I just installed last week, so I still have to tune it. Not slower than XP! Gus.

What is Suse 9.1.42 ?

The Suse 9.1 update tree now includes 9.1.42, which among other things contains the kernel-2.6.8 package. When and why was the split to 9.1.42 and should we apply these 'updates' to suse pro 9.1 machines? Will 'you' automatically pull these updates? This is of interest, because we want kernel-2.6.8 which is the first to incorporate the 3w-9xxx driver. Thanks a lot for your friendly and detailed answer; But unfortunately, I have not the opportunity for compiling KDE by myself, because I am alone and have expensive internet costs with narrowband dialup (modem) connection in my country. For once, I tried compiling Gnome 2.6 on my computer and was disappointing... I prefer to complete that Gnome project rather than starting deal with KDE... Can you help me? KDE is a C++ desktop, GNOME and Windows are C based. As such, KDE bas a lot of virtual-table linking that has to go on before a program starts. You can use the pre-linking option which will pre-link what it can before hand. This produces wonderful results, though it is still slower than C-based (because the linking is still much less.) KDE is a nirvana of design. It has a high class-reuse, and because of that, there is a lot of linking. But with processor speeds doubling every 18 months, the KDE project will suck for users, but will ultimately be the more maintainable design. Look at the features of each Release from GNOME and KDE. KDE achieves more. And you numers do seem low. Maybe Suse diabled pre-linking in their build? I'd suggest compiling KDE yourself using Konstruct over the weekend. It will take you probably 2 days to compile all of it. Once started though, you can let it go. When you are done, follow the instructions and you can check out the Konstruct compile of KDE without effecting your system, only your user account, and only while you have the enironment variables set.
