Hi List, I have a question about Postfix and Lotus Notes.. Well more a step-by step how to.. I have read loads of documentation, but I’m still a bit confused. I’m a Linux newbie and I’ve still got a huge learning curve to go. Here is our current setup :- SDSL Line via Scarlet to a SonicWall Pro 100. This has a DMZ port. Attached to the hub that is connected to the DMZ port of the SonicWall is a Cobalt Qube. This Qube acts as our MTA using sendmail-8.9.2. This then in turn forwards the emails onto our Lotus Notes server, which we use for email and also our project management databases. The Qube has been working great until the beginning of this year and now it’s just not powerful enough to cope will all our emails and also the spam mails also. On Friday alone I had to reboot the Qube 3 times as it crashed and would not respond. I would like to replace the Qube with a PC with SuSE 9.1 Pro installed and Postfix. Being new to Linux and even newer to Postfix, I haven’t got a clue and I would rather try to do it myself than pay someone externally to do this for me. IPsec - spddelete not fixed in current SuSE linux-2.6.5-7.108 ker nel

Once I modified the 2.6.6 kernel to also set the family for spddeletes, the policy is correctly deleted. I"ll send out a patch for this once I get approval for it. In the meantime, if you want to fix it yourself, feel free to. The function that needs to be changed in the kernel is pfkey_spddelete, and it just needs to set sel.family appropriately based on the family of the source or destination address." In the vanilla kernel 2.6.8.1 it has been corrected. The functions involved are in :/usr/src/linux-2.6.8.1/net/key/af_key.c When is this likely to be incorporated in an on line update version? Replacing Red Hat with SuSE.

OK ... If this where a single boot Linux box I would not hesitate to just through SuSE on the machine but here is what I am facing. I have a IBM think pad that is configured as a dual boot Linux / Windoze system. The only reason Windoze is on there is at times when I need it at client sites, I don't use it myself. Since Red Hat has dropped free iso distribution, I have decided if I am going to pay for Linux I am going to use SuSE which is IMHO a far superior product the Red Hat Enterprise. Now back to the issues. As i said the laptop is a dual boot Linux / Windoze system with GRUB as the boot loader. All works fine now and my inclination is to leave things as they are. However the Red Hat 9.0 that is on there is getting farther and farther away from current. My main concerns with laying SuSE 9.1 Pro over the Red Hat distribution that is on there are two.... First overwriting of the MBR and losing GRUB and there by not being able to boot Windoze, and second getting the XFree86 to come up. Once I get there configuring the rest of SuSE is no problem. I did have had the problem of the MBR overwrite happen on an old Red Hat 6.x install. I don't remember how I fixed it but I remember it was hell Anyone have any experience here?? For completness the laptop is an IBM 600 series with a 12 gig HD and 328 MB RAM All comments welcome -- ############################################# # John N. Mozilla freezes when composing e-mail

I'm running Mozilla on SuSE 9.1 on my ThinkPad R31. I have notice that when composing e-mail, the display appears to freeze for several seconds. Occasionally when this happens, Mozilla will die, without any error messages. This problem occurs with both Mozilla 1.7.2 and the repacked 1.7.2, that SuSE calls 1.7.3. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? tnx jk

Thank you for your notice, I want to add some comments: 1- My Linux setup and boot are on default settings (In fact, I am not so foolish to add unused services to the boot progress!) 2- In Windows OSs, I've installed a few programs and updates, but I accept that its boot time becomes slow and slower when you install more programs, though, the worsts are those who add startup items. 3- In both Linuces, I've installed nVIDIA binary driver (61.06) that works well, better than Windows drivers; But this driver only affects 3d games, no considerable difference in other programs. 4- When I speak about the applications, I mean the time for invoke them, not the time for doing special tasks inside. 5- I became tired in trying install Gnome 2.6 on both SuSE 9.1 and RedHat 9.0; Generally, installed RPM packages prevent the detection of newer versions installed from source code; In addition, removing the old rpm ruins the system... Gnome 2.8?! I see only 2.6 in the site! 6- My intention is not hiding the great advantages of linux systems, such as: no need for restart, being open-source and many more; I wish its desktop would be faster. 7- The file system used here is ext3. 8- How much features do you think SuSE have that is worth putting your hand under your chin for several seconds after any click? 9- Is Mandrake Linux better in performance? Kernel freezing disk access

Hello, My linux box is having this strange crash every time i access some files in my 2nd HHD. Samba and SuSE 9.1

Hi, I've set up my share of samba+ldap servers, but today I needed a quick way to set up a pdc I'm not going to admin so I thought I'd try to set up SuSE 9.1 pro as simple as possible. However, it seems to me that yast does not offer a way to admin users so that when you add a local user a user will be created in samba as well. Is this true? If not, how can I configure Yast so that I may admin my users there and get them working in a windowscontext as well? Is this possible with any SuSE 9.1 samba w/(ldap|mysql|smbpasswd|tdb) combo? ext3 problems

Hi all, i'm having problem with ext3 on Suse 8.2: EXT3-fs error (device sd(8,17)): ext3_readdir: bad entry in directory #2654270: rec_len % 4 != 0 - offset=13, inode=4093651072, rec_len=527, name_len=2 this server has a replica of data contained on another server which is running RH7.3 and gives no problem on the ext3. The FileSystem affected is mounted via NFS and backed up with cpbk. Many other FS backed-up the same way don't give any problem. has anybody got any hints on this. Two linux distros and Windows XP which I need for medical programs that won't run on any emulator. I have two linux distros one to work and one to experiment. Previously the work was Red Hat 9, and Fedora 1 was my experimental. I switched to Fedora to work and then I installed Suse 9.1 where Red Hat 9 previously lived. The insallation of Suse 9.1 pro was virtually flawless, but it only included the XP and Suse in the boot options when it installed GRUB. I had to manually add the Fedora boot commands (from the fedora grub.conf file) to the Suse menu. It did not cause any problems with windows XP booting and SAX2 helped me reconfigure the display and synaptics touch pad without much fuss (the installation display was OK but not quite right. And what is great is that the ACPI worked out of the box, no more problems with running out of battery power and I can now close the lid while the system is on without it crashing! I now work on Suse 9.1 and still experiment with Fedora 1. I have separate /boot, /, and /home partitions for both distros and a common swap. My machine is a compaq presario 2800 laptop with 30MB hard drive and 256Mb RAM. Gus.
