[SLE] Changing Network Cards

People, I'm having a bit of a problem with a boxes. I would like to upgrade its network card from 10mb to 100mb. .... i put in the new cards and boot up. The system boots fine but gives errors against the network card driver load as of course the card has changed ... i edit conf.modules so that the alias points at the new driver module and the line in rc.config which had the module name in as well (right at the top i think it has something to do with loading modules v. early in the boot sequence....) .... when i reboot it still fails to come up properly appearing to load the old module still....? huh? ystem is a basic Suse 6.3 install and the network cards in question are cheapo realtek 8139 chipset ones. Also after its booted i can do a modprobe rtl8139 and the module will load (and gives a message in /var/log/messages indicating its found the card) but still wont let me start networking up (/sbin/init.d/network start). Hi Can anyone give me a clue where I can find all supported network cards for SuSE? (www) Wat is a better choice, a PCI or ISA card. Wat is important if I buy a card? [SLE] Problem with two Network cards in System

Below is an excerpt from my /var/log/messages file... this goes on and on and on, with no end... I don't understand why. The system is a Compaq DeskPro 5133 - P133 - 48MB EDO - 2 x 10/100 D-Link 538TX network cards - 4Mbit ADSL with 5 Static IP's. I am using this machine with TWO IP's off the ADSL on the same machine ... the ADSL is plugged into a 10/100 Hub, and then the computer(s) into the hub. This computer uses two IP's, so it can have two seperate hostnames. This problem only started when I added the second network card on the second IP address.. and the eth0 card doesn't seem to complain at all.. only the eth1 card complains. I run a Nameserver on the machine, and thats the ONLY thing I can think of that could be cuasuing some sort of "double" network traffic that is colliding or something.. yet ifconfig show's no collisions.. just a whole lotta errors & overruns on the eth1 card. yet all data flowing in/out on the eth1 card seems to do so without problem. PLEASE HELP ... hehe.. it doesn't seem to be affecting my network useage at this time, but it is annoying to get a 6 meg messages file within a few days... and the problem should be fixed anyways. [SLE] HELP!!! Internal compiler error...

I ahve been working with SuSE Linux for about a year now. On this one machine that I installed the other night, and reinstalled tonight, I am getting a internal compiler error when compiling vim. The thing that is REALLY strange is that most of the time when I restart the compiler it is able to compile the file in question. It compiles a few more and then errors out again. I run make again, file compiles, few files later it dies again. [SLE] Do alsa drrivers work with kscd?

Hello Since I've installed linux for the first time, my cd doesn't play stereo (suing kscd), so I decided to install other sound drivers and stuff. I tried oss (but I don't pay a dimme for software) and then asla. I managed to install alsa and get my cd playing stereo with aslsaplayer (even though returns ALSA: underrun. resetting channel every 5 seconds and "jumps" when I do anything on the computer). However my kscd is mute. What do I need to get kscd working again? Thanks a lot. [SLE] scsi scanner problem

Hi List, After a couple of weeks of not being used I tried to scan some stuff in with my HP6250 scanjet today and got an failed to open device /dev/scanjet error with sane. XVscan also reports the same error. I have actually had that before and gotten rid of it by rebooting the machine. Right now I don't want to reboot as I have a lengthy calculation running which I don't want to interrupt. So, here is my question: shouldn't it be possible to probe the scanner and reset it as well as the SCSI connection? I have tried to power cycle the scanner which didn't improve the situation. Well, actually, the garbage that was reported back from /dev/scanjet by xvscan is now gone but it is still not accessible. Hi everyone, I was "browsing" over at the Dell site, and I was just wondering if anyone know how compatible the Dell Inspiron 3800 series (the one with the ESS Maestro 3i series sound card and 600MHz Intel Pentium III Speedstep CPU) is with Linux and ALSA? Mainly, I just was wonder how compatible that sound card is with OSS or perferably ALSA, and how well it's ATI 2x AGP 8MB RAGE MobilityM-1 3D video card would work with X 3.3.6 or 4.01? I have run netstat -a, to see which ports are listening in my box. I have found out that port 20000 is "LISTEN"... This the line: tcp 0 0 *.*:20000 *.* LISTEN What does it mean?? What port is 20000? what could be running there?? I have the same line about port 6000, which I think should be the X Server.
