I had the same error 2 weeks ago. Seems it somehow installed the 7.3-Yast-updates onto my 7.2-machine. After installation I used yast2's online update, 10 hours later @ 56k the update is done, I can still print all seems well Until-------------- I try running yast2 so that I can check some packages on the dvd, I get a requestor stating; "There was an error while attempting to obtain a list of available modules. The list of displayed modules may be incomplete. Please make sure that YaST2 and YaST2 Control Center are installed properly" I've tried reinstalling all yast packages I can find from the dvd but still get this damn error. >Enter RANT mode I'm spending more and more time trying to get SuSE to work and less and less time actually using it. You can reinstall the base system by selecting the manual installation from the DVD and using Yast1. Then you can select to reinstall the original 2.4.10-4GB kernel in SuSE 7.3. All software packages should then be preserved. XF86 4.2 corrupt /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale

Has anybody else noticed an error when SuSEconfig trys to update the truetype fonts? I'm not looking at the exact message, but it says something about /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/fonts.scale being in an invalid format.

No KDM login, XDM login will not accept keyboard input.

I have finally gotten NVIDIA going with XFree86 4.2, but that killed the sound drivers. After updating, I can no longer get GUI login. If I try XDM as the login manager, I get the login screen but it does not accept keyboard input. I have to use cntrl +alt+bksp to get out. I can login with the console and startx with no problem. If I try KDM (Suse 7.3), it goes directly to the console command prompt for login. Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? /var/log/XFree86.0.log shows the last two lines "Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype, removing from list", otherwise, everything is OK in the file. can't get yast2 control center as root

well I decided to use blackbox and now I can't get yast2 control center to run as root. I can get it from the menu but its just user mode, if I type in su it won't let me open it and gives me this error: Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Client is not authorized to connect to Server y2controlcenter: cannot connect to X server :0.0 How to I fix this?

mantel kernel update

I am trying to update my system (7.3 -2.4.16 kernel) to the 2.4.17 mantel kernel , but when I try to install the supplied rpm I get a " unpacking of archive failed on file /lib/modules/2.4.17-4GB/kernel/net/ipv6/netfilter/ip6_queue.o: cpio read failed -Bad file descriptor" Is this due to a corrupted rpm/download error or do i need to use another command than rpm -Uhv Thanks in advance, Josef

Usa yast a secas en lugar de yast2. Allí no tendrás ese problema. Saludos, Martín. Asault on Exchange - the last refuge of the scoundral!

I've been toying around with trying to get my Linux system integrated with the MS Exchange server at work. I've been told fetchmail can do this, but I haven't been able to look into it. This seems to be the biggest obstacle to my integrating into our current setup. Have others successfully integrated their systems with MS Exchange without setting up a POP or IMAP service on Exchange?
