Already looked at it from a previous suggestion, and it looks like a great tool. I'm still waiting for my new v8.2 to arrive, and I'll give that a whirl. How does Crossover differ from Wine? I saw a link on the crossover web site referring to Wine; Wine had a database listing of all Windows apps that were tested under Wine. Is this the same for crossover? Still doing some research, so I might have missed it. Just a thought, but have you looked into mplayer and mencoder? Mplayer is a video player with comes with an encoder (mencoder) that allows you to convert a video/audio stream from one format to another. In your case, you should be able to tell it to deal with just audio. If you type in: mplayer -ac help it should show you all of your installed (A)udio (C)odecs. You should then be able to use mencoder to do the rest of the work. I would imagine that if you can play the file with mplayer, you should be able to convert it. Check out the man page. I'm sure there are other ways to do this too. I haven't actually tried this, but it seems like it should work. Hi, has anyone managed to get Internet Explorer 6sp1 working on their Suse 8.2 installation? If so, what did you have to do? I need it for a stupid application (cyberwatcher) that needs IE instead of better browsers. Tarjei

suse usage restrictions in a company

what is permitted by suse's license; is it allowed to use a 8.x copy of suse in a company or must each suse workstation be installed with a bought copy of suse? Phrased differently; are copies of SuSE 8.x only allowed to be used at home or personally?? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

SuSE 8.1 -> 8.2 Problems

I just received my 8.2. I know, I was a little late getting it this time. I put the DVD in the drive, copied it to a file server on the network, booted off the CD and did a network upgrade. At the same time I received my SuSE 8.2, I also recevide the new Led Zeppelin live video DVDs. After I kicked off the SuSE upgrade, I put the first Zep DVD in the DVD player hooked up to my TV. Zep DVD is great! I came back, to the system where the upgrade was running, and logged in. I noticed a little green circle in the tool bar and moused over it, it said something about doing an online update, do I clicked it. Started the update, and went back to watch the rest of the DVD. DVD is really great. I still can't believe the talent those guys displayed back then. I came back to my system and rebooted after the update. I logged back in, and everything worked. SuSE ROCKS! Thanks for the reply, Ken. I've got the VMWare download, and a trial license, just gotta get into the docs and see what the procedure is for setting it all up. Mostly, do I reformat the hda and allocate DOS/fat32 partitions, let VMWare do it, how to install the Winapps via vmware, etc. Should be a hoot, looking forward to axeing Windoze...... The only Winapps apps that I have to use is Word 2000, and Project 2000. streaming audio on mlb.com

does anyone on the list listen to baseball via streaming audio on mlb.com? every year it's half way thru the sason before i can get it working on a linux box, though it works well on a windows machine. this year i am still stumped. a paid subscription is needed to listen to games but there are usually audio clips that can be heard gratis.

It reminds me of a number of events such as when IBM was part of a certain standards workgroup and IBM tried to assert copyrights over the standards the workgroup was working on. Another example: the GIF image format. After years of use of the GIF files format, its owner comes out to assert its rights, probably expecting that, given the wide use of this image format, it could extort a lot of money from unsuspecting users. There seems to be a pattern where a company waits for its product to become a "de facto" format of sorts and then comes out expecting to "just rake in the money", as it were. SCO might have tried to insert code into Linux to set the Linux community up for extortion.

Hello! I want to enable 32-bit i/o on my ide drives. Certanly, I successefully did this using hdparm. But where is right place in configuration files for doing this on boot? Thank you!
