How do I backup evolution 1.2.4?

I am going to take the plunge and try 1.4. Can I backup all my current folders and settings in such a way that if 1.4 acts badly (like it does at home) that I can restore 1.2.4? XD2 Screensaver

Running smoothly here, very nice desktop..But hard to say why its nice :). For those running XD2 (on SuSE 8.2) do you have an icon setting for the Screensaver under System, Personal Settings? I do not have that setting on two separate SuSE 8.2 machines. It can be launched via the terminal with this command: screensaver-properties-capplet But would be nice to have it on the GUI. Transferring links from KDE to Gnome2

I'd like play around with Gnome a bit, but I want to make sure my desktop links and menu items are available in Gnome. Is there any way to do this other than to set them up within Gnome? Help on Apache2 and PHP4 in SuSE Pro 8.2

Hi everybody! I'm trying to install Apache2 together with PHP4 and phpMyAdmin on my new SuSE Pro 8.2 server, but so far - no luck.. I use the standard installation options in Yast2 when I do a absolute fresh install on the computer and I've got the "Auto check dependencies" on. So, I thought all was well after marking up Apache2, PHP4 and phpMyAdmin and correlating modules as suggested by Yast2. But no... The server doesn't even understand that PHP4 is installed after what it seems to me, if I try to access a .php page, it insists on sending me the page as a download file instead of interpreting it and sending the output. Does anyone know the reason/solution to this, or is it a clear case of calling support? Later, Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

SUSE 8.2 can't set up recognized scanner

Greetings, I have installed SUSE 8.2 professional on an IBM T21 laptop. I have an UMAX Astra 610S scanner connected through ADAPTEC SCSI PCMCIA card. The card works, cdrecord -scanbus says: scsibus0: 0,3,0 3) removable JAZ disk 0,5,0 5) UMAX ASTRA 610 S scanner sane-find-scanner says: found SCSI scanner "UMAX Astra 610S V1.3" at /dev/sg1 that device, however, is accessible only to root, and there is also no link to /dev/scanner. The result is that neither Kooka nor the GIMP can see the device. I know how to fix things manually, ie making links, changing permissions, establishing groups, and so on. My actual questions are: why didn't SUSE fix all this by itself (Red Hat 9 on the same box did, I could scan as normal user from the GIMP right away) Is there a SUSE GUI based way to "install" the scanner for normal users? Something which I can recomend to nebies coming to Linux for the first time? Strange NFS - Kmail interraction

Hi All, Kmail shows some strange behaviour when I have my home directory mounted via nfs: I fire up Kmail, and d/load the mail queue (say 50 messages). After reading them they are all marked as read - just as you'd expect. Ten minutes later, Kmail autochecks for mail and some more (3 say) turn up. All of a sudden, it reports 53 unread mails - the ones I read before are now marked unread! Once the mails are marked read, compacting the folder makes the marking 'stick'. This does not happen when I am logged in at the machine where my home directory is local. That is - the machine in my office, which I use most of the time, holds my home directory and Kmail functions fine. It also exports my home directory, but when I log on to another machine I get the problem above. Kmail is storing mails as maildir format. The filesystem in exported with these options: rw,no_root_squash,sync,no_wdelay,no_all_squash I added the sync and no_wdelay in an attempt to solve the problem (thought it might be a timeout problem or somesuch) but they made no difference. It is imported with: defaults,_netdev,sync The permissions are all OK. Any suggestions welcomed..
